The parent-student-teacher conferences will be held on December 13th Wednesday. For families in nursery to Prek2, this will remain as a parent-teacher conference. At this meeting, you will have the chance to hear your children and their teachers discuss their academic progress, strengths and areas for improvement. 

Why are 3-way conferences important? They provide a deeper understanding of your child's educational journey. You can discover how your children learn best, their interests at school, and their goals. By attending the conference, you demonstrate your commitment to your children's education, and it allows you, the teachers, and your children to work together as a team to support their growth and success.

How can you prepare for the conferences?

• Prepare in advance: Review your child's reports and note any questions or concerns.

• Be open and engaged: Share your insights and listen attentively.

• Ask questions: Seek clarification on academic, social, or behavioral matters.

• Set goals: Collaborate on realistic goals for your child's development.

• Maintain communication: Stay in touch with teachers throughout the year.

• Be positive: Your support and positivity greatly impact your child's attitude towards learning.

Recently in PSPE (Physical, Social, and Personal Education) in the early years, the emphasis has been on being principled by following instructions and agreements for safe play. Teamwork has also been a huge focus. To apply these concepts, a parachute activity was used this week, and we all took advantage of the lovely weather by moving our PSPE lesson outdoors.

The children were introduced to brain break strategies to facilitate smooth and efficient transitions. These strategies included responding to commands with corresponding movements and imitating signals.

"Whole-brain teaching is an instructional approach that engages students through active participation, movement, and interaction, aiming to maximize learning outcomes and promote positive behavior."

Kindergarten students are thrilled to share an exciting update on their latest project: the Snowy Day Sound Story assembly, which they will be presenting in December. Over the past few weeks, they have been busy preparing for this special event, and we couldn't be more proud of their progress.

In this unique assembly, KG students will be using physical movements and scarves to bring their stories to life. By incorporating these elements, they have the opportunity to express their musical interpretations in a real and dynamic way. Each movement they choose to make conveys a specific aspect of their stories, adding depth and nuance to their musical creations.

This project beautifully connects with our recent unit "Where We Are in Place and Time" unit, allowing our students to explore the connection of music and storytelling. Through their sound stories, they not only engage with their creative abilities but also strengthen their understanding of how music can be a personal and meaningful form of communication.

This Sound Stories also align with our ongoing "How We Express Ourselves" unit, as our students actively participate in simple composition activities. By creating their sound stories, they have the opportunity to tell a story or convey a message through music. This reinforces the idea that music is not only a means of artistic expression but also a powerful form of communication that can touch hearts and minds.

The anticipation is building as the SIS Winter Concert approaches! We are thrilled to announce that this year's concert will be a truly special event, as it will feature students from both Primary and Secondary coming together to share the same stage. It promises to be a festive evening filled with enchanting melodies and outstanding performances by our talented musicians. We invite all of you to join us and experience the magic of this combined showcase of musical brilliance. Let's celebrate the spirit of the season together at the SIS Winter Concert!

Les Restos du Coeur is a famous French association that helps and supports the poor, particularly with food through access to free meals, and through participation in their social and economic integration, as well as in any action against poverty in all its forms.

At SIS, we believe in supporting each other and our action represents what the association is doing. Therefore, we created Les Restos de SIS. We would like to be able to donate money to the same association and we have invited special guests for our event.

The students in FIP and FAL, and SIS staff members will share songs in French to represent our action. You are welcome to watch the performances that will happen on Monday 11th December. However, there is a limited number of seats. Please sign up for us to save you a seat by scanning the code.

The performances will be as follow:

-KG to G2 will be from 9:00-9:45am (100 seats available)
-G3 to G5 will be from 10:15-11:00am (80 seats available)

We look forward to welcoming you at our singing concert. The QR code for making donations will be available at the theater. There will also be a donation box if you prefer to give cash.

A total of 12 Geckos represented SIS in Guangzhou on Saturday at the Greater Bay Area Regional Golf Tournament. A big congratulations to Kate L (G6) who was the overall individual champion in her age group with a score of 90. Congrats also to Andrew X (G6) who finished 2nd place in his age group shooting an 82. The SIS boys team of Andrew X (G6), Erick S (G7), Sean G (G6), & Alex Y (G3) completed the day in 2nd overall as a team. We are excited to see these athletes at the ACAMIS tournament coming up on March 12-14 hosted by SIS in Sanya!
