联合国有六种官方语言：阿拉伯文、中文、英文、法文、俄文和西班牙文。为促进多种语言的使用和文化多样性的发展，联合国分别设立了六个语言日来庆祝每种语言的悠久历史与文化素养。

There are six official languages of The United Nations- Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish. To promote cultural diversity and multilingualism, the UN celebrates the history and literary culture of each official language on six separate days.

每年的四月二十日是中文日。联合国把中文日定在中国古代历法二十四个节气里的第六个节气 “谷雨”，是为了表达对仓颉的敬意。传说中仓颉有四只眼睛和四个瞳孔，当他造字成功时，出现了“天雨粟，鬼夜哭”的异象。

Chinese Language Day is celebrated annually on April 20. The date was selected by the UN from Guyu ("Rain of Millet"), which is the 6th of 24 solar terms in the traditional Chinese calendar in order to pay tribute to Cangjie, a legendary cultural hero in Chinese folklore who is credited with inventing the Chinese writing system. Legend has it that Cangjie had four eyes and four pupils, and that when he invented the characters, the deities and ghosts cried and the sky rained millet.

IB同样认为多语言的使用对培养学生的国际情怀十分重要，并强调学校应鼓励学生 “有自信地，创意地运用多种语言” 来表达自己。

The IB also considers that multilingualism has an important role in developing international mindedness and emphasizes that students should be encouraged to express themselves ‘confidently and creatively in more than one language’. 

IB对多语言能力的看法跟瑞士和欧盟执行委员会一样 － 所有语言的学习都是不可或缺的（学校、家庭、地方及曾经学过的语言）。在每一个IB项目课程中，IB都会明确指导学校和教育工作者如何处理、支持和表扬语言多样性。东华文泽学校举办各种活动来推广中国博大精深的语言文化，以展示我们重视多种语言能力的发展。

It is important to note that the IB views multilingualism the same way as Switzerland and the European Commission - all language learning is essential (school, home, local, and previously learned languages). In every IB programme, the IB gives clear guidance on how schools and educators can address, support and celebrate linguistic diversity. TWIS demonstrates how we value multilingualism by organizing various activities that promote our host country’s wonderful language.

为庆祝联合国中文日，TWIS将举办一系列活动以表达我们对中华文化的尊重与热爱。这次庆祝活动是首次在线举行，率先举办的前奏活动是由TWIS中文组老师从学生作品中挑选参加的“汉字书写比赛”。

In honour of UN Chinese Language Day, TWIS will be holding a series of activities to show our passion and appreciation of the Chinese culture. To kick off the celebration, for the first time ever virtually, TWIS Chinese department has selected some works from students to participate in the Chinese Writing Competition.
