2022国际课程体验营



国际课程体验营期间每位同学都体验了六门科学课程。课程的主要目的是让同学们感受到这些学科的魅力,同时也让同学们熟悉任课老师,让老师们也了解同学们的特点。一起来了解下,老师们是如何设计课堂,让同学们感受到学科魅力的吧。

During the orientation camp, each student attended six science courses. These courses mainly aimed to arouse students’ interest in science, and at the same time to familiarize students with their teachers, and teachers with students’ personality traits. Let's read the following reports to see how the teachers planned their class to arouse the students’ interest in science.

心理学

Psychology

在趣味心理课上,Chloe老师先让每位同学用一个词来形容自己的人格,从而引出本节课的主题“性格”。接下来,同学们针对内向和外向两种性格哪种“好”进行了一番讨论,并且观看了一个以“内向”为主题的脱口秀视频,其中包含了很多人们对内向性格的刻板印象。Chloe老师引导大家打破刻板印象,同时挖掘内向性格的优点,并点出内向和外向只是两种不同类型的性格,没有好坏之分。在这之后,同学们初次接触到了五人格模型,了解到除了内外向维度之外,还有其他四种特质(责任性、随和性、开明性、情绪稳定性);同学们通过在这五种维度上给自己打分,从而更加了解自己。最后,同学们对理想伴侣的人格进行了激烈讨论,并总结了本课收获。

In the fun psychology class taught by Ms. Chloe, she first asked each student to describe his or her own character with one word, which served as a lead-in for her topic "Personality". Next, the students had a discussion about which was better --introversion or extroversion, and watched a video of a talk show about introversion, which featured many of people’s stereotyped opinions on introversion. Ms. Chloe advised us to break our stereotypes and explore the advantages of introversion. She also pointed out that introversion and extroversion are but two different types of personality, so it’s hard to say which is good or which is bad. Then, students were exposed to the Five Personality Models for the first time, and learned that, in addition to the extroversion-or-introversion dimension, there are four other traits (responsibility, agreeableness, openness, and emotional stability) . Students learned more about themselves by rating themselves by these five dimensions. Finally, the students had a heated discussion on the personality of the ideal partner and summed up what they had learned in this class.

数学

Math

在趣味数学课上,同学们重新回顾了三个他们熟悉的趣味活动 – 纸艺、简笔涂鸦以及脑筋急转弯。在动手实践中,他们了解了莫比乌斯环、极坐标系、以及幸存者偏差这三个在几何学、代数和统计学中的新概念。同时,他们在课堂讨论中探索了数学学习的重要底层能力 – 问题解决,批判性思考,表达方式转换,以及对科技工具的使用。孔老师希望能通过这节课拉近他们和数学学习的距离。让他们意识到任何抽象的数学知识都已经以一些方式出现在生活中;而学习、交流、思考,是学好这些内容的关键。

In maths class, students reviewed  3 fun activities that they were quite familiar with - origami, doodles, and a brain teaser. While doing hands-on practice, students were introduced to Mobius strips, the polar coordinate system, and the survivorship bias - three concepts in the area of geometry, algebra, and statistics. In heated class discussions, students also explored essetial skills for math learning – problem solving, critical thinking, representation, and the use of tools. Ms. Lingde Kong, the maths teacher, hoped students would understand that math is not just abstract, it is so close to our lives, that all abstract mathmatical concepts have been applied into our daily life, and that continuous learning, communication, and thinking are key to mastering math.

计算机编程

Computer Science

同学们学习使用基础的Tinkercad电路模拟界面来制作基于以电池为电源的LED电路以及如何将Arduino接入LED电路并且通过程序代码使LED闪烁。最后,同学们学习制作自己的灯光秀。这堂课中也融入了基础的电路知识,并培养了同学们在项目过程中解决代码以及电路问题的能力。

Students learned the basics of using the Tinkercad Circuits interface to build a simple battery-powered LED circuit and how to connect an Arduino to the circuit and program it to blink the LEDs. Finally, they learned to make their own LED light show. Students also learned some best practices for building circuits, and how to debug and troubleshoot their circuits and code.

Biology

为什么我们长得像父母?为什么人们头发的颜色不一样?

引导学生带着思考,观看动画视频,讨论DNA的功能。通过具体的例子来帮助同学们更好地理解抽象概念。DNA是一种生物大分子。它具有储存和传递遗传信息的功能。我们50%的DNA来自父亲,另外50%来自母亲,所以我们长得像父母,但又不完全一样。DNA还拥有控制蛋白质合成的密码,进而控制生物的不同性状。我们的头发是黑色的,是因为我们体内能够进行由酶控制的黑色素合成反应,而这种酶的合成是由DNA控制的。酶是一种蛋白质。

带领新生进一步了解DNA双螺旋结构的发现历史。通过小组活动分析核酸序列和搭建DNA双螺旋结构来探索DNA结构的组成部分和特定规则。

Why do we look like our parents? Why do people have different hair colors?

Marie, the biology teacher, guided students to discuss DNA functions by watching animated videos and thinking about them. She also helped students better understand abstract concepts by giving many concrete examples. DNA is a biological macromolecule, which performs the function of storing and transmitting genetic information. We get 50% of DNA from our father and the other 50% from our mother, so we look like our parents but not exactly the same. DNA also has the code to control protein synthesis, which in turn controls different traits of organisms. Our hair is black because our body is able to carry out the synthesis of black pigment controlled by an enzyme, and the synthesis of this enzyme is controlled by DNA. An enzyme is a protein.

She taught new students to further understand the history of discovering the DNA double helix structure.  She analyzed nucleic acid sequences through group activities and built DNA double helix structures to explore the components and specific rules of DNA structure.

物理

Physics

从绳子的简单受力分析出发,带领同学们了解如何用一根绳子来设计一座悬索桥。金老师引导同学们巧妙地利用绳子在承重以及重力的作用下形成的曲线和同等条件下拱桥的曲线呈轴对称,来验证拱桥的稳定性以及设计一座简单的拱桥。最后金老师鼓励同学们用不同的材料尝试自己搭建一座拱桥。同学们在此过程中充分发挥了创造力,造出了很多让人惊叹的结构,并了解了力学在实际生活中的广泛运用。

Beginning her class with the simple weight bearing analysis of a rope, Ms. Lynn Jin, the physics teacher, guided students to understand how to design a suspension bridge with a rope. Cleverly using the curve formed by the rope under the action of bearing weight and gravity and the curve of the arch bridge under the same conditions are axisy-symmetric, she verified the stability of the arch bridge and designed a simple arch bridge. Finally, students tried to build arch bridges by themselves using different materials. In this process, the students created many amazing structures by giving full play to their creativity, and understood how to widely use mechanics in real life.

化学

Chemistry



趣味化学课上,万老师主要介绍了化学发展的历史,并做了相关的化学实验。古希腊人提出了元素学说,即万物皆是由四大元素构成,而古中国也有相应的五行学说。基于元素学说,化学的前身-炼金术,最初目的是将其他金属转化为黄金,诞生了。课上同学们做了和炼金术类似的实验-将铁转化成了铜。最后,通过元素学引出了现代的化学元素理论并观看了一些美丽的化学反应的视频。

In the fun Chemistry class,  Mr. Shawn Wan, the chemistry teacher, mainly introduced the history of the development of chemistry, and made relevant experiments. The ancient Greeks created the theory of the elements, which stated that everything was composed of four elements, and the ancient Chinese also had the corresponding theory of the five elements. Based on the theory of the elements, the precursor of chemistry, alchemy, originally aimed at transforming other metals into gold, was born. In class, the students did an experiment similar to alchemy - turning iron into copper. Finally, Shawn introduced to us the modern theory of chemical elements with the help of elementology and watched some beautiful videos of chemical reactions.
