谈高年级课程设置


在哈罗,境内的外籍人员随行子女可选择就读哈罗外籍人员子女学校;其他学生可以选择就读哈罗礼德学校。二者享有同等标准师资配备,共同参与院舍活动及研学活动。




礼德学生一到九年级学习中国国家义务教育课程。九年义务教育结束后,礼德学生将进入高中阶段课程学习,进而可以通过学业成绩申请前往国外大学就读的机会。



谈升学规划


IGCSE 选科非常重要,因为对学生接下来的A-Level课程学习,乃至大学专业申请有非常重大的影响,哈罗外籍Y9/G8的学生在第一学期会开始选科,这个过程由他们的导师提供专业的学术支持和个人升学规划咨询。



什么是IGCSE?


IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) 是目前国外14岁至16岁全世界考试最多人数的体系之一,若同学想申请英国名校剑桥,牛津大学等相近英系大学,此考试成绩是申请的重要参考之一。 因中英教育体系的不同,高中的GPA成绩换算,英国无标准,不能准确了解学员的智力和学术能力,所以该考试成绩对于国外大学申请很有必要。



 哈罗海口教师来自于清华、斯坦福、牛津大学等名校,拥有丰富的教学经验。他们不但提供专业的升学辅导,而且具备能力去开展很多与领导力相关的项目,帮助他们冲击理想的世界名校。

Curriculum Provision 

of Upper School


At Harrow Haikou, the children of expatriates in China can apply for Harrow International School (HIS) and Chinese National students can choose Harrow Innovation Leadership Academy (HILA). HIS and HILA share the same standard for teaching staff and their students can participate in the house events and academic research activities together. 



HILA students from G1 to G9 study China’s national compulsory education curriculum. After the nine-year compulsory education, HILA students will study high school courses. After that, they can apply for oversea colleges or universities with their subject scores. 


Planning for Further Study 


The selection of IGCSE subjects is of great importance. It has a very significant impact on students' subsequent A-level study and even on university applications. Y9/G8 students will begin to make their choices early in Term 1. They will be supported by their tutors. 


What is IGCSE?


IGCSE stands for International General Certificate of Secondary Education. It is one of the systems with the largest number of students taking tests who are 14 to 16 years old in the world. If students want to apply to prestigious British colleges or universities, this test score is one of the important references for the application. 



Teachers at Harrow Haikou graduated from prestigious universities such as Tsinghua University, Stanford University and Oxford University and they have rich teaching experience. They can not only provide professional counselling in the college application and major selection but also have the ability to carry out many leadership-related projects to help them enter the world-famous school.

Holistic Education

Surrounded by Harrow’s four core values of Courage, Honour, Humility and Fellowship, Houses aim to develop students holistically by fully supporting them in our best duty of care in Pastoral aspects.  


In a Close Personal Tutoring (CPT) system, teachers are not only monitoring their academic progress, but are constantly aware of their extra-curricular and personal development. 



By offering an effective programme of Tutor time as well as a wide range of House events, CPT allows each student at Harrow Haikou to develop a comprehensive array of skills and talents. For example, STEAM Week inspires students’ creative ability, House Music Challenge for their musical talents, Harrow Ducker and Sports Day for their physical skills and International Week for their multi-cultural vision. 


The aim is to develop the child's personal interests and skills. Students are encouraged to understand themselves and others, face challenges, take academic risks, and prepare for future study and a more globalized world. 





谈双语培养

哈罗中文课程在符合中国国家课程标准的基础上,注入哈罗教学特色(例如节日节气课程)。

融合多元学科,以中华美食跨文化学科为案例,在赏析名家的美食文本后,自制一张中华美食地图。在画美食地图的同时,还需要同学们运用到语文写作、地理、历史、美术和道法等多方面的知识。各学科老师之间会经常彼此沟通,探讨合作的可能性。跨学科及针对性的训练可以让学生锻炼自己综合运用语言的能力。

 

注重品质阅读,选定经典书籍后,老师会带着学生深入阅读,分章节对学生测试,考察书中的客观事实。

 


弘扬传统文化,中秋节庆典,新春舞狮、国旗下的讲话对屈原生平的演绎,中国民俗节庆的体验也是中文学习的契机,传统书法课让学生深度浸润在中华传统文化中。



谈中文拓展课



高年级语文教学团队平均教龄15年,许多老师有教授中高考和国外考试的经验。深知什么形式的学习才是最有效且有益于学生的,在课堂之外,哈罗中文还引入了辩论社、朗诵比赛、创意写作和中国刺绣、金庸作品赏析等多种形式作为中文能力培养的辅助。




寄宿生分享

 


在一次寄宿生农耕体验中,当其他人对着污浊的泥田犹豫时,寄宿生Ronghui已经动作娴熟地跟着老师开始插秧,在稻田抓泥鳅,这一幕让大家都非常印象深刻。每周末的主题活动丰富多彩,和寄宿大家庭中熟悉的老师同学一起,亲切自如的氛围让他很快融入各类活动并积极主动参与。

 


他说:“我最难忘的寄宿回忆是电影之夜,和舍监老师、同学们坐在软沙发上看电影,一起吃爆米花喝汽水,感觉就像和家人呆在一起,享受轻松愉悦的家庭时光,这里就像我的第二个家。”



谈哈罗寄宿生活



寄宿生活分为关怀辅导、学术和活动三部分。除了休息空间,寄宿楼还配备了自习室,游戏室,音乐室,阅读室,休闲区等空间。

 


和其他形式寄宿不同, 寄宿总管Mr Henman用“Family-Styled”来形容寄宿生活,学生在如家庭般温馨的氛围中,享受丰富的寄宿活动,结交不同年龄不同文化背景的朋友,与老师倾诉苦恼,建立起完全互相信任的关系。

 

既能在课后辅导学业,帮助学生平衡活动与学术,也能在生活中关心与支持每个人。

 


丰富的晚间活动安排




除了个人关怀,舍监老师同时也担任学术督导。白天的学习完成后,舍监老师对寄宿生进行课后延时服务,确保他们及时完成作业再开始晚间活动。



晚间活动涵盖体育、经济、计算机、心理学、英语戏剧、音乐、创意等多个领域。在参与活动的过程中,孩子们可以充分施展个人才艺并挖掘全新才能,同时增进与其他寄宿生的交流互动,大大提升他们的社交力,促进健康心态的养成。



主题周末校外活动





周末,5天寄宿生离开学校和家人相聚,7天寄宿的学生将被安排参加周末主题活动,例如农耕、盆栽制作、在湿地保护公园清理浒苔、冬奥会期间模拟滑雪、戏剧排练、端午节包粽子等多种体验和社区服务活动。让孩子们在培养兴趣的同时,学会服务社会,提升个人责任感、培养亲社会的性格及良好的道德素质。

Bilingual Education

Mr. Du has been engaged in Chinese education since he completed his postgraduate studies at Stanford. Starting from his own experience, he shared the gains and experiences that bilingual education has brought to him. 



First of all, in terms of brain development, thinking training, and multicultural vision cultivation, language learning can bring children deeper thinking, teach them to respect culture, and better understand where their "roots" are. From a practical point of view, bilingual education and intercultural communication skills can not only help children enter world-class universities, but also bring more opportunities in their future lives. 



"Ensuring that Chinese children fully understand Chinese culture while receiving English immersion education" is the goal that Harrow's Chinese education is striving to achieve. 


Chinese Education System

 at Upper School

Harrow's Chinese courses are in line with China's national curriculum standards and infused with Harrow's teaching characteristics.


The cultivation of four core competencies: 

Reading of Classic Masterpiece, Training of Writing Skills, Literature Appreciation and Oral Expression. 


Swift to read more


For example, we have previously offered students an interdisciplinary lesson on the topic of Chinese cuisine. After appreciating the famous articles about food, the students were asked to make a map of Chinese food. While drawing the maps, students also need to apply knowledge of Chinese writing, geography, history, art, and other aspects. Teachers of various disciplines in our school will often communicate with each other to explore the possibility of cooperation. Interdisciplinary and targeted training can allow students to exercise their comprehensive ability to use language. 

 

We pay attention to quality reading. After selecting classic books, teachers will lead students to read them deeply and conduct corresponding tests. 



Our school emphasizes the promotion of traditional culture. Traditional cultural activities such as the Mid-Autumn Festival celebration and the Chinese New Year lion dance are also opportunities for Chinese learning. Traditional calligraphy classes allow students to deeply immerse themselves in traditional Chinese culture. 



Chinese Extension Course



The Upper School Chinese teaching team has an average teaching experience of 15 years, and many teachers have experience in tutoring for high school entrance examinations and international standard examinations. Outside of the classroom, the Chinese Department also introduced various events such as debate clubs, recitation competitions, super curriculum courses, creative writing, and Chinese embroidery as support for the cultivation of Chinese ability. 



Share by Our Boarders

 

In a farming activity for boarders, when others hesitated in the mud field, Ronghui, who is one of our boarders, skillfully started planting rice and catching loach in the rice field under the guidance of the teacher. On weekends, the boarding staff often provide such theme activities for boarders, and the enjoyable atmosphere allows him to actively participate in various activities together with his teachers and classmates. 



He said, “My most unforgettable memory in the boarding house was Movie Night. I sat on the sofa with the boarding house tutors and classmates, eating popcorn and drinking soda and discussing the plot of the movie. It feels like a relaxing and enjoyable time with the family. This is like my second home.” 


Harrow Boarding Life



Boarding life is divided into three parts: pastoral care, academic study, and extracurricular activities. In addition to the rest area, the boarding houses are also equipped with study rooms, game rooms, music rooms, reading rooms, leisure areas and other areas. 



Different from other forms of boarding, Mr Henman uses "Family-Styled" to describe boarding life. Students enjoy a variety of boarding activities in a family-like atmosphere, make friends of different ages and cultural backgrounds, talk to teachers about their troubles and build a relationship of mutual trust. 


Boarding staff can help students balance activities and academics after school with academic tutoring and support everyone in their lives. 


Evening Activities 




In addition to personal care, the Boarding Housemaster and Housemistress also serve as academic supervisors. After the daytime study is completed, they provide after-school tutoring services to the boarders to ensure that they complete their homework in time before starting evening activities. 



Evening activities include sports, economics, computer, psychology, English drama, music, creativity, and other fields. In the process of participating in the activities, the children can fully display their personal talents and enhance communication with other boarders, which will greatly enhance their social skills and promote the development of a positive attitude. 


Themed Weekends 





On weekends, 5-day boarders leave school to spend time with their families, while 7-day boarders can participate in themed weekend activities, such as farming, potted plant making, moss cleaning in wetland conservation parks, simulated skiing during the Winter Olympics, drama rehearsal, and making rice dumplings during the Dragon Boat Festival. These various events and community service activities allow children to learn to serve society, enhance their sense of responsibility, and develop a pro-social character and good moral qualities while cultivating their interests.
