不追求“饱学”不主张“鸡血”,我还是个合格的“海淀妈妈”吗? A H

虽然是一名“海淀妈妈”,但在育儿方面,我一不追求“饱学”,二不主张“鸡血”,只想看着孩子健康、快乐、有主见地长大。西边国际教育的匮乏,让我和先生一度产生搬家顺义的念头,焦虑和犹豫间,得知青苗开设海淀校区。几次探校沟通后,我和先生就认定了这正是我们所期待的学校,于是决定把孩子托付于此。

Unlike other ‘Haidian moms’, I want nothing but happiness, health and independent opinion for my child. West Beijing has been short of good international good international education options. My husband and I were even considering of moving to Shunyi, until we heard the opening of BIBS Haidian Academy. Decision was made after a few school visits.



 / Part One 

几番探校,我们全家都爱上了这里!

We all love here!

先说说这所学校是哪里这么快打动我们的吧!


招生老师向我们详细介绍学校课程后,带我们参观校园,开阔明朗的教室、色彩丰富的装饰,随处可见孩子们充满创意的作业展示。隔着每间教室的玻璃窗,我们能看到的课堂都是老师温柔的笑脸和孩子求知若渴的眼神。走廊上我们遇见了年轻的Caleb校长,他热情地接待了我们,并意气风发地为我们介绍学校,描述他心目中的教育理想……这次探校,无论是校长眼里的“星星”,还是教室里洋溢的欢乐,都给我和先生留下了深刻的印象。


众所周知,师资的严格把关和培训,是一所学校的关键。一名好的老师甚至能够改变孩子一生,相信这点很多父母都有同感。因此我们第二次探校特意带女儿来认识她未来的班主任Mrs. Charmaine,与其说是师生,她们更像是两个老朋友!看着她们从学习到世界认知再到兴趣爱好,简直无所不谈,我们作家长深感意外,也充满惊喜!孩子也正是从那天开始就爱上了这里……


再说说课程吧,以培养孩子探究精神和批判思维的IB课程深得我心!主题探究,鼓励孩子全面发展、勇于尝试、及时反思,让孩子们习惯创新并认同自我。我和先生都相信这些对于孩子的成长,以及不可确定的未来都有重要的意义。


总而言之,几番探校,青苗不仅是我和先生最为信赖和认可的学校,也是女儿Cherry最向往、最期待的学校。

Let’s talk about what moved us.

 

After a brief introduction of the school curriculum, we were taken on a campus tour. The classrooms, student uniform and their creative works on display attracted us immediately. There were smiles on students’ and teachers’ faces in every classroom we looked at. And we ran into the young principal Caleb, who warmly received us and introduced his campus and his education philosophy. The visit was impressive and pleasant for both me and m husband.

 

As we all know, teacher quality and training standards make a good school. A good teacher makes change to students’ life. The second visit was to introduce my daughter to her future homeroom teacher Mrs. Charmaine. They became friends right away! From learning to interests, they had so much in common. It was a nice surprise to me and I’d like to think my daughter fell in love with her new school on that day.

 

About curriculum, I’m a strong believer of the IB inquiry-based spirit and critical thinking. Themed inquiry encourages holistic development, risk taking and reflection, and help students with creative thinking and self-consciousness. My husband and I agree that these are qualities my daughter will need for her future academic career and life.

 

In conclusion, BIBS Haidian Academy was the school my husband and I trust, and the school my Cherry longs for.

我们想要的教育,是让孩子回归生活本身,

感受真正的爱与成长。

The education we wanted for our daughter is about life itself.

以前在公立学校,听到最多的是:“这个作业或小报,请大家周末完成。” 但在青苗,老师们说的最多的是:“这个‘项目’,我们需要小组一起来完成探究和学习。”


大家知道,团队作业需要约定统一的时间并且需要较强的沟通协调能力,也很考验小组领导者的管理能力,比如需要做好小组个人分工、内容整合等方面。以完成一个“项目”的态度来完成作业,这样的方式却总能让女儿和她的同学兴奋不已,看着他们全身心的投入学习和讨论,我明白,团队合作、协商共赢的种子其实已经渐渐种在他们的心里。


得益于这样的锻炼,我们全家也受益不少,在Cherry的倡导下,现在每周五我们会有一个小小的家庭会议,讨论一周以来的学习、工作和生活,分享有趣的故事和经历,反思哪里可以提升和改进。我和先生常常感慨,这才是我们一直以来想要的教育,让孩子从刷题的机器重新回归生活本身,感受真正的爱与成长。

In public schools it was always about finishing homework and reports during the weekends. But in BIBS, teachers talk about projects to be inquired and researched together. Teamwork requires leadership with communication and coordination skills, such as distributing duties and integrating results etc. My daughter and her classmates were always excited to finish their homework as projects. Looking at their devoted research and discussion, I know the little seeds of teamwork spirit and group efforts have already been planted.

 

It was a good thing for our family to. Now Cherry hosts a family meeting every Friday to discuss our weekly learning, working and life plans. We share interesting stories and re-think what could have been done better. This is the education we want for our daughter, that she gets to learn about life itself and feel the true love and grow-up.

大胆放手让孩子“折腾”,

孩子其实完全有能力管理好自己的生活!

Let Cherry manage her own life.

女儿在青苗一段时间后,小脑袋里也有了更多的主见和想法。有一天她放学回家对我说:“妈妈我想重新设计下我的房间,今天Mrs. Charmaine (G6班主任)和我们讨论了家的主题。我突然有个好主意.....”我们当然百分百支持,周末时间全家出动大采购。然后女儿把自己关在屋子里,听着音乐,归纳整理收拾了整整两天,最后的成果让我和先生着实惊喜了一番。我还特意把这次成果做成了微视频,向好友们分享好好地表扬了Cherry一番,听到夸奖以后,女儿自我管理的信心更加提升了。 


父母在生活中总是为孩子包办代替,这会使孩子形成“只要我不愿意做的事情,父母就会帮我去做”的意识。放手孩子自己的事情自己做,尊重他们自己的决定,鼓励他们自我意识苏醒,让孩子意识到,自己有能力管理自己的生活。我和先生相信,在家校合作共同激励下,孩子可以越来越好地管理自己的生活。


这次疫情期间,从安装软件到制定课表包括zoom课堂链接,以及seesaw的作业上传都是女儿自己完成的。看到她给每堂课设立闹钟的时候,欣慰之余我真的非常感谢青苗海淀校区的老师们,因为他们的循循善诱,支持和鼓励孩子的自我管理,帮助他们找到自主寻求解决问题的理念,为女儿的成长提供了正确指引。

Cherry has developed so many new ideas since she started with BIBS. One day she came home and told me she wanted to re-do her room and she already had some ideas after discussing with Mrs. Charmaine. Of course I was supportive. We went shopping during the weekend and didn’t disturb Cherry for two days while she kept herself busy in her room with music on. And it turned out surprisingly good. We even made a short video and shared it with our friends. Our compliments gave Cherry a lot of confidence too.

 

Many parents tend to do everything for their children. I think we have to let go cerntain things and allow our children to make decision for themselves. They can only gain the ability to manage their own life when their decisions are respected and self-awarenesses are encouraged.

 

During the virus outbreak, from installing Zoom to finish homework on Seesaw, Cherry took care of her own studying. I’m very grateful for the guidance and support Cherry has received from her BIBS teachers.

I’ve been very happy the changes since Cherry started in interantional school. But every family’s education concept is different and the above is only my humble opinion. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on how to better education our children.
