2023年10月末,在海外高校早申请刚刚拉开帷幕的这一刻,达罗捷派学子Alvin Yu 收到了来自Minerva University密涅瓦大学的录取offer。

Minerva University是怎样神奇的存在?




密涅瓦大学Minerva Schools at KGI,或者简称Minerva Schools,KGI指的是TheKeck Graduate Institute(美国加州的一所私立研究生院)。密涅瓦大学,是The MinervaProject(密涅瓦计划)与KGI的合作项目。






Minerva密涅瓦,智慧女神、战神、艺术家和手工艺人的保护神,加利福尼亚州州徽中的女神即是弥涅耳瓦。雅典娜是希腊奥林帕斯十二主神之一, 是希腊神话中的智慧女神,对应罗马神话的密涅瓦。





2013年创办的密涅瓦大学,目前拥有来自80个国家的600多位学生。创校团队汇聚了众多教育界领袖,包括前哈佛校长、前哈佛社科院长、前沃顿院长、前新学院校长等,现任学术校长钱德勒为美国国家科委(NSB)成员、科学院院士。这些闪着光芒的教育家一起创造了密涅瓦大学。

一位来自密涅瓦大学的校友Pablo Guarneros总结的非常好:

首先,密涅瓦不接受任何标化成绩,包括托福或SAT,它有自己独立的申请系统。这不是一个富人的游戏,你没有机会一次又一次地考试刷高分,或者高价请私人家教,或者让中介帮你撰写大学申请材料;

“大学期间你打算做什么?”

“没想好。”

这是Alvin和几个海外大学毕业回来的朋友聚会时的对话,那时正处于迷茫期的他,字里行间皆是对于未来的困惑。


一直以来,他都认为大学是一个能够帮他找到或提前准备未来事业的跳板。在高中还没毕业时,他决定申请Gap Year(间隔年),继续跟进他在JPED求学时开启的第一个创业项目。

2020年,Alvin开始了自己的创业之旅。

这两年的时间里,他多次和两位校长讨论创新创业、修改商业计划书、讨论产品功能等细节;与市场营销课程教师沟通新媒体推广策略,转战北京、珠海等地拍摄产品诞生日记;他与共同创业的伙伴一起奔赴各地谈合作、跑工厂、推进量产等。

因为希望自己有一天能创造出一样可以影响人们生活的产品,可以满足一些尚未被满足的需求,改变可以被改变的事情。Alvin决定从日常生活出发,于是,他带领团队创造了悠看Uocan,—款不用电的智能垃圾桶,解决人们日常处理垃圾的痛点。

在推进Uocan项目的期间,Alvin继续参与创办了格物电动科技,主要研发生产电动越野摩托、滑板车等一系列运动型新能源交通工具。

这两年,学习、工作是生活的主旋律,他充分利用Gap year的时间来打磨产品,在JPED教职团队的帮助与陪伴下,为实现最初的梦想努力前行。

今年4月Uocan从57个国家中和近11000件参赛作品中脱颖而出获得了2022年德国iF设计奖。

iF 设计奖以"独立、严谨、可靠"的评奖理念闻名于世,旨在提升大众对于设计的认知,其最具分量的金奖素有"产品设计界的奥斯卡奖"之称。iF设计新秀奖旨在表彰令人振奋的、有远见的想法和概念,作品题材及内容符合以下联合国可持续发展目标(SDGs)。






再次恭喜Alvin荣获佳绩!期待他在追逐梦想的路上不断前行,达罗捷派永远是他最坚实的支柱。

What is it about Minerva University that is so amazing?


Minerva Schools at KGI, KGI refers to The Keck Graduate Institute (a private graduate school in California, USA). Minerva University, a partnership between The MinervaProject and KGI.



Minerva, goddess of wisdom, god of war, protector of artists and craftspeople, is the figure in the California state emblem. Athena, one of the twelve Greek gods of Olympus, is the goddess of wisdom in Greek mythology, corresponding to Minerva in Roman mythology.





Founded in 2013, the University of Minerva is currently home to more than 600 students from 80 countries. The founding team brings together a number of educational leaders, including a former Harvard president, a former Harvard dean of social sciences, a former Wharton dean, a former New School president, and the current academic president, Chandler, a member of the National Science Board (NSB) and a member of the Academy of Sciences. Together, these shining educators created the University of Minerva.

It is a school that focuses on "teaching every student how to think" with a unique global immersion program that uses seven cities as classrooms for experiential learning programs - San Francisco (USA), Seoul (Korea), Hyderabad (India), Berlin (Germany), Buenos Aires (Argentina), London (UK), and Taipei (China) -. The program is based on an experiential learning program that builds a logical framework for interdisciplinary thinking and adopts a student-centered "flipped classroom" approach.

Admission officers of the University of Minerva have always been very interested in the innovative education model of JPED. Since the two schools share the same educational philosophy and have similar training methods, the admissions officers of the University of Minerva have repeatedly expressed their desire to visit the school to have in-depth exchanges with JPED students and teachers.


In 2021, Minerva University came into JPED for the first time to unveil its mystery and introduce Minerva's innovative curriculum, global immersion model, and unique application trilogy to JPED students, faculty, and parents in a comprehensive manner. With the same educational philosophy and the same teaching style, its appearance opened a new door for JPED students, and it was like a long goodbye reunion.

Minerva University Application in Three Steps


An alumnus from the University of Minerva, Pablo Guarneros, sums it up very well.


First of all, Minerva does not accept any standardized test, including TOEFL and SAT, but has its own independent application system. It is not a rich man's game where you don't have the opportunity to take one test repeatedly just to brush up on your high grade, or pay high prices for private tutors, or have an agent write your college application essays.


It also doesn't accept traditional college essays that your parents have read, your advisor has corrected, or everyone could possibly polish for you; Minerva's admissions officers want to see the real you, not from other perspective, or in a carefully packaged application.


The University of Minerva's application start by giving you a topic, setting it for a period, and then recording by your computer camera which avoids the process of cheating and ensures that your answer is your personal work.


At Minerva, there is no unhealthy competition among peers and applicants are not treated differently by admissions officers. The prerequisite for non-discriminatory admissions is that you pass Minerva's unique "Application Trilogy".


Alvin's Growth at JPED 

"What are you going to do when you're in college?"

"Haven’t thought about it yet."

That was a conversation between Alvin and some friends who came back from overseas universities.


He has always seen university as a springboard to help him find or prepare for his future career. While he still in high school, he decided to apply for a Gap Year to follow up on his first entrepreneurial project that he started while studying at JPED .


In 2020, Alvin started his own entrepreneurial journey.


During these two years, he discussed with two principals many times about innovation and entrepreneurship, revised business plans, discussed product features and other details; he communicated with marketing teachers about new media promotion strategies, and transfer between Beijing and Zhuhai to shoot product diaries; he traveled around with his co-entrepreneurial partners to talk about cooperation, factories, and promote mass production, etc.

Because he hopes to create a product that can influence human race one day. Eventually his product can meet some unmet needs and change things that can be changed. Alvin decided to start from daily life, so he led his team to create Uocan, a non-electric smart garbage can solve people's daily garbage disposal demand.

Uocan smart trash cans made their world premiere at the JPED Christmas party and were officially unveiled.

While advancing the Uocan project, Alvin continued to participate in the founding of Ge-Electric Technology, which develops and produces a series of sporty new energy vehicles such as electric motocross bikes and scooters .

In these two years, study and work are the main theme of life. He makes full use of his Gap year to polish the product, and with the help and the accompany of the JPED faculty team, he works hard to achieve his initial dream.


In April, Uocan was selected from 57 countries and nearly 11,000 entries to receive the 2022 German iF design award.


The iF design awards are renowned for their "independence, rigor and reliability" and aim to raise public awareness of design. iF design awards are designed to recognize exciting and visionary ideas and concepts that are in line with the following UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).





Once again, congratulations to Alvin for his great achievement! We look forward to seeing him continue to pursue his dreams, and JPED will always be his strongest pillar.


Discovering himself, thinking about the future, and moving forward with his feet on the ground, there is no road in life that is taken in vain, and every step counts.
