Chemistry is an experimental science based on theoretical processes and finds its application in practical attempts in the laboratory. Chemistry can not be taught, learnt or evaluated without practical experiments. The experiment is a didactic method through which trained students have the purpose to carry out a chemical or physical process or phenomenon by introducing some new variables with the purpose to study them.
化学是一门以理论为基础，并通过实际尝试去探索其应用的实验性科学。没有切身的实验，化学就无法被教授、学习和衡量。在实验过程中，学生们怀揣着研究的目的，通过引入一些新变量来进行探索化学或物理的过程或现象。
In this lesson, Grade 10 students were doing some tests for the presence of water in different samples, and explaining why water changes colour.
在本节课中，G10的学生们对不同样品中是否存在水进行了测试，并解释为什么水会出现颜色变化。
1.Learning Objectives
学习目标
1) To test for the presence of water in different samples using anhydrous copper(II) sulphate and dry cobalt(II) chloride paper respectively.
2) To determine the formula of hydrated copper(II) sulphate.
3) To introduce hydration reaction and explain the colour changes.
1）分别用无水硫酸铜和干燥的氯化钴试纸测试不同样品中是否存在水；
2）确定水合硫酸铜的化学式；
3）介绍水合反应并解释其中的颜色变化。
2.Experimental Steps
实验步骤
1) Test with anhydrous copper(II) sulphate.
2)Test with dry cobalt(II) chloride paper.
3)Weigh hydrated copper(II) sulphate, and heat the crystal, and reweigh weigh the crucible with the contents again.
1)用无水硫酸铜进行测试；
2)用干燥的氯化钴试纸进行测试；
3)称量水合硫酸铜，并加热晶体，重新称量坩埚中的含量。
3.Observation
观察结果
Samples containing water turn anhydrous copper(II) sulphate from white to blue, and turn dry cobalt(II) chloride paper from blue to pink.
含水的样品使无水硫酸铜从白色变成蓝色，使干燥的氯化钴试纸从蓝色变成粉红色。
When students conduct chemistry experiments, they will develop an understanding of the material world around them while learning to question what’s happening in their surroundings, which is great for fostering inquiring minds.
当学生进行化学实验时，他们会对周围的物质世界有所了解，同时学会对周围事物保留疑问，这对培养探究的思维很有好处。
