During the October of last, the first OCAC Student Council was established with the goal of creating community services for all students to enrich their after-school lives and jointly assist solving students’ issues and difficulties. In terms of activities, we held a Christmas themed free dress, Chinese Ancient Poetry (Conference), and the Chinese New Year Charity Concert last semester. In order to improve the students' campus life, we have also held meetings with the school cafeteria and Sodexo to discuss concerns regarding food quality and safety. In addition to that, this year, we have also help modify and improve dormitory rules and schedules. During this process, although we faced many challenges, we still devoted ourselves to organizing major events, creating community culture, and contributing to campus life.
This year, as we enter twelfth grade, after reflecting on our experiences last year, we have made some changes to the student council system. We have decided it is time to bring new life into the council and begin transferring the responsibilities to the tenth and eleventh grade students. This year, we will conduct a new election for each position . This election process will be done as a collaboration between the current student council and the school leaders.
As members of the student council, we need to keep our mission in mind, to be active and uptake responsibility. The Student council adheres to the goal of creating a more diverse campus culture, solving problems faced by students in their school lives, and enriching campus life. We hope that every member can do their best to contribute to the school community with their own strength. Communication skills, leadership skills, and organizational skills are particularly important. Every member of the student council needs to actively participate and cooperate to face difficulties together. Joining the student council means taking on more responsibility, therefore we hope that the current and future members of the Student Council will continue to work with a serious and diligent attitude. These are the fundamentals of being a member of the Student Council.
This year, from the perspective of serving the student body more efficiently, -, we will implement a brand-new system. Including the president and vice president, this year’s student council will be composed of ten people allocated between four departments: the advertising department, finance department, organization or planning department and a department specifically managing student dorm life. New members will be tenth and eleventh grades. [AZ1]
This year, - under the guidance of our school’s two principals and other teachers, our election will be a rigorous process. This week, an email will be sent to all high school students from the student council’s official email. The email will include specific details on the number of positions available per department, each positions’ jobs and responsibilities , and the specific procedures for applying. The application process mainly consists of two parts: a written self-introduction statement and in-person interviews, conducted by us and the school principals Given that the number of members this year has been reduced compared to last year, the selection process will be stricter. We hope that every student who signs up for the Student Council will take it seriously and show their best.
As leaders of the first student council, we will continue to help and support the new generation of student council members. This year, the Student Council meetings will be held as an independent CCA every Friday. The two principals will act as supervisors and help the Student Council become a more mature organization. The next student council will also have the help of other school teachers and departments, as well as our support as the leaders of the first student council. We will also participate in the Friday meeting and raise questions and suggestions when necessary. Based on this supports and each members’ own potential, we believe that the new Student Council will have significant impacts on OCAC’s High School.
Thus, we announce that the second generation of the OCAC High School Student Council will start recruiting this autumn. All members of the current student council sincerely invite everyone who is willing to make a difference for our community to join us. We believe that in the future months of cooperation, you will find pride in being a member of OCAC.
