本周, AIC的全体师生以饱满的热情投入到新学期的学习当中。在AIC校园里, 在课堂内外都可以找到老师们对教学的激情爆发,教师促进和构建了不同的学习方法,如交际、探究以及协作教学和学习策略。每一位老师和学生都将怀着克服任何挑战的巨大决心开始新学年。

All of us here at AIC have kick started the new Academic Year 2022-2023 with great enthusiasm and energy for teaching and learning! Such bursts of energetic passion for teaching and learning can be found within and without the classrooms with teachers facilitating and scaffolding differentiated learning pedagogies like communicative, inquiry-based as well as collaborative teaching and learning strategies. Each individual teacher and student will start the new academic year with great determination to overcome any challenges that come our way.

AIC is a school that uses and emphasizes English as our core language of instruction. Our English Department uses multiple pedagogies that will help improve the necessary language skill sets in students. The IGCSE English as First Language class held a Gallery Exhibition Presentation to not only celebrate the end of Unit 1 but to assess the students’ learning.  This end of unit celebration gives students a chance to use the presentation and speaking skills they have learned in class as well as to build their confidence in speaking publicly in English. The confidence in speaking will have a domino effect whereby the attending language skills like reading, writing and listening will improve simultaneously. As such, students will be constantly challenged to improve their English language and will confidently reading, write, listen and speak in English.







本次画廊展览演讲是一次性能总结性评估,是IB和IGCSE推广的教学方法的重要组成部分。学生在具体的实践中获得学习技能,例如: 学生们首先选择一个城市, 以设计、绘画等方式, 学习如何展示与辩论他们获得该城市的具体信息。在《英语作为第一语言教学大纲》的第一单元中,主题是旅行,语言技能是阅读主要思想以及学习撰写有效段落。课堂上所做的活动侧重于阅读和写作技能,通过这些技能,我们讨论、辩论和写作了人们为什么旅行以及谁是著名的旅行者。作为一名教师,Yoke Lin将这四种语言技能融入教学中,作为单元结束,学生们设计了海报并庆祝本单元的结束。这里的关键是为学生创造机会,展示和使用他们所学的语言技能,向观众有说服力地介绍为什么他们应该参观他们选择的城市。 


This Gallery Exhibition Presentation is a Performance Summative Assessment which is an important part of the approaches to teaching and learning promoted by the IB and IGCSE. The students learn by doing - i.e. they were given specific information where they design, draw and learn how to present and argue for the cities of their choice. In Unit 1 of the English as First Language Syllabus, the theme is Travel and the language skills are reading for main ideas as well as learning to write effective paragraphs. The activities done in class focus on the reading and writing skills whereby we discussed, argued and wrote about why people travel and who were the famous travelers. As the teacher, I have embedded the 4 language skills into the teaching and as an end, the students designed the posters and to celebrate the end of the unit. The key here is to create opportunities for students to display and use the language skills they have learned to present persuasively to audiences why they should visit the cities of their choice.

Yap Yoke-Lin于1992年开始她的教学生涯 ,历时30年。她在马来西亚、意大利和新西兰的私立和公立本科和专科院校学习、进行研究和教学,担任各种领导职务,包括部门负责人。在多年的本科和研究生教学生涯后,Yoke-Lin的职业生涯转向IBDP学校的国际教学中,她教授英语A、英语B和知识论(TOK)。她是IB考官,曾担任过包括项目协调员和学校副校长在内的领导职务。

Yap Yoke-Lin’s teaching career began in 1992, spanning 30 years. She studied, conducted research and taught at private and public universities and colleges in Malaysia, Italy and New Zealand holding various leadership roles, including Head of Department. After years of teaching at graduate and postgraduate level, Yoke-Lin’s career took her to international teaching at IBDP schools where she has taught English A, English B, and Theory of Knowledge. She is an IB Examiner and has held leadership positions including program coordinator and deputy head of school.


Yoke-Lin graduated with a B.A (Honors) in English. She then earned a master’s degree for her research into Confucius philosophy and the roles of women in Chinese cultures. She has also completed a Diploma in Italian Language & Culture from the Universita di Siena.


Yoke-Lin enjoys reading, sports, learning languages and travelling to learn about different cultures. It is important to her that teachers help students to fulfill their potential for learning by challenging them to go beyond what they have learned and know. She asserts that lifelong learning and the pursuit of knowledge are continuous processes, and that the skills people learn, in particular critical reading, writing and analysis, are valuable to them in whatever field of studies they choose to pursue.
