Messages from the Head of School

Good afternoon students, teachers, colleagues, parents, special guests, Board members,  parents and families of our graduates and most importantly our first Science City graduates. All eyes are on you today.  And all of those eyes are a little jealous. Our Grade 11s up the back are thinking – that’s me this time next year. 1 year to go. Our G6s are thinking 6 years is such a long time.

在座的各位师生、同事、家长、特邀嘉宾、董事代表、毕业生家人们，以及今晚最重要的主角：首届科学城毕业生们，大家下午好！此刻，全场的目光都聚焦于你们身上，或透露着羡慕、或映射了期待。比如我相信后排坐着的11年级学生内心就已经在描绘明年这个时候的自己了；而6年级的学生可能会在想：我们离高中毕业还有6年长长的时光呢！

All of the adults are having flashbacks to their final days in high school and their own graduation and thinking what an exciting time that was. Even though that was more than 40 years ago for me I still remember it clearly.

在座的成年人们，脑海中应该都已经浮现起曾经尽情挥洒青春的高中尾巴，以及当年自己的毕业典礼(谢师宴)等令人难忘的时刻了吧？与我而言，哪怕那已过去40余年，高中毕业的画面依旧历历在目。

We are all jealous. But we are also very proud of you. You are the first graduating class of ISA Science city. You will always be the first graduating class. You are the pioneers and everyone in this auditorium owes you their thanks. Your achievements that we’ll hear about as you collect your diplomas today are outstanding each in their own special and individual way.

毕业生们，相信在座很多人都很羡慕你们，但同时也发自内心地为你们感到自豪。你们是爱莎科学城的首届毕业班，并且永远是第一个毕业班的学生。你们是爱莎科学城的先驱者，这个礼堂里的每个人都会记得你们。当你们每个人双手接过毕业证书时，在座的关注都会听到你们获得的每一项成绩：每个人在特定领域中收获的成功。

As a school our aim is to help every student achieve success and their best in whatever field their passion lies. How do we measure success as a school? For me it is not only about the university offers you’ve received, the IB score you’ll get, the subject awards etc.  They are very important and a recognition of the work you’ve done and should be celebrated and we congratulate each of you. But just as you are the first graduates of ISA Science City, today you become our first Alumni. And the long term success of any school is really based on their alumni. In years to come many people will ask you (and all of our other students sitting here today) what school did you go to? 

身为学校的责任与目标所在，就是帮助每位学生获得成功，并在其所热爱的领域发光发热、精益求精。那么，作为一所学校，我们是如何定义成功的呢？对我来说，成功不仅仅只是一纸大学录取通知书，也不仅是获得的IB分数或者学科奖项等。不可否认这些事物是对你们努力学习的认可，有着重要的遴选和纪念意义，也非常值得所有人的掌声。但这里我想说的是：一个学校长久不衰的成功离不开这所学校的校友。你们作为爱莎科学城第一届毕业生，此刻也多了第一届校友的身份，在未来的日子里，一定会遇到不少人问及你们的毕业学校，在座每一位学生未来都将经历。

The reaction of others will depend on the stories you help tell, the reputation you help build. For us to be a successful school, it will depend on what happens next.

那些未曾了解过爱莎的人对于学校的印象将基于你们所讲述的故事，你们是为学校声誉背书的重要一份子。未来的我们要想成为一所成功的学校，也取决于未来的你们。

During your time at ISA you have worn on your chest this badge representing the four values. Wisdom Courage Integrity and Service. They each go deeper than your IB score, your future College GPA. They will be the way your success will be measured

在爱莎学习期间，你们校服胸前的校徽象征着学校四大价值观：智慧、勇气、正直与服务。这些价值观对于你们内心世界的影响而言，远比IB成绩和未来大学的GPA更为深远。它们将是衡量你们成功与否的标准。

The first of our values is Wisdom. It’s much deeper than just knowledge. How do you use what you know? Always be Curious and have a desire to learn. Try and be a good listener. There is a saying that when you speak you are sharing something you already know; when you listen you have the chance to learn something new Finally always try and be open minded and ready to collaborate and try the ideas of others.

学校的第一个价值观是智慧。它比单纯的知识理论深入得多，更多是关乎运用知识的能力。永远保持好奇心和求知欲，同时善于倾听他人心声。有这么一句俗语：当你在说话时，你是在分享自己已知的东西；而当你倾听时，你才有机会学到新的东西。最后，希望你们始终拥有积极开放的心态，乐于与人协作，拥抱他人的想法。

Next we have Courage and it can be shown in many ways. As you have moved through high school and particularly the IB Diploma it has been hard work and you have needed to develop and show Resilience many times. We live in a world of instant rewards so having the courage to be patient and work hard for something you want is a difficult skill but one that is truly worth it. Hard work takes time.

第二个价值观传递着勇气。勇气的表现形式有很多，例如，当你完成高中阶段、尤其是大学预科项目的学习，表明整个学习历程你们已经很努力，在不断自我提升的过程中同时展现了韧性。我们生活在一个急功近利的社会，因此，拥有耐心且为自己想要的事物努力奋斗，是一项难能可贵的技能。努力也意味着时间的付出。

Courage will involve taking risks and trusting others. It will be hard work and you’ll need to keep going and show tenacity. But aimless hard work is not smart. You need to know where you’re going. Be clear on your ambitions and challenge yourself in a really positive and optimistic way.

勇气也意味着风险的承担以及对他人的信任。这也是一份不容易的“工作”，需要有坚持的毅力和顽强的心。但没有目标的努力也是不可取的，你需要有清晰的前行方向，清楚自己的目标所在，并以真正积极乐观的方式面对挑战，不断超越自我。

The third of our values is Integrity – It can be defined as being true to yourself. Demonstrating Fairness in your relationships and working with others will be one of the key factors in your success. People need to know they can trust you. Always try to be Honest. Many people have discovered that in not beg honest may help in the short term to solve a problem but long term it will catch up with you.

我们的第三个价值观是诚信--它可以被定义为忠于自己。在你与他人的关系和工作中表现出公平性，将是帮助你获得成功的关键因素之一。人们需要知道你是值得被信任的，因此请始终做一个诚实的人。不少人可能会认为，不诚实可以在短期内帮助其投机取巧，但从长远来看，这绝非利于长远发展。

Conviction – be clear in what you believe in. Critical and respected friend – know who you can trust and make sure you are someone who can be trusted.

信念 - 明确你所相信的东西。会批判但同时又尊重你的朋友--能够彼此信任的伙伴。

The final value is Service – It’s all about putting others first. Always show Kindness it does get repaid somewhere along the way. Empathy is all about trying to think of others, how they are feeling and how your actions may  impact on them. I’ve mentioned Trust a number of times but if you are to be successful you need to trust and be trusted and believe in people. Finally being humble. It’s a balance –it’s knowing that it’s not all about you but also knowing that you do make a difference and ensure that it’s a positive one.

最后一大价值观是服务 -- 这是一个以他人为先的价值观。当你始终与人为善，终有一天你会从中受益。同理心是指努力为他人着想，顾虑他人感受并时刻考虑自己的行为对他人产生的影响。前面我有多次提及信任的力量，假如你想获得成功，你需要信任他人，也需要被他人信任，同时要相信群体的力量。这里涉及的最后一个品质就是谦虚，它也体现着一种平衡：你不是世界的中心，但你也能为世界做出积极的改变。

So remember the balance of all these areas. Your success won’t just be measured by your college GPA, your first job, the career you start to create. It will be measured by the kind of people you become, the relationships you form, the kindness and care you show, how you make a difference to others.

所以要记住所有这些领域的平衡。你的成功将不仅仅由你的大学GPA、你的第一份工作以及你开始创造的事业来衡量。它将由你成为什么样的人、你与他人建立的联系、你表现出的善意和关怀，以及你如何为他人带来的改变衡量。

As you reach this point in your journey it is certainly a time of celebration but also a time of gratitude and it’s important that we thank and acknowledge those who have helped you.

此刻的你们，已经到达了人生旅程中一大里程碑，这一刻，不仅是值得庆祝的时刻，更是向那些曾经帮助过你们的人表达感恩之情的时刻。

I want to thank our School support staff, who work tirelessly to keep our school running and provide a safe and supportive environment for our students to focus on learning. Even for today’s ceremony so many different departments from IT, cleaners, marketing department, through to the canteen and many others have been involved in supporting you and us to have a great celebration.

这里，作为校长，首先我要对支持学校运营的员工表达诚挚的感谢，他们不知疲倦的工作，以确保学校的正常运行，为学生提供一个安全且支持性的环境，让师生能够专注于教学。为了今天这场毕业典礼，许多不同的部门，如IT部、市场部、清洁与餐饮等后勤部门以及其它许多部门都参与其中，共同支持你们，只为你们能够拥有人生中仅此一次的完美的高中毕业典礼。

Teachers, today we are gathered with the teachers who have been part of your ISA experience and you have a chance to thank them directly. We also acknowledge every teacher who has been part of your school journey from when you first started in kindergarten right through primary and secondary school. They all made a difference and all in some way inspired you to get to where you are today.

还有在座的老师们，无论是现在还是曾经教导过你们的老师，此刻都坐在台下，你们有机会直接感谢他们。当然，还应该感谢那些在幼儿园、小学和中学曾经陪伴你们学习生涯某段路程的老师，他们每个人对你们的付出，都以某种方式激励你们走到今天的位置。

I want to thank all of our ISA teachers for their efforts not just with our graduates but with all of our students across the school. You make a difference and all of our school community thank you.

我也想感谢所有爱莎的老师，感谢他们不仅为我们的毕业生，而且为全校所有学生所做的努力。是你们创造了非凡，全体学校社区都应该感谢你们！

Finally  your parents and families. They are, have always been and will always be the most important part of your journey. Please take time today to really thank them for their unconditional support. They have been a living example of our four values. Right from birth they have been there for you imparting wisdom, giving you a wonderful role model to follow and encouraging you to keep learning.

最后，还应该对你们的父母和家人表达感恩。他们现在是、过去是、将来也将是你们生命旅程中最重要的部分。因此，请你们今天好好花时间，向他们的无条件付出，发自内心的道一句谢谢。在他们身上，闪烁着学校四大价值观的光芒，从你们出生开始，他们就一直在你身边传授智慧，树立榜样，并鼓励你不断学习。

They displayed courage when they enrolled you at ISA. Joining a new school took bravery from you and your families. There were so many unknowns but you put your trust in what may become of the ISA brand, in the school leaders and the teachers who were here when you began with us. We thank you for this and it has laid such an important foundation for your own children but for all the students and families that will follow.

当他们把你们送入爱莎时，他们表现出了勇气。加入一所新学校需要你们及家人的勇气。虽然面对着众多未知因素，但你们相信爱莎品牌的发展，相信学校的领导和老师。孩子们，当你们踏入校园的那刻起，其实他们，也一直在身边呢。在座毕业生的父母及家人们，我们为此感谢你们，为你们的孩子，也为了未来学校所有的学生和家庭奠定了如此重要的基础。

Your parents have instilled in you their own family values around integrity and honesty and as far as service is concerned that’s just what parents do. They put their children’s needs ahead of their own. They make sacrifices to provide the best possible opportunities for their children. It is just what parents do.

你们的父母已经向你们灌输了他们自己围绕正直和诚实的家庭价值观，就服务而言，这是父母的责任所在。他们把孩子的需求放在自己的前面，他们做出牺牲，为孩子提供尽可能好的机会。这，就是父母。

So today we celebrate this milestone in your lives and congratulate you but we also show our deepest gratitude to the staff, the teachers and the friends and family members who have helped you on your journey.

因此，今天我们相聚于此，共同庆祝你们生命中这一里程碑，为你们庆贺的同时，也为那些在你们的旅程中帮助过你们的工作人员、老师以及朋友和家人表示最深切的感谢。

I’m proud of you all. I’m excited for your future and I know as our first Alumni that your stories will help build the success story of ISA Science City.

我为你们所有人感到骄傲，并无比期待你们的未来。我坚信，作为第一届爱莎科学城的校友，你们的故事将成为爱莎科学城悠久辉煌而灿烂的乐章的开始。
