At ISNS, we are grateful to have passionate and experienced teachers guiding our students forward. As we begin a new school year, we are so excited to welcome some wonderful teachers to our ISNS family this year! Let's introduce some of them to you now!






Yu Mee

6 years of experience teaching|Master of Education from the University Prince Edward Island| University of Calgary with a B.A. in Linguistics

Yu Mee is a Grade 1 teacher at ISNS. She was born in Malaysia and immigrated to Calgary, Canada at a young age. She graduated from the University of Calgary with a B.A. in Linguistics. Yu Mee’s first taste of teaching were two summer EFL contracts in Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu. From there, she went on to teach EFL at Maple Leaf International School in TEDA, Tianjin for three years. Afterwards, Yu Mee decided to pursue a Bachelor of Education through the University of Prince Edward Island. After receiving her Bachelor of Education, she worked as a kindergarten teacher for three years in the Northwest Territories in Canada. Yu Mee recently completed her Master of Education from the University Prince Edward Island.


Yu Mee believes in creating a diverse and inclusive learning environment which will help students become global citizens of tomorrow. 


Kai Mesman-Hallman

Kai is excited to be joining the EY team at ISNS this year as a K5 teacher. He is originally from San Diego, California and graduated from University of Arizona with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. Kai has a teaching license in Elementary Education and has experience teaching 1st grade and kindergarten.


Kai uses his background in psychology to inform his teaching, especially when it comes to creating a positive learning environment that gives students the connection and agency to thrive academically. Kai believes that consistency, patience, and understanding are key to creating a safe environment for students to learn and grow, and that through inquiry and exploration students can develop a lifelong love of learning.


In his free time Kai enjoys rock climbing, skateboarding, reading and spending time with his dog.


Andrea Badell

K5 Homeroom Teacher|30 years experience teaching kindergarten|Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education

Andrea is originally from Maracaibo, Venezuela. Andrea holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. She started working in Kindergarten as a Teacher Assistant, and then became a homeroom teacher in 2003. Andrea has been living in China for the past nine years. She taught all the Early Years grade levels at her previous school in Ningbo and served as the Vice-Principal of the Early Childhood Department since 2020.


As an educator, Andrea is committed to making young learners’ first experiences at school the most significant and enjoyable, as these will set positive expectations and instill in them a love for school and learning. She strives to connect with her colleagues, students and parents to build strong relationships with them. Andrea believes that this will result in great benefit for their academic achievement. She also believes that play is the natural way for children to explore and make sense of the world around them.


Andrea loves cooking, baking and having the opportunity to share food with friends and family. She enjoys dancing and swimming. As a new Shenzhener, she is looking forward to exploring what the city and its surrounding areas have to offer.



Susan Bivens

Grade 2 homeroom teacher|Master of Arts in Teaching at University of Portland| 16 years of teaching experience

Susan Bivens, a dedicated Grade 2 homeroom teacher as ISNS, hails from Alaska, USA. She earned her Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of Portland, Oregon, in 2007.  Susan began her career with Portland Public Schools, primarily serving high language acquisition needs.


In 2018, she embarked on her international teaching journey, moving to Beijing to work at a bilingual school pursing IB accreditation.  A strong proponent of inquiry-based learning, Susan believes in fostering curious and critical thinkers in today’s educational landscape.


In 2020, Susan moved to Thailand to teach at a school focused on Project-Based Learning. She was thrilled to move to Shenzhen, joining an established IB school to continue her teaching journey.


Beyond her career as an education, Susan is a loving mom to two students at ISNS and is excited for them to thrive in the IB setting.  Outside the classroom, she enjoys experimenting with recipes in her kitchen and exploring Shenzhen’s green spaces and trials with her family, as long as the trails are spider-free.


Thomas Bivens

UPYP Technology Integration Specialist| B.S. in Business Administration with a minor in Information Systems| 15 years as a technology and business leader

Thomas holds a B.S. in Business Administration with a minor in Information Systems from Lipscomb University, a top-ranked liberal arts business school in Nashville, USA.


Before transitioning into education, Thomas spent 15 years as a technology and business leader across the United States, providing expertise in software integration, strategic coaching, and systems training. His experience building and leading teams within technology companies provides a unique perspective within a school setting.


Five years ago, Thomas committed to education full-time. He is licensed to teach in the United States, holding a US Teaching License from Washington, D.C. He also earned a CELTA certification from Cambridge, United Kingdom. Thomas taught in Beijing prior to moving to Thailand where he taught computer literacy and block-based coding within PYP. Most recently, he served as a Grade 3 homeroom teacher at an International School in Bangkok.


At the core of Thomas’s teaching philosophy is a deep-rooted passion for curiosity and discovery. Within the context of the IB framework, he employs inquiry-driven learning to craft impactful experiences for his students. His teaching approach aims to cultivate essential life skills in his students, including critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration.


Originally from Albuquerque, USA, Thomas has a zest for life that extends beyond the classroom. He is a lover of spicy food, an avid student of world history, and a devoted soccer enthusiast. Thomas is also a proud parent; his daughter and son are both students at ISNS.


Mariel Rommeswinkel

K3 Homeroom Teacher| Bachelor’s degree in Chinese Language Arts|Seven years teaching young learners

Mariel is the homeroom teacher for K3. Her experience in Reggio Emilia, IB, IEYC and EYSF over the past seven years has equipped her with the tools to help young learners develop strong social, emotional and academic skills. Growing up with an American mother and German father in Hong Kong and Chinese mainland has gifted her the ability to speak fluent English, Mandarin, and Cantonese. Mariel completed her bachelor’s degree in Chinese Language Arts at Sun-Yet Sen University in Guangzhou, China.


She believes all students have limitless potential. She understands the best way to communicate with young students is through compassionate listening and respecting their thoughts and ideas. Her goal is to develop students’ emotional, intellectual, self-management and independent skills so that they are equipped to deal with any challenge they may face later in life.

Mariel enjoys being immersed in the Traditional Chinese Culture of Tea. She feels it is a great way to spend time with family and friends.


Laura Fernandes

PYP Art Teacher| Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education|7 years of experience in international schools

Laura was born and raised in Maracaibo, Venezuela. She later moved to Houston, USA where she attended college. Laura holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, and has 7 years of experience teaching various academic subjects in international schools.

Laura is a passionate teacher who aims to prepare her students for real-world challenges. She strives to create an environment where children are free to make mistakes, be inquisitive, share their cultures, and interests, and get messy. Laura is eager to continue learning alongside her students.

Laura is excited to join the ISNS community as well as exploring the Art scene in Shenzhen. She loves dancing, cooking, crocheting, swimming, and playing with her dog.


Gloria Huang

Grade 5 EAL Teacher|Master’s degree in TESOL at The Education University of Hongkong

Before joining ISNS, Gloria worked as a primary English teacher in a renowned educational institution, where she obtained her Celt-p certificate from Cambridge Assessment English. While working there, Gloria also developed an after-school curriculum and maintained teaching resources for primary students based on their needs and strengths. As a Summer Camp leader at Badminton School in Bristol, she collaborated with homeroom teachers and assisted Chinese learners to engage in an international curriculum.


Gloria earned her master’s degree in 2022 with distinction in the Education University of Hongkong, majoring in teaching English to speakers of other languages and was named to the Dean's Honour List. She is especially interested in gender disparities in early readers and English textbooks. Gloria also views herself as an enthusiastic English learner and a good communicator, and she believes she can inspire young students with her joy and passion. She appreciates how IB courses' inquiry-based learning approach empowers students to be the global citizens they want to be.


Caley Brown

Caley Brown has been living and working in China for around 8 years. Most of his time has been spent in Guangzhou but has moved to Shenzhen to work specifically for ISNS. Before becoming a teacher, he was a research student at Lancaster University, a top 20 school, studying science and science outreach. During his time at Lancaster, he helped set up an outreach program using Minecraft to help engage and motivate students in science.


Mr. Brown has been working in IB schools for 5 years and has now dedicated himself to continually seeking out opportunity to get as many IB certificates as possible. His current certificates include Making the PYP happen, Application of ATL skills and PYP exhibition. In the future he hopes to complete many more, and also seek out other personal development opportunities.

Yu Mee

Yu Mee出生于马来西亚,年幼时移民到加拿大卡尔加里。她毕业于卡尔加里大学,获得语言学学士学位。Yu Mee起初在江苏张家港教学英语。此后,在天津的国际学校教授英语三年。之后决定到爱德华王子岛大学攻读教育学士学位。获得教育学士学位后,她在加拿大西北地区担任了三年的幼儿园老师。最近完成了爱德华王子岛大学的教育硕士学位。


Yu Mee坚信创造一个多元化和包容性的学习环境将帮助学生成为未来的全球公民。


Kai Mesman-Hallman

Kai 很高兴今年能作为 K5 教师加入 ISNS 的幼儿园团队。他来自加利福尼亚州圣地亚哥,毕业于亚利桑那大学,获得心理学学士学位。Kai 持有小学教育教学执照,并有丰富的一年级和幼儿园教学经验。


Kai利用他的心理学背景来指导他的教学,特别是在创造一个积极的学习环境,为学生提供联系和能动性以促进学业发展方面。Kai相信一致性、耐心和理解是为学生创造一个安全的学习和成长环境的关键,通过探究和探索,学生可以培养对学习的终生热爱。


在空闲时间,Kai喜欢攀岩、滑板、阅读以及与他的狗共度时光。


Andrea Badell

Andrea来自委内瑞拉,持有幼儿教育学士学位。她起初在幼儿园担任助教,并于2003年成为一名班主任。在过去的九年里,她一直在中国生活。在宁波,她教授所有幼儿年级,并自 2020 年起担任幼儿部副校长。


作为一名教育家,Andrea致力于让年轻学习者在学校的第一次经历变得最有意义和最愉快,因为这将为他们树立积极的期望,并灌输对学校和学习的热爱。她努力与同事、学生和家长建立牢固的关系。Andrea相信这将对他们的学业成绩带来巨大的好处。她还认为,游戏是孩子们探索和理解周围世界的自然方式。


Andrea喜欢烹饪、烘焙并有机会与朋友和家人分享食物。她喜欢跳舞和游泳。作为新进深圳人,她期待着探索这座城市及其周边地区的魅力。



Susan Bivens

2018年,她开始了她的国际教学之旅,搬到北京,在一所追求IB认证的双语学校工作。Susan是探究式学习的坚定支持者,并支持在当今的教育环境中培养好奇和批判性的思考者。2020年,苏珊搬到泰国,在一所专注于项目式学习的学校任教。她很高兴来到深圳,加入一所成熟的IB学校继续她的教学之旅。


除了教育事业之外,Susan还是 ISNS 两名学生的慈爱母亲,并为他们在 IB 环境中茁壮成长感到兴奋。在课堂之外,她喜欢在厨房里尝试食谱,探索深圳的绿色空间,并与家人一起感受自然。


Thomas Bivens

Mariel Rommeswinkel

Mariel是K3的班主任。过去七年她接触了瑞吉欧方法、国际文凭、国际幼儿课程 和英国国家课程幼儿基础阶段,为她提供了帮助年轻学者培养强大的社交、情感和学术技能的工具。她的母亲是美国人,父亲是德国人,在香港和中国大陆长大,她能够说流利的英语、普通话和粤语。Mariel在广州中山大学获得了汉语言艺术学士学位。


她相信所有学生都有无限的潜力。她明白与年轻学生沟通的最佳方式是富有同情心地倾听并尊重他们的想法。她的目标是培养学生的情感、智力、自我管理和独立技能,使他们有能力应对以后生活中可能面临的任何挑战。

Mariel 喜欢沉浸在中国传统茶文化中。她觉得这是与家人和朋友共度时光的好方式。


Laura Fernandes

Laura是一位充满热情的老师,致力于让学生为应对现实世界的挑战做好准备。她努力创造一个让孩子们可以自由犯错、有好奇心、分享他们的文化和兴趣、并且可以释放天性的环境。Laura渴望继续与她的学生一起学习。


Laura很高兴加入ISNS社区并探索深圳的艺术场景。她喜欢跳舞、烹饪、钩编、游泳和和她的狗玩耍。



Gloria Huang

G5 EAL(英语作为附加语言)老师|香港教育大学TESOL专业硕士学位

在加入ISNS之前,Gloria曾在一所知名教育机构担任小学英语教师,并获得了剑桥英语评估中心的Celt-p证书。在那里工作期间,Gloria还根据小学生的需求和优势开发了课外课程并维护了教学资源。作为布里斯托羽毛球学校夏令营的负责人,她与班主任合作,帮助中国学习者参与国际课程。


Gloria于2022年以优异的成绩获得香港教育大学硕士学位,主修英语教学,并入选院长荣誉名单。她对早期读者和英语教科书中的性别差异特别感兴趣。Gloria还认为自己是一位热情的英语学习者和良好的沟通者,她相信自己可以用她的快乐和热情激励年轻学生。她很欣赏IB课程的探究式学习方法如何帮助学生成为他们想成为的全球公民。
