We are nearing the end of term, but school is still a hive of activity. You will see that there are many activities to keep the students engaged in their learning as well as showcasing the progress they have made.


虽然已经临近期末,但忙碌的校园生活依旧继续着。正如你所见,近期学校依然在举行各种活动,希望借此保持学生们对学习的热情,以及展示他们本学年的学习成果。


Our Year 11s have been out and about helping staff with lots of jobs and also attending taster lessons for their A Level subjects. This is a great way for them to prepare themselves for the new academic year. I will be introducing to them the IPQ (Independent Project Qualification) This is very well received by universities around the world and is equivalent to a whole A Level. Universities like this qualification because it allows students to demonstrate their passion for learning and it also moves students beyond the constraints of the taught curriculum. The project also gives them a first taste of what research is and the core skills required. If students wish to study for an IPQ, they will be asked to write a letter of application to Mrs. Kirk for consideration in September.

For our younger students they will be given a simplified version of the IPQ called Hope Favours the Bold. All students in years 6 to 9 will undertake this summer project and receive a guide booklet to help them, so please do talk to them about how much time they will need to dedicate to their project. I am very much looking forward to seeing what amazing results they come back to school with. Parents will be invited into school to view the very best Hope Favours the Bold projects in September. Students in year 10 will be given work by each subject teacher to make sure that they review work studied. For some, they may need to fill some gaps and others may wish to further develop their understanding or practice key skills.

In the last week of term, we will be working with the Globe theatre, London who will launch our very first Shakespeare Week.  This is a hugely exciting honour for the school, as we will be the first school in the GBA to host such an event. Actors from the Globe will give our students a tour of the theatre via a live broadcast. They will then engage the students in workshops which will develop their understanding of Shakespeare’s most famous plays.

The staff across the school will continue to develop the students’ understanding through subject related activities, which will enhance the social, cultural and emotional element of their writing. For our IGCSE students, this will support and enhance their examination preparation.


全校教职员工将继续组织与筹划各类与学科相关的活动来培养学生的理解力,加强他们对社会及文化的理解和共情能力。这些活动有助于IGCSE学生们对考试做好充足的准备。

Friday 1 July will be the last school day before summer. This will be a prize giving and celebration day which will finish at 1pm.

The academic year of 2022-2023 will begin on Wednesday 31 August.

This week we have met many parents and much of the conversation has been about how to extend and nurture interest in furthering the students understanding of mathematics, that is Mathematics – beyond the classroom: One way is to read outside of the curriculum and appreciate how mathematics affects every aspect of everyday life.


本周有很多家长向我们询问如何在课堂外培养孩子们对数学的兴趣。其中一个有效的方法是多进行课外阅读以及多留心观察数学对我们日常生活的影响。


The first formula, used in trigonometry and also called the Euler identity, says

where e is the base of the natural logarithm and i is the square root of−1

Euler's Identity, is both stunning in its beauty and deceiving in its simplicity. For those unfamiliar with the symbols, here it refers to Euler’s Number, the base of the natural logarithm and equal to approximately 2.718, and i refers to the imaginary number. Even if this equation looks like nonsense, take a moment to revel in the fact that with just seven symbols Euler's identity manages to link five of the most important yet seemingly disparate constants in mathematics. It is beyond me to adequately describe in words the profundity of the connections within mathematics that this identity encapsulates so I leave it to those much more qualified. The great physicist Richard Feynman said one of the most remarkable, almost astounding, formulas in all of mathematics" and mathematics professor Keith Devlin remarked that like a "painting that brings out the beauty of the human form that is far more than just skin deep, Euler's Equation reaches down into the very depths of existence." Now if that doesn't send chills up your spine I'd check your pulse.

Some of our students at LEH Foshan show great ability in mathematics and I hope that they will start to independently look at maths outside the classroom and enjoy the remarkable discoveries and theories outside of the school curriculum.

Eric Yr 6 Math Olympiad

6年级Eric参加奥数


One Y6 student sat his Olympiad challenge on Wednesday. He had 2 hours to complete a set of short questions followed by extended questions where the solution needed to be logically and legibly shown. He attempted every question, and we eagerly await the results. In class he shared some of the questions and methods of solution with his peers.


一名六年级学生本周三参加奥林匹克数学竞赛。本次考试历时2个小时,需要完成两个部分,第一部分则为简答题,第二部分的答题则需包含完整的运算过程和解题思路。他尽自己的努力回答了所有题目,我们非常期待他的最终成绩!此外,他还在课堂上与班级同学分享了一些问题的解题思路。



Pre-Sixth Form Lunch

11年级和13年级学生午餐会


On Wednesday some of the Year 11 students had an informal lunch with the new A level student (Scarlett) who will be joining us in September. Scarlett is very busy completing Yr12 work online but she took a moment out of her day to meet her new peers. All of the students had a great chat and Scarlett was able to tell them how much work they will need to complete next year if they are to reach the standard required to get offers from top UK universities.


本周三,部分11 年级的学生与 9 月即将加入我们的新学生共进午餐。她即将踏入A Level阶段,虽然每天都忙于12年级的线上作业,但她非常开心能够与我们的11年级学生一起吃饭。在吃饭过程中,她向11年级学生们分享了如果想要获取知名英国大学的录取通知书,他们在下一学年需要付出更多的努力工作。



Art - Artist of May

艺术 – 五月艺术之星


We have so very many talented artists at LEH and as ever it has been difficult to choose May’s Artists of the Month, so for May the award goes to three of our students for their outstanding sculptural work. Congratulations to two Year 7 students, who win the award for their papier-mache animal shoe sculptures and a Year 9 student for her ceramic self-portrait.


在佛山霍利斯,涌现出许多才华横溢的小艺术家们。但三位学生在五月艺术之星评奖中凭借他们出色的雕塑作品脱颖而出!七年级的两位学生各自制作出了纸质动物鞋雕塑,九年级的一位学生则凭借陶瓷自画像赢得奖项,让我们一起祝贺这三位同学!


All students demonstrated excellent control of the art medium and excellent ability in the required techniques. The animal shoes sculptures were made from old shoes, which formed the main base of the sculptures. Considering the shape of their shoe, they researched and chose an animal to transform their shoe into, they and then drew design ideas and planned their sculpture. To build the animal they shaped and moulded dry paper and used wire to hold the forms in place. Using papier-mache strips they created a ‘skin’ around the forms and used papier-mache pulp to model fur, eyeballs and claws. The last stage of making was painting. One Y7 student artist chose to paint her fox very realistically, mixing colours and tones and creating texture using line, whereas the other Y7 student artist chose to apply a kaleidoscope of colours to his Chameleon.

The Y9 student artist's ceramic self-portrait demonstrates a very sophisticated control of the clay and an ability to produce a realistic self-portrait. The sculpture is part of her Year 9 Portraiture project. To start, she worked from her self-portrait drawings and had a mirror in front of her so she could regularly observe her face and check she was modelling the clay accurately. She firstly marked out the proportions, lightly drawing into the clay. To make the facial features she modelled the forms and attached them to the base. The inside of the sculpture is hollow, it has to be because solid clay would explode in the kiln. After completing the modelling, the clay was dried out and fired in the kiln. The glaze was then applied and it was fired again, the glaze gives the white glossy surface.

House Competition – Yearbook Cover

学院竞赛 – 年鉴封面设计大赛


This year sees LEH Foshan create it’s very first yearbook; what better way to mark this occasion than to offer our talented school community the opportunity to design the cover?


今年是见证佛山霍利斯第一本年鉴的诞生。学生,教职员工共同参与年鉴封面设计大赛,这无疑是庆祝年鉴诞生的最好方式了。


We received a range of submissions, both from students belonging to all four of our houses, and from staff members.  Entries were collected, and a shortlist of 3 finalists was created.  Students voted for their favourite design from the 3 shortlisted entries:

3rd Place 第三名


大家都非常热情积极参加本次大赛,我们收集了来自四个学院的学生和教职员工的各类参赛作品,最终有三位选手入围决赛。最后,学生们从这三个作品中投票选出了他们最喜欢的封面设计。


There was one clear winner who won over 60% of all votes.


获得第一名的同学的出色设计赢得了超过60%的票数!


All submissions will be featured in the yearbook, and the winning design will of course be our front cover.


所有的参赛作品都将收入年鉴当中,以作纪念。获得第一名的作品则会成为年鉴的封面。


Music – Steinway Concert

音乐 – 施坦威钢琴演奏会精彩回顾


On Sunday 12th June, 15 of our talented young pianists took to the stage at the Steinway Gallery in Guangzhou, an opportunity to perform on a Steinway Concert-D grand piano. This was an enormous privilege to give a concert on one of the world’s finest pianos, and I was incredibly proud with all students. To perform in a stunning venue with a number of world-famous Steinway artists from China, including Lang Lang and Yuja Wang, overlooking proceedings from their photo frames is something I will never forget.


上周日(6月12日),我们才华横溢的15位小钢琴家们在广州施坦威华南旗舰店进行了演出,弹奏着世界上公认最顶级的钢琴之一,我为学生们感到非常骄傲自豪。能带领学生们在这个包括郎朗、王羽佳等许多世界著名的施坦威艺术家表演过的舞台上进行演奏,对我来说也是一件非常难忘的事情。



This has been a wonderful first year at LEH Foshan, and there is never a morning or lunch break without the buzz of piano activity going on in the Music Department. Keep practising everyone… onwards and upwards!


这对佛山霍利斯来说也是意义非凡的一年,课间和午间休息时间,音乐学科的练习室每天都环绕着学生们刻苦练习的美妙琴声,继续努力吧,孩子们!



And big thanks to a Y6 Student who beautifully hosted the concert and worked very hard to announce all the difficult music pieces!

Joint Mandarin–English Speech Contest

中文 – 中英文演讲比赛


On Thursday afternoon of 16th June 2022, the LEHF Assembly Hall is witnessing a large audience watching 28 contestants delivering speeches with cadence in the Joint Mandarin-English Speech Contest with six judges writing scores efficiently on the marksheet.


2022年6月16日(星期四)下午,佛山霍利斯在学校礼堂举办了一场中英文演讲比赛,观众及六位评委共同观看28名参赛选手的表现,比赛非常之精彩!



This is the second time the school holding this kind of contest. It was a poetry recital last year with just a dozen contestants participating in. This year the number has doubled. Early this week the pupils competed fiercely in the qualification trials in which their presentation quality was so high that the teachers had a hard time to make decisions on who to be selected for the final contest. Their attitude of striving to do their best for the places in the final had deeply impressed the staff. They all understand that it is a key part of the student experience at LEHF to develop the public speaking ability.


本次是学校继去年诗歌朗诵会举办的第二场比赛。去年仅有十几名选手参加,而今年大家都非常积极,参赛人数翻了一倍。本周初,学生们在资格初赛中进行了激烈的竞争,大家都表现地非常出色,不相上下,努力想要进入决赛,但很可惜,决赛名额并无多少。值得庆幸的是,学生们深知培养公众演讲能力的重要性。



After two hours of tense demonstration, five contestants for each language have stood out and their prizes will be awarded in the School Assembly on Friday 17th June 2022. 


历经两个小时的比赛,中英双语各有五名选手脱颖而出,学校于2022年6月17日(星期五)的集会进行颁奖,祝贺他们!

Year 6 Lunchtime Poetry Recital

英语 – 6年级午间诗歌朗诵会


As we draw towards the end of the year, it is not just a time to celebrate exam results, work towards those final (and potentially game-changing) house points that can be collected and reflect on the friendships the students have made. It is also a time to celebrate our students’ creativity and their ability to come together as a group to create some wonderful memories.


本学年即将进入尾声,这是一个值得庆祝的时刻。期末考试的结束,相信学生们的辛勤学习有所回报;在最后的这几周,学生们仍积极地为自己的学院获取学分;也许是即将开启暑假,学生们倍感珍惜与朋友之间的友谊。本学年很开心见证学生们茁壮成长,为学校创造出这么多美好的回忆。


The Year 6 Poetry Recital gave parents a chance to see how confident their students had become, how they could explore familiar and unfamiliar emotions and also, to echo the final poem delivered by Joanne Chen, to acknowledge how they have grown and flourished as a team.



6年级的诗歌朗诵会的举办,家长们能够看到他们的孩子如今是变得多么自信,懂得如何探索抒发不同的情感。同时也呼应了我们学生Joanne Chen朗诵的最后一首诗歌主题,学生们作为一个团体,如今已经茁壮成长,不断向前进步。


This teamwork could clearly be seen in efforts of our host students, whose speech introduced the event in both English and Mandarin. It was evident in the groupings the students put together, finding similarities between their poems and choosing to stand up and read their poetry in teams. Their rehearsal teams and the critiques they provided in class helped to build each other’s confidence and, with every burst of enthusiastic clicking on the day, this support for their team was reinforced.


诗歌朗诵会的举办也彰显了学生之间的一种团队精神。有的学生担当起主持人的责任,用中英双语介绍了本次活动。其他学生则分工合作,找出各自诗歌之间的相似之处,以团队的形式进行朗诵。在排练过程和上课期间,学生之间会相互指出需提高改善的问题,不仅有助于建立彼此的自信心,同时也增强了团队凝聚力。



Students’ ability to write poems is never tested in exams and it is for this very reason that we found this a fitting way to end the year, as a well-rounded education is about prioritising more than academics and the Year 6 students embraced the opportunity to show off the 8Cs instead, recognising the importance of our values.


因为考试中并没有考察学生写诗能力这一板块,诗歌朗诵会的举办展示了学生的诗歌才华。其实,综合教育不仅体现在学术方面。6年级的学生作为榜样,主动向我们展示了8Cs核心竞争力的重要性。

6至10年级家长会回顾


Parents were warmly welcomed to the Parent Teacher Consultation meeting which was held on the afternoon of Friday 17th. For many parents and staff, especially those teachers who teach all children in the school, it was a busy afternoon, with appointments made to discuss the progress of students over the year.


本周五的家长会顺利结束,非常感谢所有来参加的家长们。虽然对于家长、教职员工来说是一个忙碌的下午,但能够相约一起,探讨学生这一年来的进步,也算是充实的一天!

Hopefully the consultations between staff and parents gave a flavour of the content of the end of year report, which is currently being written, and will be published on the last day of term.


希望家长会的举办能让大家对孩子这一年的学习情况有所了解,年终报告也在准备中,将于学期末最后一天发放给各位家长。



A huge thanks go to Miss Li for her hard work organising the event, and for the catering and facilities management team for all their help in setting up and ensuring that everything ran to plan.

Dragon Boat Experience

游龙舟体验活动


On the morning of 11 June, Foshan Sanlong Bay International Talents Living Room held the “Experience of Chinese and Foreign Talents in Dragon Boat Race” in Lecong Training Base of Shunde Dragon-boat Club.


6月11日上午,佛山三龙湾国际人才客厅在顺德龙舟俱乐部乐从训练基地举行了” 中外才子游龙舟体验”活动。



Our LEHF teachers actively participated in this event, and they really enjoyed it. Under the guidance of the Dragon Boat team, they started the water adaptation training and were taught how to row a dragon boat. Then a fierce but exciting competition began and reached a climax!


佛山霍利斯的老师积极参与其中,体验划龙舟乐趣。在龙舟队员的指导下,他们开始进行水上适应训练和学习划龙舟技巧龙舟。随后即进行了一场激烈却又激动的比赛,将本次体验活动推向高潮!



This spiritual and cultural event provides a sense of community for our LEHF teachers. Not only do they teach happily and purposefully within our school, but also, they could feel the charm of Lingnan traditional culture in the community.


本次精神文化体育活动有助于整体社区凝聚力的培养。佛山霍利斯的老师校内开心教学,校外感受岭南传统文化魅力!

Summer Concert- 21 June

夏季音乐会 – 6月21日



Our final concert of the year is next Tuesday 21st June: International World Music Day. This will be an opportunity to celebrate the fantastic musical achievements of our students during this past year, with solo and group performances, and plenty of singing.


本学年最后一场夏季音乐会将会在下周二(6月21日)举行,主题是庆祝世界音乐日,同时庆祝学生在过去一年中的辛勤学习,展示他们的音乐学习成果。本次音乐会将包含独奏、小组表演、以及精彩的歌唱演出。


The Music Department has come a long way since the ‘eery silence’ of my first few days on campus last September. There will be music for piano, drum kit, trumpet, trombone, oboe, string instruments, and choir, with the concert ending with Gary Barlow’s Commonwealth Song ‘Sing’ performed by all students from years 6-9.


音乐学科部门的成立,从我去年9月加入佛山霍利斯一开始时的鸦雀无声,到如今每天都萦绕着各种乐器美妙的声音,一路走来可谓非常不易。本次音乐会包含钢琴、架子鼓、小号、长号、双簧管、弦乐器和合唱团的表演,并会以Gary Barlow的英联邦歌曲“Sing”作结尾,所有 6-9 年级的学生都会参与这个合唱。


All students, parents and staff are welcome to attend on Tuesday 21st June, 17.00-18.00 in the Assembly Hall. From 16.30, snacks will be served in the 3F Music Department – everyone is welcome to enjoy!

House Lion Dance Competition – 22 June

学院狮王争霸赛 – 6月22日



This term, all Year 6-10 students participated in the Lion Dance ECA and had a glance into this Foshan traditional cultural heritage. The House Lion Dance Competition will be organised next Wednesday. Each student will have the opportunity to show what they have learned in this term and each house will send two lions to compete for house glory. All parents are more than welcome to join us and enjoy the enthusiasm of Lion Dance!


本学期,6-10年级的所有学生都参与到了佛山传统文化舞狮的课外活动当中。下周三,期待已久的学院狮王争霸赛即将开战!每位学生都将有机会展示本学期所学的舞狮技巧。同时,每个学院也将派出两支狮队(低年级和高年级各一支),为学院荣誉一决高下。欢迎各位家长参与观赛,一睹雄狮少年们的风采!

LEH Foshan Prep School will be open in the next academic year in August 2022 to extend our top-quality British education for younger students of Year 4 - 6 (age 8 - 10) and to prepare them for the full British Curriculum as they progress to key stage 3.
