With almost 50,000 square metres of spacious outdoor area, where the grass is at your feet and the trees tower above you, BMH is a true embodiment of natural splendour.
This year, we have taken full advantage of this unique feature by constructing a magnificent treehouse in the forest. The idea originated from the imaginations of children and has now been brought to life for them to enjoy.
“If you want a treehouse”
At BMH, every child enjoys the expansive lawn where they finish their Forest lessons amidst the birdsong, engage in various activities while basking in warm gusts of breeze, and relish the wonder of nature.
The construction of the treehouse was motivated by the children's enthusiasm for the lawn. The teachers at the Pre School launched a project-based learning endeavour led by the students.
The children are well aware of the lawn's size, terrain, and available resources from their daily lesson. With regards to local conditions, they have countless ideas for possible facilities and equipment that could be constructed on the lawn. Additionally, they are full of creativity when it comes to interesting play items that can be incorporated.
In the image above, you can see the creative thoughts from children, such as the zip line gliding, the thrilling mud battle, the waterway battle, the clay kiln mud pit, and the interactive installation for capturing photos, ect.
Each child has the potential to be a creative builder and provide us with fresh inspiration.
After several brainstorming sessions, it was time to bring the project down to the earth. Despite a lack of professional modelling or drawing skills, the children utilized a range of materials in their art class to create a tangible representation of their vision.
If you were present at last year's BMH Pre school Art Exhibition, then you definitely remember the - three-dimensional drawings of the creation of the Great Lawn, diverse and vivid, brimming with childlike purity and limitless creativity.
During the summer holidays, we completed the designing and building process of the observation deck, climbing frame, ropeway, suspension bridge... These imaginative creations originated from a tree and slowly evolved into reality, fulfilling the children's dream bit by bit.
From inception to utilization, constructing the treehouse took almost two years. Throughout this timeline, the children remained engaged every step of the way, playing an active role in the project.
“After completing the treehouse”
On 27th November, we inaugurated the treehouse at the end of the Let's Celebrate inquiry unit in K3. The Head of Pre School, parents and children were present to celebrate the official completion of this significant project.
The construction of the treehouse is complete, marking the start of an exciting new chapter. This structure, a fusion of imagination, is poised to offer many advantages to BMH students. Be it a froest lesson or an investigative class, a student engagement or a parent gathering, the treehouse presents endless opportunities for creating precious memories.
Since the start of the new academic year, we have conducted numerous BMH community gatherings in the Treehouse, which serves as a dependable haven amidst the trees for us to anchor our emotions. We are pleased to announce that the Treehouse is now accessible to all BMH families, and we extend a warm invitation for you to reserve its usage through the school and relish the force of nature with your child.
Apart from the treehouse, additional projects envisioned by the children are currently being realized, including the newly constructed Mud Kitchen, where the children have had the opportunity to prepare a banquet. We eagerly anticipate further pleasant surprises!
