Grade 5 Inquires Into 

Ancient and Modern Technologies 

目前,五年级所学的探究性单元为“我们处于什么时空”,其中一项的学习内容是关于古今科技。

Grade 5's current PYP unit of inquiry is Where We Are in Place and Time and one of the things that the students are learning is about ancient and modern technologies.  

9月23日,五年级学生前往东莞科学技术博物馆进行研学。通过现场的探索,学生们了解到现代科技知识及其日常生活的运用,他们还IB学习者属性付诸实践,比如成为探索者和思考者,将我们所学的古代科技与现代科技进行对比和关联。

On Thursday, 23rd of September, Grade 5 went to Dongguan Science and Technology Museum.  Through this trip, the children learned more about modern technology and the ways that it helps us in our daily lives. The students put into practice some of the IB learner profile attributes like being inquirers and thinkers whilst comparing and contrasting and making connections to what we have learned about ancient technology.    


在进行研学的前一天,学生们观察古代指南针之时,完成了一个名为“观察、思考、探索”的思维图表,呈现着他们的观点、想法和疑问。令学生们感到惊叹的是,第二天他们在博物馆看到了真实的古代指南针。

The day before our field trip, students completed a visible thinking routine chart called 'See, Think, and Wonder' observing an ancient compass. It was wonderful to see their ideas, thoughts and questions about it. Also, to the students' great surprise, they saw the ancient compass in the museum.  


在参观博物馆期间,学生们还观望了近代发明,如旧手机和旧电脑等,以及先进的现代科技,如机器狗、跳舞机器人和烹饪机器等。学生们运用想象力建立了许多关联,并向工作人员提问。在回到学校后,他们完成了反思,分享了一些旅行的亮点和提出进一步的疑问。这次美妙的研学之旅为我们的学生提供了成为思考者和探究者的机会。

During our time in the museum, students observed ancient inventions (the compass, old phones and computers) as well as modern technology such as a dog robot, dancing robots, and a cooking robot. They made many connections, asked questions to the staff and upon our return to school, they completed a reflection where they shared some of the trip’s highlights and their further questions. It was a wonderful trip and it sure helped our students become thinkers and inquirers.

MYP中学游戏之夜

MYP Game Night

9月24日,标志着新学期第一个月学习的结束,也是在这个月里,TWIS荣获了国际文凭组织的IBDP官方授权。以此为契机,TWIS为所有的中学生举办了校内首场“游戏之夜”的活动,包括拼字游戏、“大富翁”(口袋妖怪版)、电子游戏,还有舞蹈!

September 24th marked the completion of our first month of school during which TWIS received its accreditation from the International Baccalaureate Organization. On that occasion, TWIS held its very first GAME NIGHT event for all secondary school students. The activities took place on the top floor of building 4 and catered to all kinds of ‘gamers’. It ranged from Scrabble and Monopoly (Pokemon edition) to table tennis with, of course, some video games and exciting group dancing.  


学生还可以在DP学习间里观看与游戏相关的电影。让人备感欣慰的是,来自不同年级的学生与老师一起玩乐和交流,建立了更为密切的关系。

Students who got tired could also watch movies related to games in the repurposed DP space. The great thing was to see students from different grades and their teachers playing along and communicating, thus building stronger connections.  


这次活动是关爱全面学习者在课堂之外的幸福感和建设校园文化的完美体现。九年级和十年级学生借此机会组织义卖活动,义卖鸡翅、鱼蛋等美食,为本地红十字会筹集资金,这也是他们“服务即行动”项目的一部分。

The event was a perfect example of the importance of being balanced learners by taking care of students' well-being outside of the classroom, as well as building our school spirit. Grade 9 and 10 students took this opportunity to organize and deliver a food sale in order to raise money for the local Red Cross as part of their Service as Action program. Their freshly-cooked chicken wings, fish balls and other delicacies are sold in no time. 


几乎所有的学生都积极参加其中,活动取得了圆满成功。深知学生的期盼之心,毫无疑问,TWIS未来还会有更多的MYP游戏之夜!

The event was a huge success with almost all students attending and for most of them closing time was too early. No doubt that MYP GAME NIGHT will be back in the future and we have heard students wishing for a complete lock-in event.

国际和平日

International Peace Day

为了增强学生的国际思维,TWIS在国际和平日这一天开展了各式各样的活动,以表达我们的学生对塑造一个更为和平的世界的承诺。

In recognizing that our students should be internationally-minded, TWIS commemorated  International Day of  Peace by engaging MYP students in various activities. Here are some of the activities that were carried out to express our students’ commitment in shaping a more peaceful world. 


在课堂上,学生运用不同的语言书写“和平”,绘制“和平”符号,制作和平鸽图像,并与MYP高年级学生讨论在疫情恢复之际拥护和平的重要性。除此之外,学生们还学习了卡尔霍恩的和平诗句。

Students were learning to hand-write PEACE in different languages, drawing and painting symbols of peace and making a fingerprint dove display, discussing with upper-MYP pupils on the importance of making peace with one another as the world tries to recover from the devastation of the pandemic. In addition, students learned a poem on Peace by C. Calhoun.


通过国际和平日的课程,我们期望青年一代能够传播同情心、善良和希望,让世界变得更为公平、包容,和更具可持续性。

Through our lessons on International Day of Peace, we are counting on our youth to spread compassion, kindness, and hope for a more equitable, inclusive, sustainable, and healthier world.
