11月1日, AIC西班牙语老师Rosio组织了一次小型的墨西哥“亡灵节”演讲, 该活动旨在为学生提供了一个跨国文化的学习机会, 推进跨国文化交流的普世情怀, 培养我们的学生成为具有国际情怀的人。


The AIC Spanish teacher, Rosio, organized a small Mexican "Day of the Dead" presentation for both AIC students and teachers. The event aimed to provide students with a platform for transnational cultural learning and to promote the universal sentiment of transnational cultural exchanges and to cultivate in our students the knowledge and experiences to become people with international sentiments.




活动当天, Rosio老师与学生带着墨西哥当地人在亡灵节的装扮, 布置亡灵节的祭坛,带动了整个节日的气氛, 让学生们身临其境。DP1的Abby、Jolina、Eddie和Albert同学用西班牙语演讲搭配英语翻译, 向同学和老师介绍了亡灵节的由来与其意义, 让在座的每一位师生感受到浓厚的印第安民族文化特色。


Rosio and students from the Spanish class decorated an altar to celebrate the “Day of the Dead” with some costumes especially used for this occasion, which did not only bring the class together but also gave other students the opportunity to broaden their understanding of the Mexican culture. Students from DP1, including Abby, Jolina, Eddie and Albert, gave speeches in Spanish with English translations to introduce the origin of the “Day of the Dead”, giving everyone an experience and understanding of this traditional element of the Mexican culture.

亡灵节在西班牙语中叫 “Día de los Muertos”,是墨西哥的传统;这个国家位于美洲大陆;这一天通常在 11 月 1 日或 2 日。它在墨西哥文化中有着重要的地位,印第安土著文明相信,人死后会经历一段漫长的旅程到达“米特兰(mictlan)”,即人死后居住的世界,之后仅有一天能回到人间与活着的亲人相聚,这一天就是亡灵节。这是一个非常有意义的庆祝活动,家人们团聚在一起,唱歌,跳舞,吃墨西哥传统食物,他们用所爱的人的照片、鲜花和食物做成祭坛,纪念逝去的人。卡特里娜象征着死亡,在这些日子里,人们通常画着骷髅的脸来象征她。对墨西哥人来说,这个传统代表着他们作为一个国家的身份。


The “Day of the Dead” or the “Día de los Muertos” (in Spanish) is a tradition in Mexico; This country is located in the American continent. This special day is usually celebrated on the first or second of November. It has an important place in the Mexican culture because it connects people with their loved ones who passed away. This is a celebration of happiness where the families are gathered with singing, dancing and eating Mexican traditional food near the altars they make and decorate it with flowers and the pictures of their loved ones. This whole celebration is for the remembrance of the people they love that passed away. The Katrina represents death, during these days the people usually paint their faces to symbolize her. For Mexicans, this tradition tells who they are as a country.

The mission of the IB course puts forward (IBO, 2017): “The goal of the International Baccalaureate Organization is to cultivate diligent, knowledgeable, and caring young people who, through their understanding and respect for multiculturalism, contribute to a better life. Contribute to a peaceful world.” The core idea of the International Baccalaureate is to cultivate students to become international-mindedness people. Hill (2013) summarized the related definitions:

Through the study of cross-border issues and the application of related abilities such as criticism and cooperation, we can form attitudes and actions that are conducive to the promotion of cross-cultural understanding, peaceful coexistence and global sustainable development for the future of mankind.


这次活动, 使我们的学生意识到跨文化理解与语言学习密切关系,通过学习其他族群的语言可增加对其他族群的认知,并欣赏其不同于自己的生活方式,从而发展出正面的待人态度, 这正正契合了IB的教育理念。IB 高度重视学习者“国际情怀”(International Mindedness)的培养,以 具备“跨文化理解”能力。“国际情怀”始终贯彻于学习者培养目标中.


This activity made our students realize that cross-cultural understanding is closely related to language learning. By learning the languages of other ethnic groups, they can increase their cognition of other ethnic groups and appreciate their different lifestyles, thereby developing a positive treatment of others. Attitude, this is exactly in line with IB's educational philosophy. IB attaches great importance to the cultivation of learners' “International Mindedness” in order to have the ability of “cross-cultural understanding”. "International sentiment" has always been implemented in the training goals of learners.
