What made you choose to study at AIC?

我在初中阶段已对IB国际课程颇感兴趣,AIC正好提供了这一课程的学习平台,且IB科目开设齐全。入读前的参观让我了解到AIC教学与住宿等配套设施的完备,中外师生比例和小班制教学模式以及沉浸式的英语氛围皆有助于我提升英语综合能力。由此,我Pre-DP便转读AIC。


I have been very interested in the IB course at the junior high school stage. AIC provides a learning platform for this course, and the IB subjects are fully offered which perfectly suits me. The site visit before admission of AIC made me understand that it has a fully complete facilities such as teaching and accommodation, the ratio of Chinese and foreign teachers and students, small class teaching mode, and the immersive English atmosphere, all these I know would help me improve my comprehensive English ability. As a result, I studied at AIC from Pre-DP.

初到AIC,最令我惊喜的是学校课外活动的多样化,对比体制内学校,AIC有充足的机会让我参与组织各类活动,领导力与执行力都得到锻炼。同时,参加学院制组织下的各项比赛使我拥有更多的团队荣誉感与归属感。此外,AIC非常注重培养学生的自律和自学能力,因每天我们都有一定个人自由支配的时间,可以灵活利用好这些时间提升或放松自己,进而增强自我管理意识和提高学习效率。


When I first arrived at AIC, what surprised me most was the diversification of extracurricular activities in the school. Comparing with the school systems, AIC had ample opportunities for me to participate in various activities, and both my leadership and execution skills were exercised. At the same time, participating in various competitions organized by the college system gives me more sense of team honor and belonging. In addition, AIC attaches great importance to cultivating students' self-discipline and self-learning ability, for every day we have a certain amount of personal discretionary time, which can be flexibly used to improve or relax ourselves, thereby enhancing self-management awareness and improving learning efficiency.

在AIC有参加哪些有特色,对你升学有帮助的课外活动?

What extracurricular activities have you participated in at AIC that are unique or helpful for your further studies?

DP1的暑期,我参加了AIC的计算机科学夏校线上项目(关于利用树莓派和Python编程实现人脸识别功能)。在Miguel老师耐心地讲授下,我反复修改错处,一步步完善代码,在挫败感与成功感交错中磨炼了耐力与毅力。鉴于我所申请的如“风险管理与商业智能”等大学专业,都涉及到计算机编程技能,因此提前接触与人工智能、机器学习等相关的内容,也让我在大学申请面试中令面试官眼前一亮,从而更坚定了我未来修读与计算机科学相关专业的信心。


During the summer holiday of DP1, I participated in AIC's computer science summer school online project (about using Raspberry Pi and Python programming to realize face recognition function). Under Mr. Miguel's patiently teaching, I repeatedly revised my mistakes, improved the code step by step, and honed my endurance and perseverance in the intertwined sense of frustration and success. Given that the university majors I applied for, such as "risk management and business intelligence", all involved computer programming skills, I was exposed to the content related to artificial intelligence, machine learning, etc. in advance, which also made me impress the interviewer in the university application interview. It brightened up and strengthened my confidence in studying computer science-related majors in the future.

How has your AIC study experience positively impacted your life and study?

AIC的学习经历给予我充足的时间和机会去挖掘能力所长及探索兴趣所在,为选择未来专业方向作出清晰的导向。此外,AIC是我第一次的住校体验,锻炼我生活上独立自理的能力,逐渐由依赖转变到自立。


The study experience at AIC gave me ample time and opportunity to explore my strengths and interests, so as to give me a clear direction for choosing a future professional direction. In addition, AIC was my first experience of living on campus, which exercised my ability to be independent in life, and gradually changed from dependence to self-reliance.

请分享在读时,印象深刻的两三件事

Please share some stories that impressed you throughout your AIC life.

在DP1时,我与同学们合作一个心理IA的实验,大家一起讨论设计方案、调整细节,从纸条的放置到怎样引领参与者进入教室,我自己也在脑海中无数次演练实验的场景,排查是否还有遗漏的步骤。如我所愿,在团队的共同努力下实验进行非常顺利,我还根据实验数据分析出结论并完成了IA。对于“实验小白”的我能成功地合作完成这个心理实验,感觉特别神奇和兴奋。

也在DP1时,我第一次作为活动策划CAS的负责人策划校运会。由于没有组织过大型活动的经验,我前后发了不下几十封邮件去请教与沟通,和组员一起分工合作协调赛前的准备工作。如比赛项目与时间的安排、裁判与运动员的编排、比赛场地与用品的落实、环保袋的设计与加工网购及义卖、奖牌购买的统计等等事宜,一环扣一环,为运动会的顺利进行做好准备。如大家所愿,运动会进行顺利、圆满收官。

这两次活动无一例外都得到老师们的支持以及同学们的高度配合,在此深表谢意。


During DP1, I collaborated with my classmates on a psychological IA experiment. We discussed the design plan and adjusted the details together. From the placement of the note to how we lead the participants into the classroom, I myself also rehearsed the scene of the experiment countless times in my mind, check for missing steps etc. As I wished, the experiment went very smoothly with the joint efforts of the team, and I also analyzed the experimental data and concluded and completed the IA. As an "experimental novice" I was able to successfully cooperate to complete this psychological experiment, I felt very magical and excited.

In addition, in DP1, for the first time, I planned the school sports meeting as the person in charge of the event planning CAS. Since I have no experience in organizing large-scale events, I have sent dozens of emails to ask for advice and communication, and work with the team members to coordinate the preparations before the competition day. Such as the arrangement of competition items and time, the arrangement of referees and athletes, the implementation of competition venues and supplies, the design and processing of environmentally friendly bags, online shopping and charity sales, statistics of medal purchases, etc. to make sure everything is prepared and ready. The games finally went on smoothly and ended successfully.

These two activities have received the support and complements of the teachers and the high cooperation of the students without exception.

申请的专业和学校包括哪些,以及申请这个专业和学校的原因是什么?

What majors and schools have you applied, and why?

我申请的专业包括金融数学、金融科技、风险管理与商业智能等。我一直对数学和计算机科学比较感兴趣,也参加了一些商科比赛和数学竞赛,IB的HL选课是经济、数学(分析与方法)、计算机科学,课外的赛事经历以及我选择的科目配置,在申请这些交叉学科专业有较高的匹配度。然后根据专业方向、学校排名、地理位置等综合因素选择大学,我申请的大学有新加坡的国立、南洋理工,香港的港中科、英国的帝国理工、伦敦政经等。


The majors I applied for include financial mathematics, financial technology, risk management and business intelligence. I have always been interested in mathematics and computer science, and I have also participated in some business competitions and mathematics competitions. The HL courses of IB are economics, mathematics (analysis and methods), computer science, extracurricular competition experience and the subject configuration I have chosen. Applying for these interdisciplinary majors has a higher degree of matching. Then I choose a college based on comprehensive factors such as professional orientation, school ranking, geographical location, etc. The colleges I applied for include National University of Singapore、Nanyang Technological University、HKU、HKUST、CUHK、Imperial College London and LSE, etc.

你认为标化考试是什么时候开始准备为好?提高分数有什么技巧?

When do you think is the best time to prepare the standard tests? What are the techniques for improvement?

我的雅思是在Pre-DP开始准备的,这个阶段的学习压力较小,时间也比较充裕。我认为提高分数的技巧是一边在各学科上做单词和知识的积累,一边熟悉雅思的题型。平时多听英文歌或看英剧、美剧等,在考试前专注刷难度稍大一些的真题可有助快速提分。


I started preparing for my IELTS in the ninth grade. This stage is less stressful and more time-consuming. I think the trick to improve your score is to get familiar with the IELTS question types while accumulating vocabulary and knowledge in various subjects. Usually, listening to English songs or watching British dramas, American dramas, etc., and focusing on the slightly more difficult questions before taking the exam can help to improve your score quickly.

你认为在个人文书里,如何可以突出自己的优势和特点,提高被录取的机会?

In your opinion, how can you highlight your own strengths and characteristics in your personal essay to improve your chances of being admitted?

我认为在个人文书中应该以实际的事例来体现自己的长处,强调自己在其中的收获,描述时也可融入一些学科的关键词或专业术语,展现出自己的兴趣以及在这专业领域上已有一定的探索和理解,以此提高被录取的机率。


I think in my personal statement, I should use actual examples to reflect my strengths, emphasize my gains in it, and include some key words or professional terms in the description, showing my interest and experience in this professional field. There is a certain amount of exploration and understanding to improve the chances of being admitted.

是否可以分享一下文书里面,你认为有吸引力的故事或者要点?

Can you share some stories or points in the personal statement that you think are attractive?

我的申请文书中提及我曾经在商赛中与其他同学一起撰写了一篇金融投资报告。虽然我没有选修商管课,但为完成投资报告,我自学了企业分析的模型,并在学习过程中对于如何运用计量方法产生了浓厚的兴趣。我认为凸显自主学习能力以及思考能力也可作为文书中的一个亮点。


My application essay mentioned that I once wrote a financial investment report with other students in the business competition. Although I did not take business management courses as an elective, in order to complete the investment report, I taught myself the model of enterprise analysis, and during the learning process, I developed a strong interest in how to use measurement methods. I think that highlighting the ability of independent learning and thinking can also be a bright spot in the document.

当你收到自己心仪的offer时是怎么样的心情?

收到offer的瞬间感受是经过多重考核终被认可的喜悦,而当我仔细阅读offer上的条件后,清醒地认识到应将offer视作为继续奋斗至IB大考的原动力,已经手握半张入场券,剩下的半张就要靠努力冲刺IB大考来换取。


The instant feeling of receiving the offer is the joy of being recognized after multiple assessments, and when I carefully read the conditions on the offer, I clearly realized that the offer should be regarded as the driving force for continuing to strive for the IB exam. Tickets, and the remaining half of the tickets will be exchanged for sprinting for the IB exam.

During Irene studied IB courses at AIC, her abilities of independent learning and critical inquiry have been fully extended. In addition, Irene actively participated in various activities organized by AIC, which improved her leadership and action. She has laid a good foundation for better integration into the study and life for future.

when Irene choose subjects for DP, she could make an objective self-assessment of the learning status.  She analyzed and discussed with us about the subjects according to factors such as her abilities, hobbies, future career planning and so on. For the university application process in DP2, she has her own unique insights and methods, from school selection to majors.  She completed the whole application by herself.  We are proud of her progress.  We also encourage her to studies earnestly and steadfastly when she study abroad.
