This week, we discussed the differences between an argument (conflict) and a debate.  Students worked collaboratively to answer this question concisely. Also, we learned about primary and secondary sources. Then students watched a lecture and focused on a prompt based on the lecture. By understanding the sources, I explained how we can use rhetorical appeals to choose the evidence for your argument to attract people’s attention and have the opinions more believable. With all the steps paved, our students began researching for our first debate and we plan to have a practice debate for them to implement the theories.

本周，我们讨论了argument(争执)与debate(辩论)之间的区别，在通过一系列的讨论后，学生们简单地回答了这个问题。在明白了辩论意义后，我们开始学习辩论的准备步骤，如何翻阅一手资料和二手资料，他们的用途、可信度、区别又是什么。随后，我为他们播放了一场讲座，并根据讲座重点圈出一个重点，让大家去讨论与思考。通过对资料来源的步骤的学习后，我又为大家进一步介绍了如何使用修辞手法来为你的论点选择证据，以吸引人们的注意，使观点更可信。这周我们已经把准备工作学习的差不多了，剩下的时间我们将会实践我们理论知识，让孩子们准备一场真正的辩论！

Critical Thinking

This week is the first week of the Transition Camp , it was good to welcome all of the students to our critical thinking class. Firstly, Mr Paris introduced critical thinking to students. Later in the following classes, he has given many different topics to students to discuss such as discussions about jokes, hypothetical thinking and how we think of arts. The analysis of these topics provides an opportunity of very precise, critical thinking. It also gave students a completely new experience of considering things from other perspectives.

本周是暑期衔接营的第一周，很高兴看到这么多新面孔参加我们的这节课程。开始时，Mr Paris向各位介绍了批判性思维以及给它简单的下了定义。在接下来的课程中，他也给孩子们布置了很多不同的话题来讨论，比如关于笑话、假设性以及我们对艺术的看法。对这些主题的分析提供了一个非常精确、批判性思考的机会。这也给了学生在思考问题时的全新体验。

This week, Mr Mike led students to discuss different types of distraction and how to make a plan to avoid procrastination by setting a plan with time management of smaller tasks to complete the overall task, as how to focus our attention better to increase our expectations and motivations.

Furtherly, to cope with the distractions and plans we discussed, students began to brainstorm about what methods they already use to stay organized and whether multitasking was useful or not. Mike gave some helpful tips to keep things in daily life organized. Also recommended task manager apps to keep details about assignments. As well as the best ways to use an online calendar and storage folders. Finally, they designed their own homework folders with "To Do" on one side and "Done" on the other.

本周，Mike老师带领学生们讨论了不同类型的分心因素，以及如何制定一个计划来解决我们的拖延症，通过制定一个小任务的时间管理计划来完成整体任务，如何更好地集中我们的注意力，让我们充满动力。此外，为了应对生活与学习中的干扰，学生们开始头脑风暴，讨论他们现实当中已实行的保持条理和做计划的方法，以及在多任务处理上这些方法是否管用。老师给出了一些让日常生活井井有条的有用建议。也推荐任务管理器等应用程序来保存任务的进程，还有如何使用在线日历和存储文件夹。最后，他们设计了自己的作业文件夹，分清楚要做的事情与已完成的事情。

Drama

This week in Drama Class, we firstly began with some warmup games to learn each other’s names and start to get familiar with each other to lay the foundation for team building. Students created an atmosphere that was very lively and friendly. Scripts and casting are the two important parts in drama. So Ms Phoebe led students all together to read and create scripts. While doing it, students also learnt new vocabulary that students will need to be familiar with, not only for drama lessons but also for any English Literature classes in the future. Miss Phoebe was very impressed with the group’s commitment to the activities and support of one another, and is delighted to see that students are engaged and focused in the lessons and have the confidence now to seek clarification and ask questions if they are unsure of instructions or the meaning of words.

本周的戏剧课上，同学们首先通过一些热身游戏来了解彼此的名字，并开始熟悉彼此，为后面的团队建设奠定基础，大家的气氛活跃且友好。剧本和演员是戏剧的两大要素，在Phoebe老师的带领下，学生们一起阅读并展开了小小的创作之旅，也在此过程中学到了新词汇。这些词汇不仅适用于戏剧课，对于未来的英语文学课也大有用处哟。学生们在课堂上的投入和相互支持帮助的场景让老师印象深刻，很高兴看到学生们在课堂上的投入和专注，并且及时地在不确定指令或单词的意思时寻求解释和提出自己不会的问题。

Global Perspective

This week in Global Perspective, Ms Erica has shown how essential Global Perspective is for a future leader. Firstly, she introduced the content, goals and objectivesto students to tell them what will be included in the following classes. Later, students have taken small discussions to talk about their interested and related topics. The topics for this week included different ways of greetings in the world, cultural factors that help develop the personal cultural identity, some common values across various cultures, religions, and traditions. Students then took turn and talked, sharing thoughts after the activities with objective mindset, and they also worked in groupings to present their ideas with clear logics and great preparations!

首先Erica老师简单介绍了全球视野是这门课程的含义，还与大家共同讨论感兴趣的国际话题。同学们积极参与、献言献策，为接下来的课程提供了有趣且意义非凡的话题。在本周我们的讨论也从多元文化视角开展，包括了世界各地人们打招呼的方式、文化认同背后涉及的原因、还有跨越文化的共识等等有趣的议题。在学习与讨论的过程中，孩子们分组配合，互帮互助，共同准备呈现出了逻辑清晰的观点输出。

During the transition camp, I hope that students can see vocabulary class from a new filter and learn English words in a fun way. Our class started with a warm-up activity “spot the loanwords in Chinese and English”. It’s really engaging and everyone made his or her contribution. They rediscovered the interesting part of the vocabulary accumulation process and I cannot wait to see more of their surprises and joy in the following classes

希望通过本次衔接营，学生能从一个新的角度看待词汇课，并用一种有趣的方式学习英语单词。这周我们以一个热身活动“找出汉语和英语中的外来词”开始，游戏的有趣新颖引得大家纷纷举手踊跃参与，每个人都提出了自己的想法，发现原来词汇的积累其实也能乐趣纷呈。希望大家保持热情，可以不断地在学习与自我复习中找到单词的乐趣呀！真是迫不及待地想在新的一周看到更多惊喜与欢乐。

Grammar

This week’s classes were very successful and enjoyable. The topic covered was Subject-Verb agreement and applied it within complicated sentences. Students were working hard and they managed to identify correct subjects and verbs in a variety of sentences, from simple ones to more challenging ones. They managed to understand and write inversed sentences, which make their communication more effective and concise. They did show the potential to write good English sentences. I felt proud of them, and I was glad that everyone was engaged in materials and illustrations. They were trying their best to grab what I taught, and their class performance was outstanding.

本周课程进行的非常顺利，学生们学习了主谓一致的语法点，并如何将它运用到拆解长难句与实际造句上。大家都很认真地学习，成功地在各种句子中找到正确的主语和动词，还设法理解并写出倒装句。有了这些知识，在未来的交流中，他们会感觉更为清晰与简洁。这出色的课堂表现也显示出大家巨大的学习潜力。作为老师，我特别开心能看到他们尽自己最大的努力去掌握所学内容，期待大家未来的表现！

Mr. Allen led with an introduction with a brief personal history of who he was. His first few jobs added experience, but it ultimately led him to become an educator. Students were asked what the most important pieces of academic writing they will need to master in the following aspects:

1. Cover Letters and CVs

2. Communication (ie. instructions)

3. Passion

We will be learning how to write these pieces for the next two weeks.

本周在学术写作课上，Allen老师先和同学们进行了个人介绍，并由此引出他所要讲的学术写作针对不同场景的应用，包括了自荐信、简历、应用文写作、沟通方面应该如何进行专业的书写。在第二周，老师将会带大家着手练习。

This week, Ms Ma scaffolded terms in science with cloze and reviewed the concept and restrictions of scientific methods. After which, students set hands on the first investigation on human reaction time and went through the stages of conducting research, from which they developed an understanding of the experimental design.

In today’s science lesson, after going through the major experimental steps discussed, students were excited to carry out their firsthand investigation to determine their own reaction time. Students worked in a team of two and took turns in measuring and recording the drop distance by following the scientific method. Results were recorded and analyzed, and a discussion was led by the class teacher in identifying the errors and ways to improve the experiment. Many students were active thinkers and made great scientific suggestions, as a group, we successfully determined the average human reaction time at the end of the lesson. We will learn more about scientific writing in tomorrow’s science lesson.  

本周，文婷老师用完形填空为科学术语搭建了简单的框架，并回顾了科学方法的概念和限制。随后，大家在老师的带领下，头脑风暴，着手调查课题。这次的研究课题为“人类的反应时间”。在经历了进行研究的各个阶段后，他们对实验设计的理念有了新的见解。在参照了实际例子中的实验过程后，大家开始动手进行了课题调查，用实验反复测试与确认他们自己的反应时间。两人一组，按照方法，轮流测量、记录落差距离。对实验结果进行记录和分析，并在老师的带领下进行讨论，找出错误和改进的方法。通过积极思考，大家都提出了很好的科学建议。最后，每个小组在课程结束时，都成功地确定了人类的平均反应时间。
