When Schools and families collaborate to support learning, research has shown that children do better academically, socially, and emotionally. How parents are involved with their child has a big impact on student success! Direct communication helps build strong school-family connections.

At NCIC-Immersion School, we look forward to establishing a school-family partnership, to support you and your child. What does parent involvement mean? How can you be involved as a parent? What are the benefits?

Parent involvement happens when there is collaboration between teacher and parents to support their child’s learning at home and at school. There are several ways that parents can be involved in their child’s learning both emotionally as well as, academically.

According to People for Education, an independent Canadian organization, parents who are involved in both Homebased activities as well as School based activities are the key to driving success! Here is a list of activities where parents can be involved:

When parents are involved in their child’s learning, both the child and parents benefit, in many ways:

• There is Improvement in grades

• Students develop social skills, positive behaviors and resilience

• There is a love for school and reduced absenteeism

• Students are more engaged in personal and academic growth

• Students reported higher self esteem

• There are improved communication skills between, students, teacher and parents

• There is a closer bond between parent and child

• Improved parental confidence about supporting their child

• Parents can support effectively their child’s emotional and academic needs

• There is better understanding of curriculum

• There is more parental involvement in decision making and helping their child achieve their goals

• Calmer interactions between child-parent

• Less stress for both child and parent

• Students are more receptive to adapting and developing a growth mindset
