Four Treasures of Chinese Study 文房四宝

Hello, ladies and gentleman.I’m Camille, from Class6, Grade5. It’s my honor to be here----giving a speech to you. My topic is ----Four Treasures of Chinese Study.

大家好，我是五（6）班的郭梦涵。很高兴在这里为大家演讲。我演讲的主题是——文房四宝。

In China,calligraphy has long been a very important part of the country's culture.Writing brush,ink stick,paper and ink slab are known as “the four treasures of the Chinese study”.They are all tools for Chinese calligraphy and Chinese painting.

在中国，书法是中国文化的重要组成部分。笔，墨，宣纸和砚台统称为中国的文房四宝。而且，文房四宝还是中国画不可缺少的工具。

Writing Brush: The penpoint of the Chinese writing brush is soft and big.It is usually made of animal hair.When the top of the Chinese writing brush is dipped in the ink,it sops up the ink and is ready to use.The animal hair used is critical to the quality of the Chinese writing brush,but the material for the brush body,usually bamboo,is relatively less important.

毛笔：毛笔的笔头不仅柔顺而且大，它通常是用动物的鬓毛制作而成。当笔毫浸入墨水，它会把墨水吸入，这时就可以用来书写了。动物鬓毛的选择对毛笔的质量有至关重要的影响，但是对于笔身材料的选择，通常使用竹子，因为笔身对毛笔质量影响相对较小。

Ink Stick: Getting ink from the hard ink stick requires some physical labor.The procedure is like this:firstly,the ink stick is rubbed against the ink slab to generate ink powder;secondly,water is added to the ink powder to form the ink.One advantage of doing so is that you can easily adjust the density of the ink by changing the water or ink powder.

墨锭：从坚硬的墨锭里获取墨水需要用一定的体力。首先，用墨锭和砚台进行摩擦，这样能够产生墨粉。然后，加适量的水到墨粉里搅拌，这样就能够形成墨水。这样操作的优点在于，使用者可以通过改变水的多少调节墨水的浓度。

Paper: Paper was invented by Cai Lun in the Chinese Han Dynasty.The most famous paper used for Chinese calligraphy is rice paper.

宣纸：宣纸是由中国汉代的蔡伦发明。米纸，也叫宣纸是中国书法最受欢迎，使用最广泛的纸张。它的名字起源于古代的宣城。

 Ink Slab: Ink slab is the container used in Chinese calligraphy and painting for grinding dry ink (ink stick) and mixing it with water.Most of ink slabs are made of stone,but other materials such as pottery,brick and tile are also widely used.

砚台：砚台是中国书法和绘画使用的容器。它用于研磨墨锭以及把水和墨粉搅拌成墨水。大多数的砚台是用石头做成的，当然也有其他材料可以制作砚台，比如：陶瓷，砖块和瓦片也是使用的很广泛。
