VPA可视化教学｜让家长更身临其境地见证孩子们的成长

学习历程展

不知不觉中，2023年的第一个季度已经结束，VPA的学生们在过去的八周里也完成了他们的单元学习。今天，我们邀请了一年级以及四年级的家长们与老师和孩子们一起见证这八周的学习历程。

VPA通过本次学习历程展让孩子们亲自向家长们展示和解说自己一个学期来的学习历程，实现全方位可视化教学。

可视化教学究竟是什么

“可视化教学”（Visible Learning）自2008年由墨尔本大学教授约翰·哈蒂在其所撰的《Visible Learning: Maximizing impact on learning》中提出后，引起了全球教育界的广泛讨论。

这一教学方式充分体现了教师与学生以及教与学的相辅相成。“可视化”在教学中具有两方面的含义：一是让教师看见学生的“学”，真正了解到学生的需求；二是让学生看见教师的“教”，促使学生逐渐成为自己的教师。

因此，教师在教学过程中，会将自己放在学生的位置上，认真观察、倾听和理解学生，给他们更多思考、提问和表达的空间，与他们共同成长，从而做一个合格的引导者，而不是规训者。

学生也不再只是被动的知识接受者，他们也可以成为“老师”，积极主动去总结反省、互相交流、表达自己，从而成为真正的终身学习者。

在本次学习历程展中，我们将展现的空间完全留给学生，让他们自己向自己的家长，甚至其他同学的家长介绍自己一个单元学习中的各种历程。

值得注意的是，“如何表达自己”也是我们单元学习中的一个重点，这次展览正是一个练习表达自己的好机会。

四年级结合了艺术、写作等形式来探究生态系统。每个人的作品都有强烈的个人特色，我们不会拿来做比较，不会说谁的更好，因为每个孩子的作品都是独一无二的，展现出了他们不同的想法和设计。

老师和校长们也一同参与，互相交流与学习。建立良好的三方关系（学生与教师、教师与家长，以及家长与学生）对于学校、家长，以及每一位孩子都是尤为重要的，将可视化贯彻于教学与家校沟通可以让家长们了解到孩子真实的成长历程，而不仅仅只是一个分数或者一个成果。

孔博士亲自向家长们介绍我们的课程特色，VPA注重培养孩子们的思考能力、写作过程，以及采用TC系统学习英语。

STEAM DAY 学生分享

下午，我们又迎来了STEAM DAY活动，四五年级的学生代表们分享了自己在STEAM学习中的经历、领悟和总结反思。

他们向我们展示了惊人的学习能力、表达能力、总结反思能力以及创造力等多项IB教育中十分重视的关键能力。

演讲的孩子们还会跟观众们互动，向台下的同学们提问，每个孩子都积极参与在其中。

VPA可视化教学的日常

除了这种特别的日子，VPA的校长和老师们在平日也十分重视将教学可视化贯彻在教学与家校沟通中。

教室里贴满了孩子们的照片、作品以及学习重点。

老师们还会在toddle中与家长们共享每周的学习情况以及学生照片。

学校每周也会制作一份精美的双语周报让家长们了解学校的活动和教学。

过程更重要还是结果更重要是一个经常被拿出来辩论的话题。

追求一个所谓好的结果、好的分数、好的学校是很正常的心理。

但是当我们得到一个结果之后，不应停留在展现、比较，甚至批判，回顾过程、总结反思、交流分享才能让孩子真正从中受益，不断提升。

这些都是可视化教学中非常重要的环节。

我们希望给家长们看到的不仅仅只是孩子们最终的分数，而是孩子们成长、学习的过程，让家长和孩子们都能看到他们究竟是如何思考、如何探究、如何考证、如何达到最终的学习成果的。

结果可以让孩子们得到某种东西，可能是某项荣誉或者更好的机会，过程则潜移默化地塑造了他们整个人。

Learning Journey Exhibition

The first quarter of 2023 has ended and our VPA students have completed their units over the past eight weeks. Today, we invited parents of Year 1 and Year 4 to join us and take a look at these eight weeks of learning.

Through this learning journey exhibition, we asked children to present and explain their own learning journey to parents, in order to achieve an all-round visible learning.

What is Visible Learning?

"Visible Learning" was mentioned in 《Visible Learning: Maximizing impact on learning》by John Hattie in 2008, and it has been widely discussed in the field of education.

“The ‘visible’ aspect refers first to making student learning visible to teachers ……, also refers to making teaching visible to the student, such that they learn to become their own teachers.”

Therefore, in the teaching process, teachers will put themselves in the position of students, carefully observe, listen to and understand students, give them more space to think, ask questions and express, and grow together with them, so as to be a qualified guide rather than a disciplinarian.

Students are no longer just passive receivers of knowledge. They can also become "teachers" who actively reflect, communicate and express themselves, thus becoming true lifelong learners.

In this Learning Journey exhibition, we left the space for students to introduce their own experiences in this unit to their parents and even to the parents of other students.

It is worth noting that "How we express ourselves" was also a focus of our unit study, and this exhibition is definitely a good opportunity to practice expressing themselves!

Year 4 combined art, writing and other forms to inquiry ecosystems. Everyone's work has personal charateristics and we don't compare or say who's better because each child's work is unique and it shows their different ideas.

Teachers and principals also participated, communicated and learned from each other. Building a good three-way relationship (student-teacher, teacher-parent, and parent-student) is important for school, parents, and every child. Integrating visible learning into teaching and home-school communication allows parents to see the real growth of their children, not just a score or an outcome.

Dr. Koong introduced our curriculum to parents that VPA focuses on developing children's thinking skills, writing process, and learning English using TC program.

STEAM DAY Sharing

In the afternoon, we had our STEAM DAY, and some students from year 4 and 5 gave us speeches about their STEAM learning journey and their reflections.

They showed us their amazing abilities in learning, expressing, reflecting, creativity and many other key points in IB education.

They also knew how to interact with the audience and ask questions, everyone was actively engaged.

Visible Learning in Daily Life

Besides the special activities, we also pay a good attention to visible learning everyday at school.

Our classrooms are full of pictures, works and learning highlights.

Teachers will also share photos and what we have done at school through toddle with parents.

A bilingual weekly newsletter is also produced every week to keep parents informed of school activities and teaching.

Whether the process is more important or the result is a topic that is often debated.

It is normal to pursue a so-called good result, good grades, and good schools.

However, when we get a result, we should not stay in showing, comparing, or even criticizing. Instead, we should review the process, reflect, communicate and share about it so that children can be truly benefited from it and improve themselves constantly.

And those are important parts in visible learning.

We hope to show parents not only the final grades of their children, but also the process of their children's growth and learning, so that parents and children can see how they think, inquiry, research, and achieve the final results.

The result can provide something for children, it may be an honor or a better opportunity, but the process can subtly shape them as a person.
