Dear Parents and Students,

亲爱的学生们、家长们:

 

Personal, Social and Health Education (also known as PSHE) is an important aspect of the curriculum at LEH-Foshan and we know that children who are emotionally healthy do better at school. Learning in PSHE this week has focussed on the importance of attention in and outside of lessons, we examined the impact of multitasking and questioned whether it was possible to multitask at all. Through self-reflection, students were able to gauge their levels of attention within the classroom environment and learn new skills to help them improve this.


在佛山LEH,我们注重学生的个人、公民以及健康教育(英文简称为PSHE),并将其作为孩子们学习课程中一个重要的组成部分,因为我们深知,情绪健康的孩子更容易获得学业上的成功。本周PSHE课程的学习重点是:注意力在课堂内外的重要性。我们探讨了“多重任务处理”对人的影响,并对于人是否真的能够“一心多用”提出疑问并进行讨论。通过自我反思,学生们能够判断自己在课堂环境中的注意力水平,并通过学习新的技巧来提升自己的注意力。

 

Helping to build positive self-esteem

Everyone learns differently, for some, new tasks and skills might not come as easily. Self-esteem is tied to how children and young people value themselves and how capable they feel. If your child has finds new learning challenging or has specific additional support needs, you might worry that this will lead to your child having more negative feelings towards his or her learning.


每个人的学习方式都不一样,而新任务和新技能对于部分学生来说往往并不那么容易完成和掌握。儿童以及年轻人如何评价自我,对自己的能力是否肯定,与他们的自尊密切相关。如果您的孩子觉得新的学习充满挑战或需要额外的帮助,您可能会担心这将导致您的孩子对学习感到厌倦。

 

Rest assured that your child’s teachers are highly experienced in recognising a young person’s struggles and supporting students in their care. Your child has a dedicated personal tutor, and time is set aside on a regular basis to discuss any challenges arising, whether these are academic or social in nature.


请您放心,我们的老师善于察觉孩子们是否需要额外的帮助并将及时给他们提供必要的支持。您的孩子有专门的导师,他们会定期与您的孩子进行谈话,了解他们是否遇到困难。不管是学习上的还是生活中的难题,导师们都会给孩子们提供指导。

 

If you are looking for ways to support your child to build positive self-esteem, you may like to start by being supportive and realistic. Keeping in mind your child’s current ability and setting realistic expectations with them, can help to boost your child’s self-image and help your child find ways to feel valued. Be sure to keep your praise specific. (“I think it’s great that you asked for help from your teacher.”) and be sure to cheer on your child’s efforts in a way that supports self-esteem and self-evaluation. (“I saw how hard you studied for that test. Way to go!”).


帮助孩子建立正面积极的自尊,需要家长从实际出发,在日常生活中提供支持。家长对孩子的期望切合他们当前的实际能力,有利于提高孩子的自我形象,帮助孩子们感受到自我价值。表扬孩子时,您可以以具体事实为出发点,比方说:“我很高兴你主动寻求老师的帮助”。如果您的孩子正在努力完成某件事情,您可以给予肯定以及鼓励,比如:“我知道你正在努力地为考试做准备,加油!” 。这些做法都将有效帮助他们建立自尊和自我肯定。


Remember you do not have to do it all alone. You also do not have to have all the answers. Teaching children and young people to self-advocate, or to seek out and ask for help on their own, can also help you feel more confident and less worried. Please do reach out to your child’s Pastoral Tutor where you need to. Ms Jones or Mr Cowan will be happy to arrange an appointment with you.


帮助儿童和年轻人建立积极自尊的另一有效途径,是引导孩子说出自己的需求,学会主动寻求外界的帮助。通过这种方法,家长的担忧也能得到有效的缓解。如您想要获得更多这方面的信息,请联系您孩子的导师:Ms Jones女士或Mr Cowan先生,他们都很乐意安排时间与您进行交流。
