国际母语日:共同守护语言文化多样性 Linguistic and Cultural Diversity at TWIS

2 月 21 日,东华文泽学校与世界各地一同庆祝了国际母语日。尊崇语言与文化多样性的TWIS在确保学生掌握母语的同时,鼓励学生学习多种语言。在此,大多数精通双语或三语以上的教职工都是学生学习的榜样。沉浸式的语言环境,令TWIS的学生朝着通晓三种语言以上的方向发展,而不仅仅是一两种。


Last Monday, 21st February, TWIS celebrated International Mother Language Day along with the rest of the world.  This is an event close to our hearts as we place great importance on maintaining linguistic and cultural diversity and developing the languages that our students come with, at the same time ensuring that our students acquire additional languages while at TWIS.  As most of our staff are either bilinguals or trilinguals, our students are surrounded by great role models. We are proud of the commitment and efforts of our students who are on their way to speaking not one, not two but at least three languages!

在国际母语日庆祝大会上,一年级学生用悦耳的声音歌唱了《和全世界的儿童说你好(Hello to All the Children of the World)》,通过歌曲中各式各样的语言问候观众并以此拉开了国际母语日的帷幕。你知道吗?在TWIS的校园里有15种语言,例如英语、中文、希腊语、意大利语、葡萄牙语、法语、塞尔维亚语、阿拉伯语等等,来自不同国家的学生和老师逐一为观众介绍他们的母语,并将学校的使命、愿景和价值观翻译成多种语言。


The program begins with the first graders greeting us 'hello' in many languages with their catchy song 'Hello to All the Children of the World'. You know what? There are 15 languages spoken at TWIS! Each language such as English, Chinese, Greek, Italian, Portuguese, French, Serbian, Arabic, was presented by students and teachers. Our mission, vision and values statement is translated in these languages as well.

七年级学生Chael演绎了《同一个世界,同一首歌(One World, One Song)》,他不仅教会了我们如何用不同的语言说“我爱你”,还强调了我们应学会爱与被爱,爱是治愈一切困苦的良药。除此之外,丰富的表演也展示了我们如何在日常课程中促进多语言和文化多样性的发展同时,学生运用多种语言自信地表达自我,展现着善于沟通的IB学习者属性。


Seventh-grader Chael rendered 'One World, One Song' which not only taught us how to say 'I love you' in different languages but left us with this powerful message: We are all here to be more loving and to be loved more. Our only resolve to help the ailing world is love. The rest of the performances demonstrated how we are promoting multilingualism and an awareness of the strengths of diversity in our day-to-day curriculum. The presentations are testimonies of how our students are developing the IB learner profile of being good communicators who can express themselves confidently and creatively in more than one language and in many ways! Well done TWIS students!

Supportive Language Learning Environment 


语言既是沟通交流的工具,也是思维的工具,语言所带来的文化属性丰富着学生对于世界的认识,促进其跨文化思维的发展。当东华文泽学校在2021年12月获得MYP中学项目的授权时,IBO组织对TWIS的语言学习环境给予了以下三项特定的表彰:


Language is both a tool for communication and a tool for thinking, and the cultural attributes that come with language enrich students' understanding of the world and promote the development of their cross-cultural minds. When TWIS received its authorization for the Middle Years Programme (MYP) in December 2021, the IB gave three commendations specific to language learning:
