有人说:阅读是同伟人的对话;

阅读是同另一个自己的对话;

La Fontaine

Roald Dahl

Rat burger

by David Williams

This Chinese New Year I read a lot of books, but the best book I like is called Rat Burger by a British author David Williams, it is so funny and wonderful! It is also kind of sad. This book is about a girl called Zoe and she is very poor since her dad lost his job, she has a pet rat and a person called Burt wants to kill her pet rat. Also her dad gave up on finding a job at the end. Finally her dad found a job with her courage. This story is about dream and never give up.

Harry Potter   by J.K Rowling

When I read it, I can imagine that intense scene in the book, and the content in it is also wonderful, many sentences and words were using beautifully, which make the story more vivid.

I learned many things in the book, some of them are about Harrow value like teamwork and courage. The most important one, is friendship. I hope in our life we can have more courage to face challenges like Harry Potter!

The Christmas Pig

作者:J.K Rowling

Some people say that reading is a conversation with a great man or woman. Others say that reading enhances self-cultivation. We are often thinking about all the benefits of reading. But sometimes ignore the smile and the quiet look of a child when he or she is engrossed in a book.

Before this winter break, the students collected books at the library that were appropriate for their reading level to take home and assigned reading tasks for themselves.

Victor Hugo said, “To learn to read is to light a fire; every syllable that is spelled out is a spark.”

At the beginning of the new term , we have been receiving insights from our Library Leaders after their reading. These 'sparks' from the books will be reflected in our students' writing, speaking and even bilingual reading skills now and also in the future.

You'll be just as amazed as we are at their imagination as they describe the world of books with their own words!

The Legend of Leo Messi

by Zhang Jiawei

The book starts with Messi as a child and tells the story of his growth into becoming the ‘King of Football’ for his generation. Messi experienced a lot of ups and downs along the way, but he eventually achieved success. The whole book is very detailed and I learned once again that becoming the ‘King of Football’ is not only about becoming great, but also about carrying a lot on your back. There are many players, but to become a player like Messi, it takes not only talent and hard work, but also a lot of dedication and perseverance. It also made me realise that to become great or outstanding at something, apart from hard work, more importantly, you need to keep persevering, giving and loving, only then can you succeed!

Memories of Peking:

South Side Stories

by Lin Haiyin

This holiday I reread Memories of Peking: South Side Stories, a book I had read a few years ago. But after reading it again now, I gradually felt that our childhood is like that of Yingzi, the main character in the book. Whether it was the girl who found her mother, or the thief, or the death of her father, the end was already predetermined in those chaotic times. Yingzi's childhood is over, but our childhood is not. We should cherish everything around us and always remember in our hearts the memories that belong to us.

La Fontaine’s Fable

by La Fontaine

This book is one of the top three fables in the world. The author depicts various human thoughts and behaviours in the form of fables, vividly reflecting the social life of France in the 17th century.

The stories are lively and interesting, and the length of the book is appropriate, making it easy for me to read a story and get inspired about life and learn some writing skills.

The Queen of Wolves

by Shen Shixi

I read an animal novel called The Queen of Wolves during the holiday and it was one of my favourite books of all time.

The author uses the world view of animals to look at humans, telling us to take responsibility for our choices and to be brave no matter what difficulties we encounter!

Fantastic Mr. Fox

 by Roald Dahl

During my winter break I read Fantastic Mr. Fox, what I liked about this book is that a fox father went to a farm to steal food so that his children would not go hungry, but while stealing he got his tail broken by the farmer with a gun. Stealing is wrong, but I could feel the love of the father for his child in the book. This book gives us a glimpse of the complexities of human nature in a simple fairy tale.

Learning Song Poems with Comics

by Chen Lei

This book tells the story of the Song poems and the poets through humorous comics. It made me very interested in Song poems and I enjoyed learning about ancient poetry in this way!

The book tells a lot of poems and stories of the great writers of the Song Dynasty, such as Su Shi, who encountered so many hardships and changes in his life, but was never defeated. Instead, he wrote so many classic works. His spirit is especially worth learning from!

Rat burger  作者:David Williams

J.K Rowling

The Christmas Pig

by J.K Rowling

It tells the story of a young child with a vivid imagination, whose toy piglets come to life on Christmas Eve night, and together they travel into his mind to start a thrilling adventure in search of his little friend. The descriptions in the book are so vivid and detailed that I felt like I was on an adventure with the Christmas Pig. It was particularly fun to read and I've read it no less than five times!

I think we should be as bold as the main character in the book, because our imagination is endless and wonderful.

China in the Museums

by Song Xinchao

During this winter break, I read the book named China in the Museums. From this book I learned about the hardships of the Red Army soldiers and the history of various old collections. The titles of each chapter in this book are fascinating, such as Deciphering the Code and Fossil Code. I learnt a lot of concepts that I didn't know about in this book and it was like visiting a museum myself.

A book only shows a certain view, but when we widely read different types of books, we can explore unknown worlds you never reached while reading.

Just like the photos you take when you travel, you can write about your reading afterwards, just like the Library Leaders did.

There is a limit to what we can experience.

Reading goes some way towards filling this gap. We can read the life experiences and insights of authors to develop our own patterns and overcome human shortcomings and prejudices. Reading allows us to place ourselves in a diverse cultural context, both ancient and modern. This is extremely important for students at Harrow Haikou, which is a multicultural and multilingual campus environment. We are committed to integrating reading into our campus life, giving students a cross-cultural advantage, whether they pursue their future studies at home or overseas.
