Since its inception, Harrow Innovation Leadership Academy Zhuhai has attracted a lot of attention from parents, but this British-styled school is still shrouded in secrecy among the local elite parent community.

To answer these questions, Harrow Zhuhai held an its Autumn Education Seminar 2022 at the Intercontinental Hotel Zhuhai last Saturday. The school senior leadership team came face-to-face with over 100 parents to explain Harrow Zhuhai's unique holistic education and bilingual curriculum system.

Dr Max Caruso, Head Master of Harrow Zhuhai, began his speech by stating that true 'learning across the East and West' is rooted in both the long-standing Chinese culture and the 450-year tradition of academic excellence at Harrow School in the UK. 

As an expert in bilingual curriculum, Ms. Elise Li, the Chinese Principal of Harrow Zhuhai, explained in detail the bilingual curriculum system to parents, from the curriculum design based on educational theory to the practical curriculum arrangement, combined with many examples, demonstrating the balanced, complete, diversified teaching content of bilingual education in all aspects.

Ms Kirsty Lowery, Head of Pastoral Care and Boarding, spoke with great enthusiasm about the fundamentals of Harrow as a British boarding school. Ms. Lowery said that what makes a boarding school unique and has been passed on for hundred years is the child-centred approach of the school. She opened parents' minds to a new understanding of boarding school life with videos and pictures of the vibrant Harrow house system and leadership & service programmes.

The school also invited Mr. Zhao, a Friends of Harrow committee member, to speak as a parent representative at the event. Mr. Zhao, whose child has been studying at Harrow Zhuhai for two years, shared his understanding of children’s education, why he has chosen Harrow Zhuhai, and the benefits and good experiences the child has had studying at Harrow Zhuhai from a parent's perspective.

It was also the first time that Harrow Zhuhai Student Bilingual Ambassador participated in a public event. Elizabeth, our bilingual ambassador from Grade 5, shared her school life and learning experience with parents. With her fluent English and confident stage presence, she received a lot of applause and praise from the audiences.

The Harrow Zhuhai Student Bilingual Ambassadors are selected through a highly competitive annual bilingual speech competition, where those delivered good speech in both English and Chinese become the candidate. They not only represent the achievements of bilingual education at Harrow, but also the excellent quality of Harrovians' holistic development.

At the end of the event, Ms. Nikki Street, the Foreign Principle and Ms. Linda Sun, the Chinese Principal of Harrow Little Lions Kindergarten Zhuhai were invited to the stage and gave a brief introduction. Harrow Little Lions Kindergarten Zhuhai is the early year stage of a AISL Harrow K12 education system and adopts the AHEYC curriculum, which has a very positive effect on the development of bilingual mind of a child from a very early stage. 

At the end of the sharing session, parents surrounded the Harrow experts and asked many detailed questions that they care individually. Many parents asked questions directly in English and the school leaders were patient in answering them all. Parents submitted applications for visits to the school. The Head Master also invited the enthusiastic parents to visit the school and see for themselves what a Harrow education is all about.
