(Anti-Bullying Week)

London SPCC(London Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children)。

同年,London SPCC更名为NSPCC(National SPCC)。

(Anti-Bullying Alliance)

Emma Wang

“Whether it’s in school or at home reach out and show each other the support we need. So, be a buddy, not a bully. ”

Hardy Sun

Odd Socks Day

Anti-Bullying Week should be no stranger tostudents at an internationalized school. It has become an annual fixture inmany international and bilingual schools. During this week, schools organiseanti-bullying activities and education projects to create a more harmonious, inclusive, equal and supportive school environment.

But do you know that Anti-Bullying Week actuallycan be

traced back a hundred years to an Old Harrovian?

The 7th Earl of Shaftesbury(1801-1885)

Harrovian from the class of 1813

1884

the 7th Earl of Shaftesbury founded the Children's Charity——London Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children(London SPCC).

1889

Thanks to the continued efforts of the London SPCC, the first child abuse and protection law in British history was passed by the Parliament. In the same year, the London SPCC was renamed the National SPCC.

1895

Queen Victoria awarded the NSPCC a Royal Charter and became its first Royal Patron.

2002

The NSPCC joined forces with the National Children's Bureau to establish the Anti-Bullying Alliance in the UK.

2012

Since 2012, the Anti-Bullying Coalition has been launching Anti-Bullying Week globally every year, with the aim of raising awareness of bullying of children and young people at school and elsewhere, and of ways to prevent and respond to it.

In keeping with the spirit of Lord Shaftesbury, child safety and protection is a top priority for Harrow Zhuhai, andmaintaining equality and fairness in the school environment is also afundamental requirement for our school.

Therefore, November saw the arrival of

HarrowZhuhai Anti-Bullying Week

as scheduled.

The theme of Anti-Bullying Week 2022 is to 'Reach Out', which aims to empower students and teachers and encourage everyone to take positive action against the harm caused by bullying.

Let's see what Harrow students and teachers

havedone for the Anti-Bullying Week!

Unconditional Respect

The School Assembly Kicks Off Anti-Bullying Week

On Monday morning, the whole school kicked off Anti-Bullying Week in the School Assembly. Dr. Max Caruso, Head Master of Harrow Zhuhai, delivered a speech on the theme of anti-bullying, with a particular emphasis on "unconditional respect", which is the core spirit of anti-bullying.

Emma and Hardy from G3M spoke on the topic of anti-bullying in English and Chinese respectively.

Emma Wang

"It is the duty of every student to promote civilization on campus, which is a clean place to learn about culture and knowledge. It's up to you, up to me, up to everyone, up to now, to fight against bullying in school."

“Whether it’s in school or at home reach out and show each other the support we need. So, be a buddy, not a bully. ”

Hardy Sun

The G7 students performed a short skit presenting a school bullying scenario, which sparked serious thoughts and lively discussions among the audiences.

"What should I do

if I experience bullying at school?"

Building A Comprehensive Understanding of School Bullying

Led by their teachers, Harrow Zhuhai students built awareness of bullying in a variety of ways and in multiple dimensions. There were open discussions around specific scenarios and topics, and fun activities to stretch their minds, deepen their thinking about bullying and inspire kindness and tenderness in the students.

Reading of Concepts

For example, to recognise bullying through words: all the words hidden in the chart below are about bullying or anti-bullying. Students need to find them, pick five, explain to their peers what they mean and how they relate to bullying, and think about why these words are important when confronting or addressing bullying.

Discussion in Groups

The teachers also led groups of students to research different topics to get a different perspective on school bullying, which also helped to build a more systematic thinking.

Poster Production

In addition, students have created posters on the theme of anti-bullying, with beautiful graphics and various colours, so that the awareness of "reaching out" was remembered in a creative way.

A Day Full of Warmth and

Acts of Kindness

Kindness Jars and Unity Tree

Kindness Jars

Kindness Jars have been placed throughout the campus where everyone can write a note expressing their gratitude to a fellow student or teacher, or their own declaration of kindness, and drop it into the bottle. These notes will form a gratitude bulletin board for everyone to review and remember anti-bullying awareness.

Kindness

Harrow Zhuhai Unity Tree

This is a tree 'planted' by Harrow students and teachers, filled with messages of solidarity and unity, saying "no" to bullying.

Kindness

In addition, Harrow Zhuhai had many enriching activities during this week, from the classroom to the dining hall, every detail was thoughtfully designed to make goodwill overflow on campus.

"Respecting and Valuing the

Differences of Each Individual"

 Odd Socks Day

In the interpretation of one of Harrow's core values - fellowship - there is this sentence “We respect each other and value our differences, knowing that we are more effective and more resilient working together.”

We respect and value each other's differences, because we know that together we can only be strong.

To promote respect for individual differences and spread goodwill, everyone from pupils, school staff and even parents will be wearing two different socks on Friday 25 November, the quirkier and more colourful the better!

Each student wearing a different colour of sock will be rewarded with House points and will also be entered into the ‘Odd Sock Award', while staffs will also be entered into the 'Odd Socks Teacher Award'.

The students did everything they could to make their socks even more bizarre than in previous years. Parents were also delighted to join in the fun.

The initiator of the Anti-Bullying Week, Ms Kirsty Lowery, Deputy Head of Harrow Zhuhai, encouraged everyone to seek help when faced with bullying and to be courageous in speaking up for those who experienced it. She stressed that the Harrow has zero tolerance for bullying and will encourage students more on fighting against bullying.

Harrow Zhuhai is a community that

has zero tolerance for bullying. Together,

we will stand against any bullying behaviour.

Be brave and stand up and say no!

Let's take action together

Make bullying disappear from all campuses

Embrace our positive values

Become gentle and caring leaders

and harvest the goodness and beauty of the world!
