I hope you enjoy talking to your children about their swimming lessons which have taken place this week. All the students are learning essential lifesaving skills, something that even new swimmers can acquire quickly. The swimming ECA has proved popular and as a swimmer myself, I am very much looking forward to seeing a school competition team emerge.

本周学校的游泳课已全面开课，相信孩子们也与您分享了这一好消息。本学期孩子们将重点学习救生技能，这是游泳新手也能快速学会的重要技能。课外活动期间的游泳选项也大受欢迎。我本人也很喜欢游泳，相信很快我们就能组成自己的游泳校队！

Yesterday, Mrs Jones shared some helpful tips and ideas on how to support your children’s studies. Many of you have shared your frustration with me about wanting to help your children but not exactly knowing how. There is always a fine balance to be found as a parent or guardian in how much independence we give to teenagers. Even our year 6 students will now be studying topics which you may not be fully familiar with!

昨天，Mrs Jones通过线上座谈会分享了如何全方位增长学习技能。很多家长曾与我分享他们的担忧，他们非常希望能在学习上更多地帮助到孩子，但却始终不得其法。其实，家长和监护人需要在青少年独立性的这个问题上找到最佳平衡。毕竟，就算是六年级的孩子，他们目前所学的一些内容也可能已经超出了家长们熟知的范围。

I would always recommend balance; over the short holiday find time as a family to enjoy each other’s company as well as encouraging your child to do some studying for upcoming examinations. Remember, we are always here to help and support you the parents.

劳逸结合非常重要。在短暂的五一假期中，希望大家能在享受家人彼此陪伴的同时，鼓励孩子们为即将到来的期末考试做好复习。请放心，作为学校，我们非常愿意为您提供更多支持和帮助。

Making routines helps them to adopt the correct mindset. Give your children a place and time to work is an essential first step. Then don’t try and adopt every idea you might have learned from the online sessions, just try out one until you feel comfortable and then maybe add another.

建立固定的学习时间表会帮助孩子们树立正确的学习态度。合适的学习地点和时间便是其中的第一步。您无需采用所有座谈会上分享过的建议，我们更建议您根据自己的节奏和实际情况，逐步尝试您觉得适合孩子的方法。

School will finish at 15:40 on Friday 29 April and resumes on Tuesday 3 May. Boarders are welcome to return from 16:00 to19:30 on Monday 2 May. However, supper will not be available on this day so please make your own arrangement. Please kindly note, thanks.

4月29日（本周五）放学时间是15点40分，随即开启五一劳动节假期。学校将于5月3日开学。寄宿生可于5月2日16点至19点30分返校，但这一天学校不供应晚餐，敬请知悉。

In accordance with Foshan's current covid restrictions, students returning to school will need to present their green health code, green itinerary code and have their temperature checked at the school entrance. If their itinerary code has an asterisk, they will also need to present a 48-hr covid test negative result, thank you. The covid prevention measures might change and we will endeavour to keep parents updated as soon as we are aware of any change.

依照佛山最新的防疫政策，学生返校时需出示绿色健康码、行程码，并在校门口进行体温登记后方可进入校园。如学生的行程码带星号，需同时出示48小时内核酸阴性报告。如防疫政策有所变动，我们将及时通知家长。

The start of this term has seen the much-anticipated opening of the swimming pool. At 25m long with 6 lanes the swimming pool is the perfect environment for pupils to develop a range of water-based skills including lifesaving and personal water safety, competitive swimming strokes and water polo.

学生和家长们期待已久的游泳池已在本学期正式开放。游泳池总长度25米，共有6条泳道，这将成为孩子们发展水上运动技能的完美场地。目前，学校提供的活动项目包括救生与水上安全、竞技游泳及水球。

To enable the development of their water-based skills it is essential for pupils to attend all PE lessons with the correct equipment:

• House rash vest (more information will be shared shortly)

• LEH swimming cap

• Towel (essential as these are not issued)

On Friday, the corridors of the fifth floor were filled with the exhilarating buzz that only comes with our annual Spelling Bee! Students from years 6 -10 competed for a place in our final to become Queen (or King) Bee!

本周五，教学楼五楼的走廊热闹非凡，因为我们正在举行一年一度的单词拼写大赛。6 -10 年级学生们满怀冲劲，积极参加。谁能在决赛中占一席之地，并成为拼写之星呢？让我们拭目以待！

Congratulations to the following students for making it through Round 1!

The final will be taken place on Thursday, 5th May in the Assembly Hall from 13.00. Two students from each year group will compete in the final, and the final three will receive medals and house points. The final will consist of Two Bee words (that have not been used) and Three Bee words; these will be from a pre-selected list.

决赛将于下周四（5月5日）下午一点在礼堂举行。每个年级将派出2位同学参加决赛，最终获胜的三位同学将获得奖牌以及学院积分。决赛的词汇将包括中级和高级两个难度，其中中级难度词汇是之前没有使用过的，而高级难度词汇则会从预选题库中抽取。

After preparing and practising lots of problem solving questions years 6, 7 and 8 finally sat the Junior Maths Challenge last week. The students were well prepared and excited to compete. The online test lasted for an hour and most students worked tirelessly throughout in order to complete the 25 questions set. Results should be available by June and we will let students know as soon as we have them. Well done to everyone who participated and special thanks to Miss Pritchard who organised the Junior event.

在准备和练习了大量的解题方法后，6、7、8年级的学生们终于在上周参加了少年数学挑战赛。学生们做好了充分的准备，并对比赛的到来感到非常兴奋和激动。在线数学测试持续了一个小时，学生们迎难而上，认真完成了25个数学问题。比赛结果将于6月份出来，我们会在结果出来后尽快告知学生。非常感谢每一位参赛者，并特别感谢努力组织此次活动的Miss Pritchard。

Logical thinking is one of the objectives of the Maths curriculum at LEH-Foshan and the UKMT asked students some thought provoking questions, ask your children to discuss ideas and possible solutions for these problems.

培养学生的逻辑思维能力是佛山霍利斯数学课程的重要教学目标。以下几个关于逻辑思维的问题出自于英国数学竞赛（UKMT），请家长们鼓励自己的孩子认真思考，开动脑筋，找出问答案！

This week the Art Department took Year 7 and 8 students to the Nanfung Kiln and Shiwan Ceramic Museum. Students really enjoyed discovering the history of the Nanfeng Dragon Kiln and Ancient village. The Dragon Kilns are 501 years old and are still in operation today!

本周，七、八年级的学生在艺术学科主任Ms Hayward的带领下参观了南风古灶以及石湾陶瓷博物馆。学生们都非常享受本次旅程，他们参观了已经有501年历史并还依然在运作的龙窑，以及探索了古村落的历史。

At the Shiwan Art Museum students researched and drew pieces of traditional and contemporary Shiwanware (ceramics made in Foshan). Year 7 focussed on Natural Forms and Year 8 Still-Life and Vessels; this research will inform their current school art projects where they will be designing and making hand built ceramic pieces.

在石湾陶瓷博物馆，学生们对传统及当代石湾陶瓷进行了研究，并且亲手制作了自己的陶瓷作品。七年级学生主要对陶瓷的自然形态进行研究，而八年级学生则重点关注静物与船只，这将为他们后续在学校的艺术课上设计与制作陶艺作品提供很好的帮助。

Students experimented with making different shaped vessels on the pottery wheels and much fun was had getting messy!

学生们尝试在陶轮上制作不同形状的器皿，乐趣无穷！
