ISA Inquiry Learning 爱莎探究式教学 | 探索世界,成长成才

Inquiry learning is an important part of the IB programme, which emphasises students’ initiative and innovation and encourages them to think deeply about what they have learnt, with the aim to develop global citizens who have an international outlook and leadership skills and are capable of solving complex problems. The Unit of Inquiry under IB system is based on the “Six Transdisciplinary Themes” which transcend the traditional disciplinary boundaries, and integrate language, mathematics, science, social studies, arts, personal studies, social and physical education. The Unit of Inquiry takes the world as the textbook, questions as the introduction, concepts as the driving force, and inquiry as the main teaching and learning approach. It expands children's visions and stimulates their interests in exploring the world.

Based on the vision of Inquire·Succeed·Act, ISA delivers the IB programme and attaches great importance to inquiry learning. These inquiry-based learning experiences are planned by the ISA teachers to develop students' research, thinking, communication, social and self-management skills through hands-on activities that broaden their horizons and mindsets, improve their inclusiveness and understanding of different cultures, environments, and perspectives. ISA's inquiry-based teaching takes place not only in the classroom, but also outside the classroom, where students and teachers explore the world through immersive experiences, gain direct knowledge of the world through interactive activities, and develop IB learner profile attributes.

Scientific Practice 科技实践


Science and technology are important tools for human beings to understand and change the world. They help us understand the laws and phenomena of nature, explore the mysteries of the universe, and solve the various problems faced by human beings. To cultivate well-rounded global citizens, ISA is passionate about extending students' scientific and technological knowledge. Since practice is an important way to learn science and technology, ISA's inquiry-based scientific practice combines classroom theory with real-life applications and integrates the difficult and obscure concepts of science with concrete objects, which not only deepen students' understanding of science, but also cultivate their enthusiasm for scientific inquiry. This enthusiasm not only helps students improve their academic performance, but also strengthens their determination to explore the unknown.

科学技术是人类认知世界和改变世界的重要工具,它帮助我们理解自然界的规律和现象,探索宇宙的奥秘,解决人类面临的各种问题。为培育全面发展的世界公民,爱莎十分注重学生科技知识的教育,而实践是学习科技的重要途径,爱莎探究式科学实践活动通过将课堂理论与现实生活应用相结合,将艰深晦涩的科学概念融入具体可感的实物之中,不仅加深了学生对科学的理解,也培养了他们对科学探究的热情。这种热情不仅有助于学生提升学术成绩,也有助于增强他们探索未知的决心。





Y4 students from ISA Tianhe explored the properties and variations of different materials as part of their Unit of Inquiry —"How the World Works". Using the Harry Potter story as a backdrop for their investigations, they acted as Harry Potter's Quidditch Materials Committee, searching for the most suitable materials for the tournament's food and objects, and drawing conclusions through predictions, fair tests, actual investigations, and data statistics.

爱莎天河四年级的学生在探究单元学习——“世界是如何运作的“的主题下,探究不同材料的特性和变化。他们以哈利·波特的故事为背景展开探究,扮演哈利波特中的“魁地奇”材料委员会,为赛事的食品和物品寻找最适合的材料,通过预测分析、操作实验、实际调查、数据统计等得出最终结论。




At the aviation training base, Y4 and some Y5 students from ISA Tianhe were able to deepen their insights about aviation and airplanes through in-depth aviation-themed visits, project experiences, curriculum learning and communication.

在航空培训基地,爱莎天河小学部的学生们通过深度的航空主题参观、项目体验、课程学习和交流,加深了自己他们对航空的认识和见解。





The secondary school students from ISA Wuhan applied their scientific knowledge to a real-life situation. In a simulated "Crime Scene Investigation" activity, students used their forensic science knowledge to solve the murder of Mr. Ross by comparing fingerprints, analysing bloodstains, identifying handwriting, chromatography, and analysing hair, etc. In the process, they developed their skills in the integrated science disciplines of biology, chemistry, physics, and forensic science, and improved abilities of critical thinking, teamwork, and creativity.

武汉爱莎学校中学部的学生们将所学的科学知识应用于现实情境。在模拟“犯罪现场调查”的活动中,学生使用所学习的法医科学知识来破解罗斯先生的“谋杀案”,进行了指纹对比、血迹分析、笔迹鉴定、色谱分析法、毛发分析等实践活动,在这个过程中学习了生物学、化学、物理学和法医学的综合科学学科的知识,发展了批判性思维能力,提高了团队合作能力和创造力。

In the Unit of Inquiry "How the World Works", EY2 students from ISA Science City visited the Guangzhou Science Museum to enjoy scientific works and demonstrations. They participated in scientific interactions and hands-on activities to gain a deeper understanding of various scientific concepts. Their desire to explore and their curiosity about the world around them was further ignited through the process.

在“世界是如何运行”主题单元探究过程中,爱莎科学城小班的学生前往广州科学馆,欣赏科学作品和演示、参与科学互动并动手操作,深入理解各种科学概念,他们探索的欲望以及对周围世界的好奇心在过程中得到进一步激发。



ISA Science City's G3 students visited a Virtual Reality (VR) Center for a memorable field trip related to their Unit of Inquiry, where they explored how innovations in communication technology are changing society, learned about the future of communication through interactive experiences, and learned how technology is bringing people together and transforming our society. These fun-filled explorations further ignited their interest in the ever-changing world of communication technology.

爱莎科学城三年级的学生进行了一次与他们的探究单元主题有关的“玩中学”之旅,他们在VR中心探索通信技术的创新如何改变社会,通过互动体验了解了未来的通讯方式,以及学习技术如何使人类紧密联系在一起并改变我们的社会,充满欢乐的探究活动更进一步激发了他们对瞬息万变的通信技术世界的兴趣。




With a passion for physical science, the G7 students from ISA Science City took a journey of physical inquiry at the Chimelong Paradise. They designed and conducted their own experiments focused on speed, distance, and time calculations through many attractions such as jumping machines. Guided by their knowledgeable teachers, they skillfully identified the correct variables and crafted scientifically sound experiments. Their critical thinking and problem-solving skills were improved through the process.

爱莎科学城七年级的同学们带着对物理科学研究的热情,在长隆欢乐世界开展了一场物理探究之旅。通过跳楼机等机动项目,学生进行了速度、距离和时间等计算的实验。在经验丰富的老师的指导下,他们熟练地掌握了正确的变量,并精心设计出科学合理的实验步骤,他们的批判性思维和解决问题的能力也在这个过程中得到了锻炼。


Connect with Nature 亲近自然


Nature is the foundation of our existence and an indispensable resource. ISA organises a series of inquiry activities for students to get close to nature, understand its laws and phenomena, recognise its beauty and complexity, and at the same time understand the impact of human activities on nature. Through observation and personal experience of the mysteries and wonders of the natural world, students raise their awareness of nature and the need to protect it. Through outdoor exploration activities, students gain direct experience of nature. By combining indirect experience from books with their own direct experience, they learn to recognise the importance of harmony between human beings and nature, and their sense of social responsibility is improved.

大自然是我们生存的基础,也是我们不可或缺的资源。爱莎组织学生进行一系列的探究活动让学生得以近距离接触自然,了解自然的规律和现象,认识到自然的美丽和复杂性,同时也了解到人类活动对自然的影响。学生通过观察、亲身体验自然界的奥秘和美妙,提高对自然的关注和保护意识。通过户外探究活动,学生在现场获得对自然的直接认知,书本上的间接经验与自己的直接经验相结合,更加深刻地认识到人与自然和谐相处的重要性,社会责任感逐步增强。





ISA Tianhe utilises the unique natural conditions of Redtory to provide children with rich outdoor learning opportunities. Led by their teachers, students regularly conduct themed outdoor inquiry learning activities. They get close to nature by searching for miniature insects, sketching outdoors, and observing plants.

爱莎天河学校利用红专厂得天独厚的自然条件为孩子们提供丰富的户外学习机会。在老师的带领下,学生们定期开展主题户外探究学习活动,通过寻找迷你昆虫、户外写生、观察植物来亲近自然,在大自然中去发现,去创造。


ISA Tianhe EY4 students and some parent volunteers went to visit the Birds Park to observe and learn about different animals and their habitats. This knowledge of nature gained through hands-on experience is not only vibrant and interesting, but also leaves a deep impression in their minds.

爱莎天河幼儿园大班的学生与部分家长志愿者们前往前往飞鸟乐园参观,在不同的鸟类园区中直观地观察和学习不同动物及其栖息地,这些自然知识通过亲身体验的方式获得,不仅鲜活有趣,而且会在他们的脑海中留下深刻的印象。


ISA Science City EY3 students embarked on an exciting adventure to explore the Guangzhou Botanical Garden. This field trip perfectly complemented their Unit of Inquiry——"How the World Works". Immersed in this captivating experience, our young explorers had the wonderful opportunity to witness the breath-taking beauty of nature up close.

爱莎科学城中班的学生在华南植物园进行了“世界如何运作”为主题的探究学习,学生置身于葱郁优美的环境中对自然进行探索,他们纷纷化身“小植物学家”,近距离观察了大自然令人惊叹的魅力。



G1 students from ISA Science City had an exciting learning and exploring trip to the bamboo forest. Teachers explained the wide variety of plants and insects along the way, inspiring students' curiosity about the natural world. In addition, students learned about specialised crafts such as bamboo basket making from local community members, tasted traditional bamboo rice cooked over wood fires, and planted bamboo in the forest. A series of close encounters with bamboo provided students with a deep and lasting appreciation for nature.

而爱莎科学城一年级的学生们则在竹林开展了一场激动人心的竹林学习与探险之旅。老师沿路讲解各种各样的植物和昆虫,激发了学生对自然世界的好奇心。此外,学生还向当地社区成员学习竹篮制作等专业工艺知识,品尝了传统的由柴火烧煮的竹筒饭,并在森林中种植竹子,一系列与竹子的亲密接触让学生对自然的认知深刻而持久。

At the “Warm House Pet Adoption Center”, ISA Science City's G5 students were led by volunteers to learn about the habits and status of stray animals and how to take care of them. The close contact with the animals inspired the students to show their love for other creatures in the natural world. They further understand the empathy and sense of responsibility one should have when interacting with nature.

在温暖之家动物领养中心安置基地,爱莎科学城五年级的学生在义工的带领下,了解了流浪动物的生活习性和现状,以及如何负责任地照顾它们。近距离与动物的接触,激发了学生对自然世界中其他生物的爱心,明白了人身处自然之中应该葆有的同理心与责任感。



Environmental Protection 环境保护


Protecting the environment is a universal responsibility of human beings. ISA hopes that students can learn about environmental protection through inquiry activities, and more importantly, they can understand the importance of environmental protection in the process. In the inquiry activities, students witness the harm of environmental pollution, acquire environmental knowledge and skills through exploration and reflection, form environmentally-friendly thinking and values, and pass on these ideas to people around them, thus forming a favourable eco-friendly atmosphere.

保护环境是人类共同的责任。爱莎希望学生能够在探究活动中学习环保知识,更希望他们能在这个过程中了解到环境保护的重要性,逐步培养他们的环保意识和责任感。在探究活动中,学生亲眼见证环境污染的危害,通过探索与思考习得环保知识和技能,形成环保思维和价值观,并将这些理念传递给周围的人,从而形成一个良好的环保氛围。




Primary school students from ISA Science City went to the South China Sea Institute of Oceanology and learned about the causes and effects of ocean pollution and explored ways in which individuals can take action to reduce pollution.

爱莎科学城小学部的同学们在南中国海海洋学研究所,学生们了解了海洋污染的原因和影响,探索了个人可以采取怎样的行动来减少污染的方法。



ISA Science City G11 Environmental Systems & Societies (ESS) students conducted their first fieldwork activities at Huolushan Forest Park, investigating the patterns in biodiversity at different elevations of the mountain. The nature of the ESS course trains students in practical investigation techniques that can be used to better understand the ecosystems around us. ‘Human impacts on the environment’ is a core theme of this course - students considered how tourist activity near the mountain complicates the natural patterns in biodiversity.

十一年级环境系统与社会(ESS)的学生在火炉山森林公园进行了实地考察活动,对山地不同海拔地区的生物多样性进行调研。ESS课程的性质是对学生进行实际调查技术的培训,可以帮助他们更好地了解周围的生态系统。人类对环境的影响是这门课程的核心主题,学生们深入研究了山体周围游客活动对生物多样性自然模式的影响。



ISA Tianhe Y3 students had a very interesting time at the Energy Conversion Centre looking at the clean energy sources Guangzhou uses. The staff there explained the pros and cons of each energy source, deepening students' understanding of energy.

爱莎天河三年级的学生通过参观能源研究所,了解了广州现在所使用的清洁能源供应体系。研究所的工作人员详细地和学生讲解每种能源的优缺点,加深了学生对能源以及清洁能源使用的理解。



Art Experience 艺术体验


Art is an important part of culture and spiritual life. It is an important means for human beings to express their emotions and thoughts. ISA's experiential inquiry activities in art allow students to appreciate art, feel the charm of art, and experience the process of creating art. In the process, students' artistic thinking and creativity are enlightened, and they come to better understand and feel the world.

艺术是人类文化和精神生活的重要组成部分,是人类表达情感和思想的重要手段。爱莎的艺术体验式探究活动让学生接受艺术的熏陶,身临其境感受艺术的魅力,亲身体验艺术的诞生过程。在这个过程中,启迪了学生的艺术思维和创造力,帮助他们更好地理解和感受世界。




ISA Science City’s G11 students went to the New Innovation Center of Guangdong Art Museum to learn how exhibitions are curated. In the process, students took notes on how artworks were presented and where the exhibition text and the curatorial rationale were displayed. This information was essential for students to start understanding how they can curate their own exhibition in G12.

爱莎科学城十一年级的学生参观了广东艺术剧院文创中心了解并学习一场展览是如何进行策划的,过程中,学生们记录了艺术作品的展览方式,以及展览文本和策展描述等的展示位置,以更好地为12年级的艺术展做筹备。



G11 students from ISA Science City also visited a fashion design workshop. They learnt from a professional fashion designer the history and background of some Chinese fashion design techniques, and how a gamer is designed and what are the different steps in its production. They also had the opportunity to use some tools such as the sewing machine.

十一年级的艺术学生还参观了时装设计工作室,学生通过专业的服装设计师系统学习了部分中国服装设计技术的历史和背景,以及纹路如何设计、生产的步骤又有什么不同。学生也获得了亲自动手体验缝纫机的机会。



15 delegates from G7-G8 of ISA Science City performed with ensemble leaders from around the world and students from across China at the International Schools Theatre Association (ISTA) Middle School Drama Festival. ISASC students created Tides of Change, a remarkable theatre piece, devised by the students over 3 days of intensive workshops. The piece featured puppetry, mask-work, dance, narrative storytelling and displayed ISA students marvellous abilities.

爱莎科学城7-8年级的15名代表学生在国际学校戏剧协会(ISTA)中学戏剧节中与来自世界各地的剧团领导者以及来自中国各地的学生同台公演,表演了经过三天紧张筹备的以木偶戏、面具戏、舞蹈和叙事故事为特色的原创作品《变革之潮》,展示了他们卓越的表现力。




In addition to scientific practice, connecting with nature, environmental protection, and art experience, ISA also organises urban observation activities, leading students to observe urban transportation up close, learn about the operation of the city, understand the conceptual knowledge of urban transportation in the field, and understand how the "system" creates and regulates the order of the city. Students are also led to make delicious food. Their hands-on skills are improved, and they learn about the theory of food preparation, and understand the truth that every grain is hard to get.

除了科技实践,亲近自然,环境保护和艺术体验类的探究式教学活动外,爱莎还组织城市观察的活动,带领学生近距离观察城市的交通,了解城市的运行,对城市交通这一概念性知识进行实地的学习与理解,了解“系统”是如何创造并规范城市秩序的。也带领学生们亲自动手制作美味的食物,培养动手能力,学习食物制作的理论知识,通过亲手实践明白粒粒皆辛苦的道理。


ISA sticks to its vision of Inquire·Succeed·Act and provides a balanced education system to students, which helps to foster IB learner profile attributes. These rich and varied inquiry-based activities give students the opportunity to explore the unknown and expose them to learning experiences and social skills that are not available to them on campus. Through these inquiries, students' critical thinking and problem-solving skills are further enhanced, their interest in learning and their desire to explore are stimulated, and they gradually find what they love. In the future, ISA will continue to lead students in inquiry-based learning, enable students to acquire knowledge through fun experiences, and help them grow and become successful.
