UISZ Contextual Learning Days with Year 4, 5, and 6 四五六年级学习实践日

Years 4, 5, and 6 went on an extraordinary learning experience beyond their classrooms.  We went to the wilderness among the rocky cliffs of Cliff Haus in QingYuan city of Guangdong province, surrounded by villages, farms and tea gardens. The students participated in three sets of activities over the two days at the camping site – rock climbing, cave exploration, parkour, slackline, and bouldering.  


4、5 和 6 年级在课堂之外进行了非凡的学习体验。我们去了广东省清远市涯迹的悬崖峭壁环绕的荒野,周围环绕着村庄、农场和茶园。学生们在露营地的两天时间里参加了三组活动——攀岩、洞穴探险、跑酷、绳索和抱石。

This outdoor learning experience enabled students to develop self-confidence by overcoming their fear in general and especially the fear of failure. During their reflection sessions, they shared their feelings of accomplishment of tasks they would have otherwise never tried in their life. Rock climbing was the most challenging activity for all of them. However, almost all of them successfully climbed the rock. Some did climb more than twice due to the thrill and experience of confidence by doing such a task. The cave exploration exposed them to the unknown world of minerals, stalactites, stalagmites, crystals, and nocturnal cave animals of various types. Parcour was the most enjoyed activity in the third group of activities.

Apart from activities, the general living and dining as a community also provided ample opportunities for our young learners to live and realize the beauty of fellowship, sharing, caring, adapting and impacting. They pitched their tents, cleaned their dishes, and diligently appreciated the bounties they enjoyed during their time at the camp. Every mealtime was an opportunity to blend with their peers, exhibiting tolerance, discipline and a sincere sense of resource sustainability. During their free time, they went for a walk around the village, played various games and most importantly, stayed away from their electronic device for good. They felt the joy of being and living an organic life rather than a lifestyle glued to inorganic life-less devices that children of their age could easily get attracted to.  


除了活动之外,以社区为整体的生活和餐饮也为我们的年轻学生提供了充足的机会来体验和实现友情、分享快乐、关怀他人、适应环境和发挥影响力的魅力。他们勤奋地支起帐篷,洗碗,在营地期间享受成果。他们在每一次进餐的机会与同龄人交流,展现出宽容、纪律和真诚以及资源的可持续性意识。闲暇之余,他们会在村子里散散步,玩各种游戏,最重要的是,他们完全远离电子设备。他们感受到了有机生活的乐趣,而不是他们这个年龄的孩子备受吸引的无机物无生命设备的生活方式。

The fact that we all went and returned safe is a testimony to our students’ excellent standards of discipline and camaraderie. The organizers were amazed by the lack of food wastage and care for the environment our students displayed as their identity of being the “Cobras from Utahloy!” 


最后我们都安好地回到校园,这证明了我们的学生纪律严明,友爱互助。营地组织者对我们节约食物和保护环境而感到惊讶,我们的学生展现出“来自誉德莱眼镜蛇”的优异素质!
