Sensory Play in the Early Years 寓教于乐的幼儿园“感官游戏”

In the Early Years, children use their five senses to explore and make sense of the world around them. It is an important part of early childhood development and providing opportunities for children to actively use their senses as they explore their world through ‘sensory play’, which is crucial to brain development. 

在幼儿园,孩子们使用五种感官来探索和理解他们周围的世界。这是儿童早期发展的重要组成部分,为孩子们提供积极使用感官的机会,让他们通过“感官游戏”探索世界,对于儿童大脑发展至关重要。



Learning through sensory exploration comes naturally to young children. This makes sense when you consider that the skills they will come to rely on to build an understanding of objects, spaces, people and interactions, are yet to be fully developed. 

对于幼龄儿童而言,通过感官探索来学习是自然而然的。试想一下,孩子们尚未完全掌握对于物体、空间、人和相互作用的技能,通过感官探索学习是理所当然的。



As adults, our senses provide us with vital information that we use to inform decision-making many times a day. We may take this ability for granted, but it is for this reason that helping children to learn about their own senses is so important.

作为成年人,我们的感官为行动决策提供了重要的信息,我们是基于这些感官信息作出决定的。我们可能觉得这种能力是理所当然的,但也正是这个原因,帮助孩子了解自己的感觉是非常重要的。



In our Early Years programme, some of our units of inquiry emphasise the five senses. In these classes, teachers focus upon touch, smell, taste, sight and hearing. They plan learning engagement to stimulate the children’s senses and help them understand the importance of each unique sense.

在幼儿园的课程中,一些UOI探究单元特别强调五种感官。在这些课程中,教师把重点放在触觉、嗅觉、味觉、视觉和听觉上。在教学中,教师设计的一些活动可帮助激发孩子的五感,并让他们理解每一种独特感官的重要性。



We have tubs of beans and rice with different size cups and spoons for scooping, pouring and transferring. Beans and rice have a cool feeling when touched and have a nice weight when one holds them by the handful. Research has shown that water play has a calming effect. Many children enjoy the soothing touch of water and the sensory stimulation that it offers.

我们用托盘把豆子和大米装起来,里面放着大小不一的杯子和勺子,孩子们可以随心所欲地舀起来、倒下去或转移这些豆子和大米。豆子和大米摸起来凉凉的,可以抓一把在手里感受它的重量。研究表明,戏水具有镇静作用,许多孩子喜欢水舒缓的触感和它提供的感官刺激。




The resources for sensory play



Making sound tubes for transmitting sound vibrations helps stimulate the sense of hearing. Playdough allows for calming effect during this sensory tactile play; students get to knead, press, roll, squeeze and stretch it. Some teachers add fruity scented Kool-Aid powder into the playdough to stimulate the sense of smell. We use blindfolds to teach students to use their senses of touch and hearing to overcome not being able to see. It is also important to have your child try new foods. In one of our learning engagements, we allowed the students to try foods that are sour, sweet, bitter and salty; they also learn new vocabulary at the same time.
