HSBC Financial Course

How important is INVESTMENT in your life? If you plan ahead and make a reasonable arrangement with your assets, life could be far more promising when you retire.

The ASJ (Dongguan) economics students began a specialised course, tailor made in collaboration with the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited (HSBC). Upon their completion, students will be awarded a certificate issued by the HSBC Headquarters in Shanghai.

本次东莞 ASJ与汇丰银行进行合作，为我们选修DSE课程经济科的学生们带来了三堂专业课程，完成课程的学生将获得由上海汇丰银行总部颁发的证书。

At the start of the financial course, students were introduced to the following idea to help them understand the concept of investment: 

“The absence of investment education at school has long been criticized in society. Many people can be successful in their careers but fail in managing their financial issues and life could be miserable in their lifetime.”

Students were posed with the question, 

“Do you want to double your saving and how many years can you achieve it by investing your money wisely?” 

Students uncovered the following answer: 7 years if you can earn an annual rate of 10% compounding your investment each year.

在第一节课程上，学生就被引入了以下概念来理解何为投资：

“长期以来，许多学校由于缺乏投资教育而备受社会诟病。许多人本可以在事业上获得成功，却因无法管理好自己的财务问题而使人生陷入困境。”

学生们也被要求思考这样的问题：

“你想让你的储蓄翻倍吗？如果你足够明智地投资你的钱，你需要多少年来实现这一目标？”

学生们在学习课程后得到了答案：7年，前提是投资每年能获得10%的复利。

The second lesson tasked students to work in groups to make a 30-year investment decision by analysing the economic conditions over the time period. Students learned that putting their investment into one basket can be risky but diversifying their investment is the key to minimising their risk. 

第二节课上汇丰银行讲师要求学生以小组为单位，通过分析近几十年间的经济状况，做出30年后的投资决策。通过这场“投资游戏”，学生们了解到将“鸡蛋”放在一个篮子里是有风险的，而分散投资则是将风险降至最低的关键。

The last day of the course saw students taking the lead by sharing their learning. Parents were invited to participate to discover what their children have gained through this financial course. 

课程最后一课则是由学生主导分享，家长们也被邀请参加这个分享会，了解他们的孩子在这个金融课程中的收获。

Through this course, students learned that the economy can be impacted by various factors including government policies, new technology, money supply, GDP and economic cycle. 

This course has helped to better prepare students for an upcoming subtopic within the DSE economics subject – Macroeconomics. 

通过这一系列课程，学生们了解到经济可能受到政府政策、新的技术、货币供应量、国内生产总值和经济周期等的影响。

除了让学生们学到一些有用的投资知识，本课程的另一个更重要的目的是让学生为即将到来的DSE经济学科目——宏观经济学做更好的准备。
