Our Grade 2 Poetry Cafe was a true crescendo of literary brilliance!
Throughout our Writing unit, we immersed ourselves in the poetic world, exploring a tapestry of styles including haiku, free verse, acrostic, rebus, and shape poems. Using the tools of repetition, simile, rhyming, alliteration, five senses, and clever line breaks, our students embarked on a poetic journey, expressing themselves in unique and captivating ways.
The creative process was a symphony of exploration as students wielded these poetic tools to craft their verses. After the initial poetic outpour, our budding wordsmiths delved into the realms of revision, editing, and the eventual publication of numerous English poems.
In Mandarin class, our students added another layer to their creative repertoire by penning Mandarin poems, expanding their linguistic horizons. Some students bravely ventured into the realm of their home languages, adding an extra layer of cultural richness to our poetic tapestry.
Our students honed their presentation skills, fine-tuning pitch, tone, and rhythm for a performance that would truly resonate. Finally, on Friday, the culmination of our efforts unfolded as families gathered to partake in the beauty of our students' poetic expressions.
