TWIS参展东莞圣诞节庆

TWIS Be Merry at DG Christmas Festival


本周六,TWIS学生和老师前往东莞33小镇与当地社区共同庆祝多姿多彩的圣诞节庆。数十个来自不同行业的商铺和不同区域的国际学校,组成了热闹非凡的现场,而TWIS的小小音乐家和舞蹈家还在节庆的舞台上进行了精彩绝伦的表演,让现场掌声不断。TWIS预祝大家圣诞节快乐!

Last Saturday, TWIS participated for the first time in Dongguan Christmas Festival. Dozens of booths from different industries and international schools from different districts constitute the extraordinarily bustling scene. Our students’ performances were simply amazing! We thank the teachers, staff and parents who came to support our young musicians and dancers.

何以培养终身读者?

Developing Life-long Readers 

我们时常被问及如何让学生对阅读持有恒久的热情与兴趣其实答案很简单——让学生感受到读书让人受益匪浅。阅读可以成为一项充满乐趣的存在,并让学生对书籍爱不释手。

We have been asked again and again how we make students get excited about reading. The answer is quite simple - we make a big deal out of it! We make reading a fun and exciting pursuit that students would not want to let go of a book until they reach the last page. 

以一个典型的教学为例。在MYP中学英语语言和文学课上,学生们最近涉足文学圈,他们在讨论书籍时被分配了不同的角色,轮流成为主持人、单词大师、段落分配官、编辑和插画家。这些不断变化的角色让学生有机会从不同的角度了解书中内容。 同时,TWIS还设有读书会,地点定于轻松的场合,于此,学生被鼓励着积极参与讨论,和分享他们对于故事情节和人物的想法和观点。

A case in point: In our MYP English language and literature class, students recently engaged in literature circles wherein they are assigned different roles during their book discussion. Students took turns becoming discussion directors, word masters, passage pickers, connectors and illustrators. These changing roles gave our students opportunities to engage with their books from different perspectives. In addition, our book meetings are held in comfortable places that inspire students to participate in the discussion and share what their ideas and opinions are regarding the plot or the characters. 

还有另外一个主题的案例,在《托雷利奶奶煮汤(Granny Torrelli Makes Soup)》一书中,主人公托雷利奶奶在做饭时传授了智慧。在写完关于友谊、智慧、妒忌和关系网等概念的配方诗后,学生从社区花园里摘取了一些新鲜的植物,并尝试做了肉丸子意面和青酱意面。这种由书籍衍生出来的活动让学生们体验到了烹饪的艺术,并了解到食物是如何被用以推进沟通与交流的。

One major theme in Granny Torrelli Makes Soup is wisdom, which Granny Torrelli imparts on the characters while she's cooking. After writing their own recipe poems on the concepts of friendship, wisdom, jealousy, and relationships, we harvested some fresh herbs from our community garden and had a go at cooking spaghetti with meatballs and pasta pesto. This activity, coming from books, allows students to experience the art of cooking and learn how food encourages and enhances communication. PYP学院运动会

PYP House Games


上周,MYP学生在田径场和体育馆里不遗余力地为他们所在的学院争取积分,这周轮到我们PYP学生了。从田径赛跑、跳远、海绵火箭比远等运动中,学生们互相鼓励、建立信任,通过团队合作帮助学院获取分数。更重要的是,他们在阳光下尽情享受着运动的乐趣。

Last week, our MYP students showed grit and determination in the field and gym in order to earn House points. This week it’s our PYP students' turn. From running, jumping and sponge rocket competitions, students encouraged each other to build trust, and helped the house gain points through teamwork. What’s more, they enjoyed active play under the sun!

开启游戏时刻

Let the Games Begin!

学生们总是对电子游戏充满兴趣,因此他们决定去研究、创造和设计自己的游戏。开始之时,他们创造了一个主题为“游戏先生是我的老师”的演示文稿,为与电子游戏相关的问题寻找答案,由此发现了Scratch应用程序。


兴趣使然,学生乐于运用空闲时间研究此应用程序,学习着如何创建富有教育意义的游戏。除此之外,他们学会了如何使用这一程序摄制动画。一位叫Coco的六年级学生分享说《哈利波特》是她最喜欢的游戏,她希望当她成为专业的游戏开发者时,她有能力创出同样的游戏。

Students are always extremely interested in video games, so they decided to research, create and design their own games. Initially, they created “Mr. Game is my new teacher” presentations where students find answers to their questions about video games. Then they discovered the Scratch application. 


The Scratch app became their passion during their free time. They have learned how to create educational games. Furthermore, they have learned how to shoot animations using the same application. Sixth-grader Coco considers Harry Potter her favorite game, and she believes she can be capable of creating the same kind of games when she becomes a professional game developer one day.

TWIS社区共享花园

Community Garden at TWIS

园艺是研究生活的学科。看似照料土壤和植物的简单行为,实际上为孩子了解出生、生长、成熟、死亡、竞争、合作等原理和其他课程的学习奠定了基础。在这一学期,六年级的学生在TWIS农场的种植区帮忙收集落叶并将其放入户外的堆肥箱,与此同时,七年级至十年级的学生到学校顶层的社区共享花园帮忙除草。

Gardening is the study of life. The simple act of caring for living soil and plants gives our students a foundation for understanding the principles of birth, growth, maturity, death, competition, cooperation and many other lessons that transfer to human lives. In this semester, G6 students have been weeding at the school farm and managing the hot-compost bin, while G7-G10 offered their help at the community garden on the top floor.

TWIS学生能够在花园中感受他们在课堂上学到的知识,而不是只从书中欣赏大自然。同时,花园不仅仅是另一个绿色空间,还是可动手实践的户外教室,可以教会学生自我调节和冥想——两者都可以减少焦虑和抑郁。将来,TWIS欢迎社区的其他成员,例如父母,加入改善农场的活动。

Rather than just appreciating nature via pictures on books, our students are able to authentically see what they learn in the classroom to feel it in the garden amongst the soil, insects and plants. Gardens are more than just another green space: they’re hands-on, outdoor classrooms that teach students self-regulation and mindfulness—both of which have been shown to decrease anxiety and depression. In the future, other members of the community such as parents would be welcomed to join in activities to improve the farm.

Curriculum In Action

家长是如何获得对IB课程体系的理解的?在TWIS,我们举行了“开放日”活动,即为期三天的“课程活动日”,家长们被邀请参加他们孩子的课程,体验经典的探究式学习情境。这次,PYP小学部的家长与孩子一起参加的特别课程包括音乐、视觉艺术、信息与计算机技术、体育和中文等。此外,五年级在学习大会上展示了关于古代文明的学习成果,成为舞台的亮点,TWIS很欣慰地看到学生探究和思考着这些文明是如何影响到现代社会方方面面的。 

How do our parents gain an understanding of the IB system? We organize ‘open days’ we call Curriculum In Action (CIA) days. Parents are invited to attend their children’s classes and experience a typical inquiry-based learning engagement. This time, the parents joined the PYP specialist classes: music, visual arts, ICT, physical education and Chinese languages. In addition, Grade 5 took center stage as they present their learning on ancient civilizations at the Celebration of Learning Assembly. The school community appreciated the research and reflection that students put into learning how these civilizations have influenced our modern societies.
