Year 4&5 Trip to Airlines Training Centre 研学之旅 | 在多元体验中,领略飞机的奥秘

On Wednesday, March 8, the school organized the first field trip of the school year for the Y4 and some Y5 students to participate in a research course at an aviation training base. The children were able to deepen their insights and opinions about aviation and airplanes through in-depth aviation-themed visits, project experiences, curriculum learning and communication, while learning about various aviation knowledge and intuitively appreciating the mysteries of airplanes in a variety of experiences.

3月8日(周三),学校带领四年级和部分五年级的学生开展了本学年的第一次户外探究学习,他们一同前往航空培训基地参加研学课程。孩子们通过深度的航空主题参观、项目体验、课程学习和交流,加深了自己他们对航空、飞机的认识和见解,同时在多元体验中了解到各种航空知识,以及直观地领略飞机的奥秘。

The coach was buzzing as we stepped onboard, with every student clearly excited about the trip to the China Southern Airlines Training Centre. I can’t say I was surprised given the fact that this was essentially their first school trip since Year 3! It was a long journey there as it was way out, beyond Guangzhou International Airport, which afforded the students a glimpse of the aeroplanes in action as they soared above our coach.

学生们对前往航空培训基地的旅程充满了期待并感到兴奋无比。尽管目的地远在广州国际机场之外,漫长的车程也不能磨灭学生们的热情,他们通过车窗看到了飞机在我们的车上方翱翔。


Recently Year 4 have been investigating Leisure Activities as part of their Unit of Inquiry. As a part of their studies, the students were keen to investigate what goes on behind the scenes aboard the aeroplanes themselves. A key part of our trip was to learn more about how the Air Crew including Flight Crew do their jobs and get us to our holiday destinations on time.

作为四年级探究单元学习的一部分,学生目前正在探究与“休闲活动”相关的主题内容。我们此行的一个关键目的是了解飞行员和空乘人员是如何工作的、飞机是如何运作的、飞机如何将乘客准确且准时的送到目的地。


When we arrived, we were welcomed by professional and friendly training team who seemed just as excited to see us as we were to see them! We had a quick refreshment break, where the students got to enjoy a delicious snack prepared for them by the Catering staff at ISA Tianhe, before watching an introduction video all about China Southern Airlines.

漫长的车程过后,我们到达了培训基地。培训基地的团队热情地欢迎爱莎天河的到来。开启今天研学的第一个行程——航空介绍。学生们观看了航空的介绍视频,了解了航空的发展历程和常识。



Aircraft Simulator Experience

体验模拟飞行的乐趣

Next up it was straight into jumpsuits and off to the incredible Simulator hangar. Walking in it reminded me of NASA’s Kennedy space centre with its huge interior and 4 state of the art fuselage sized simulators. After stopping for a quick photo opportunity, we boarded the largest of these simulators for a once in a lifetime treat! We got to experience the simulator in action. The very competent instructors showed students the flight deck where the pilots sit before carefully talking us through a simulated emergency procedure. They filled the cabin with fake smoke and exterior projections filled each porthole with a digital image of us landing in the sea. I have to say that it was an incredibly immersive experience and the crew prepared the kids extremely well; explaining carefully at each stage what was going to happen next. This left the students absolutely thrilled by the experience as they bounced around in the simulated turbulence and chuckled at the dropping oxygen masks, before being asked to evacuate via the emergency slide.

老师们和孩子们换上了专业的训练服前往1:1还原的飞机模拟舱。走进机舱时,巨大的内部空间和四个先进的仿真驾驶舱让我不禁想起了美国国家航空航天局(NASA)的肯尼迪航天中心。专业的工作人员向学生们展示了飞行员所坐的飞行甲板。我们进入到模拟驾驶舱,体验了一把当飞行员的乐趣,满足了学生们的好奇心。随即我们回到模拟机舱,工作人员仔细地向我们讲述了飞机应急措施和气流颠簸。我们在新奇的动态模拟机舱中体验了气流颠簸、机舱失火等飞行紧急情况。在模拟湍流过程中,舷窗是我们在海上降落的模拟影像,学生们都为此激动不已。这是一个身临其境的体验,机组人员对孩子们详细地讲解飞机迫降的紧急逃生知识、以及接下来将会发生什么。在工作人员的帮助下,我们通过紧急滑梯安全地“撤离”。

Following lunch there was time for another quick refreshment break before heading off to our next training experience. This time we entered a small theatre-like classroom with stepped seating and it was here that we learnt all about the emergency equipment and tools used by flight crews all over the world. The students were absolutely delighted at being able to get hands on with these items and I can’t say I blame them. After all these are the items, you never get to touch in everyday life unless it’s an emergency, so this was a fantastic learning opportunity for them. We watched as they donned life jackets, unravelled a life raft and tried on just about every single type of fire mask ever invented! 

我们在享用丰盛的午餐后,前往下一个培训项目——应急设备科普。工作人员向我们展示了世界各地的飞机所用的救生设备和工具。学生们欣喜若狂地跳了起来,因为他们可以亲手触摸和操作这些设备。我们在日常生活中从未接触过这些物品,所以这对他们来说是个非常好的学习机会。我们看着孩子们穿上救生衣、解开救生筏、试穿各式各样的防火面具。

 
 


Our final activity of the day was CPR training. Something which I had only been talking to my students about the other day, so I was really pleased to see them have an opportunity to get hands on with practice mannequins and put everything they had learnt into practice. Whilst the giggles and laughter were fantastic to see it was also such a valuable experience and hopefully one, they will remember for the rest of their lives.

我们研学之旅最后一项活动是心肺复苏演练。这是我前几天在课堂上与学生们讨论过的事情,所以我真的很高兴看到他们有机会在人体模型上实践心肺复苏,并将他们所学的一切付诸实践。课堂上充满欢笑声,这对于孩子来说将是一个宝贵的经验,希望孩子们可以将这段经历铭记心中。

After the end of the instructional sessions, it was time for one last refreshment break as participation certificates were handed out and individual photos were taken in the main simulator hangar, or as I now refer to it the CNSA building.

本次研学之旅圆满落幕,孩子们被授予了“航空研学体验官”证书并在飞机前合影留念。


Finally, it was back on the coach for our journey home. As Mr. Tristan and I sat there listening to the students recounting their days adventures to one another, before dozing off one by one, we were suddenly reminded how incredibly important school trips like this can be during your formative years. I am left in no doubt that this will be one trip they will remember fondly forever.

最后,我们在回程的车上,Mr. Tristan和我在听学生们互相叙述他们这几天的经历。当一个个孩子在打瞌睡时,我们猛然发现学校旅行在孩子们的成长岁月里是如此的重要。我相信,他们会永远记得这次的旅行。

We and the students can’t wait for the next one!

Students gain knowledge, skills and experiences that are difficult to obtain in the classroom through meaningful field trips. The immersive aviation study programme gave children a novelty and interesting experience while expanding their horizons. In the multifaceted and dynamic experience program, constant inquiry and exploration stimulate children's interest in learning to develop children’s independent inquiry learning. Based on the IB learner's goal of being inquirer, knowledgeable, and balanced, field trips help develop children’s natural curiosity and learn and acquire the skills necessary to conduct investigations and inquiries. They discover knowledge and apply it in the learning process and explore knowledge across fields.

通过有意义的户外探究(Field Trip)让学生获得课堂上难以得到的知识、技能和经验。沉浸式的航空研学课程给孩子们带来了新奇且有趣的体验,同时拓展孩子的视野。孩子们在多元体验项目中不断地探究、探索,激发孩子们的学习兴趣并开展自主探究学习。基于IB学习者的培养目标,积极探究知识渊博全面发展等。户外探究有助于培养孩子们天生的好奇心,学习和掌握开展调查和探究的必要技能,让学生们在学习过程中发现知识并运用知识。
