In G2 CAL class, students are exploring the concepts of home and family through listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Students are expressing their unique perspectives about their beloved family. They also extended the the concept into the knowledge of Chinese Hanzi, which construct a remarkable representation of a special Hanzi family. In the class, students are doing diverse activities to help them build deep understanding of family, especially they are making a family power book with differentiation, such as sharing some information about their home, writing about family members, looking for Hanzi that are belonging to the same family, etc. The students not only shaped their identities of family, but also built the responsibilities of their role in the family.
Grade 5 Language A learners inquired into the interdependence of living things within an environment with a focus on informational reading and writing during the last unit. They were able to apply non-fiction text features in their informational writing after taking notes from research. They were excited to introduce their favorite topic with details and publish their writing through Author’s Chair, Display Board and other activities.
In the 3CBP Mandarin class, we integrated the text "Seaside Town" with the inquiry unit "Who We Are" to understand who we are, where our hometown is, and a series of customs, culture, and traditions related to our hometown. The students took turns sharing the unique cuisine, famous landmarks, traditional festivals, and customs of their hometowns in the class. Through the study of the text and sharing, the children were able to make text-to-life connection to improve a comprehensive understanding.
