竞赛的意义是什么?也许是通过探索和努力,点亮心里的火花。


近期,爱莎荔湾国际方向收到了一批国际学术竞赛的捷报。我们与其中几位获奖同学进行了对话。他们向我们展示了,在竞赛的背后,兴趣是如何为成长提供源源不断的驱动力。

Recently, ISA Liwan's International Division has received batches of good news from international academic competitions.


What's the Meaning of Competitions? Perhaps it is through exploration and effort that the spark in the heart is ignited. 


We had conversations with 3 award-winners. They showed us that, behind the competition, how interests continuously drive growth.

“这只是一个开始,我还有更多的比赛想要参加。”


谈及竞赛带来的收获,龚同学给出了一个踌躇满志的回答。


在对话的开始,龚同学自称是“佛系”少年,因为“化学老师推荐说这个比赛适合我,”再加上报了名的同伴“不想孤零零一个人去参赛”,龚同学便抱着“试一试”的心态站上了赛道。

“佛系”不等于守株待兔。


在指导老师的引导下,龚同学对知识点进行了梳理,通过针对性的查漏补缺,建立相对完整的备赛知识体系。


在备赛时提前学习十二年级的知识时觉得有些难,但是这并未拦住龚同学继续探索的脚步。当轻舟已过万重山时,一切豁然开朗。毕竟,学习的收获总是相伴着困难而来。




学术导师Sampson曾评价道“给他设立一个小目标,他会不顾一切去做好”。


确实,龚同学勇于尝试一切感兴趣的事物:加入学校的帆船队、在羽毛球比赛中获胜……偏爱复古电子风格音乐的龚同学最近开始了对电子音乐的创作挑战,“不要担忧,使劲往前冲,刺激的成就感一下子就出来了。”

"This is just the beginning. I have more competitions I want to participate in."


When talking about the gains from competitions, Student GONG gave an optimistic response. At the beginning of the conversation, GONG referred to himself as a "Zen" youth. Just because "the chemistry teacher recommended this competition for me," and a companion "didn't want to participate alone," GONG approached the track with a "give it a try" attitude.

 "Zen" doesn't mean doing nothing. 


Guided by his mentor, GONG organized knowledge points, filled gaps purposefully, and established a relatively complete knowledge system for preparation. 


At first, learning advanced knowledge beyond the 12th grade seemed difficult, but looking back, it turned out to be much simpler. After all, the rewards of learning always accompany difficulties.



Sampson, his academic mentor once commented, "Set GONG a small goal, and he will do everything to achieve it."


Indeed, GONG is willing to try everything of interest: joining the school's sailing team, winning in badminton competitions. GONG, who favors electronic music, has recently taken up the challenge of creating electronic music. "Don't worry, push forward vigorously, and the stimulating sense of achievement will come in an instant."

“刚接触经济学时,我以为经济是枯燥乏味的,但这次竞赛却颠覆了我对经济学的认知。”


崔同学在经济学老师Yan的推荐下,与几位同学一起组队报名参加了NEC竞赛。为了取得好成绩,崔同学在老师专门设置的竞赛指导课中巩固知识、与小组成员讨论经济学案例、向老师提问错题和难题以寻求更好的解题思路。

即使是周末和假期,她也会利用网络上的资源去学习课本中未涉及的经济概念。逐步建立起经济学的思维框架后,崔同学在日常生活中也会留心社会事件中内在的经济运行原理和规律,“以前读不懂的新闻,现在看一眼就能大致推测出背后隐藏的经济原因”。


纸上得来终觉浅,崔同学认为竞赛对她的帮助不仅在于将课堂所学经济知识的活学活用,还使其在了解实事和分析案例的过程中拓展了自己的经济视野。不仅如此,与小组成员的讨论互动中,人际交往能力和沟通协调能力也得到了提升。



“在我眼中,经济学的大多概念都是相互联系的。因此,建立经济概念的最好方法是利用思维导图来整合概念之间的联系,”崔同学希望更多对经济感兴趣的同学也能够通过参加竞赛来提升自己。

"When I first encountered economics, I thought it was dull, but this competition overturned my perception of economics."


Recommended by economics teacher Ms. Yan, CUI, along with a few classmates, formed a team to participate in the NEC competition. To achieve good results, CUI consolidated knowledge in the competition's guidance class, discussed economic cases with group members, and asked the teacher about wrong and difficult questions to seek better solution approaches.

Even on weekends and holidays, she used online resources to study economic concepts not covered in textbooks. After gradually building an economic thinking framework, CUI also paid attention to the underlying economic principles and laws in current events in her daily life. "News that I couldn't understand before, I can now roughly speculate on the hidden economic reasons."


Paper knowledge is shallow; CUI believes that the competition has helped her not only in applying the economic knowledge learned in class but also in expanding her economic perspective through understanding real situations and analyzing cases. Moreover, interpersonal communication skills and coordination abilities were enhanced through discussions with group members.



"Most economic concepts are interconnected. Therefore, the best way to establish economic concepts is to use mind maps to integrate the connections between concepts." CUI hopes that more students interested in economics can improve themselves by participating in competitions.

兴趣是激发热情的火花,也是迈出脚步的理由。


在梁同学的成长中,一次次的行动都源于对兴趣发展的探索和求证。带着对逻辑和灵感碰撞的喜欢,梁同学与志同道合的同学们一拍即合、共同创办起了数学club,并请来经验丰富的Raghavendra老师担任答疑指导。大家会在课余时间搜集感兴趣的数学难题,在每周两次的club活动中共同讨论,在交流中迎难而上、获得进步。

不沉溺于一次比赛的成绩,听从内心去探索更多的可能性。在与升学指导老师在探讨自己未来学术发展方向时,他表达了自己对化学的兴趣。追溯回初中,梁同学就常常自己动手进行一些简单又有趣的科学小实验,比如电解水实验、自制发酵酸奶实验报告……


于是,在老师的建议下,梁同学目前正在全力准备即将开始的HOSA化学竞赛,并在Coursera公开课网站自学上海交通大学的材料科学基础等课程。


梁同学说道,“总要去看、去做,才会知道自己想要的是什么。”

Interest is the spark that ignites passion and the reason to take steps. In LIANG's growth, each action stems from the exploration and verification of interests.


With a liking for the collision of logic and inspiration, LIANG, along with like-minded classmates, spontaneously founded a mathematics club. Experienced teacher Mr. Raghavendra was invited to provide guidance. They collect interesting math problems in their spare time and discuss them twice a week in the club activities, facing challenges and making progress through exchanges.

Not immersed in the results of a single competition, LIANG explored more possibilities. When discussing his future academic development direction with the college guidance teacher, he expressed his interest in chemistry. Looking back to his junior high school, LIANG often conducted simple and interesting science experiments on his own, such as the electrolysis of water and making fermented yoghurt experiment reports


Therefore, upon the teacher's suggestion, LIANG is currently fully preparing for the upcoming HOSA chemistry competition and self-studying courses like fundamental materials science at Shanghai Jiao Tong University on the Coursera platform.


LIANG says, "You have to go wherever you want, and do whatever you want. Then you will know what you really want."

How ISA Liwan Supports Interests Exploration

对于学术竞赛,爱莎荔湾一直坚信培养兴趣的重要性远大于“卷”成绩本身。


竞赛的正解首先是兴趣培养,让学生真正对相关学科产生兴趣并持续热爱;其次,赛事的正确意义在于‘以赛促学’,助力学生在对应学科进行更深入的研究”


因此,爱莎荔湾致力于为每一位学生提供进行学科探索的“土壤”,把学生放在有多种兴趣培养的学校环境里,让学生在其中体验和感受,找到自己真正的兴趣所在。

For academic competitions, ISA Liwan has always believed that cultivating interest is far more important than competition award result itself.

 

The correct answer to competitions lies first in cultivating interest, allowing students to genuinely develop an interest in the relevant subjects and continue to love them. Secondly, the true significance of competitions is in 'learning through competition,' helping students conduct deeper research in the corresponding subjects.

 

Therefore, ISA Liwan is committed to providing a "soil" for each student to explore subjects, placing students in a school environment with a variety of interest cultivation, allowing students to experience and feel, and find their true interests.

从三位获奖同学的身上,我们可以清晰地看到比赛本身的意义,包括专注于目标、怀抱开放探索的心态、乐于付出和坚持……


在体验过程中,一次次发现探索的乐趣、一次次感受兴趣的动力、一次次获得成长的信心。也许,一份持续且长久的热爱,会在过尽千帆中收获。


成长的故事还在现在进行时,期待他们,以兴趣、以潜力、以努力,在未来的人生竞赛中找寻到更多的可能性。

From the three award-winning students, we can clearly see the meaning of the competition itself, including focusing on goals, embracing an open exploratory mindset, being willing to contribute, and persevering...


In the process of experiencing, time and time again, they discover the joy of exploration, feel the motivation of interest, and gain confidence in growth. Perhaps, a lasting and enduring passion will be harvested through the trials and tribulations.


The story of growth is still unfolding, and we look forward to them, with interest, potential, and effort, discovering more possibilities in the future life competition.
