莱克顿的设计与技术课

本学期十年级学生一直在探索新技术与新兴技术对人类文化和社会产生影响的方式。学生们对如何通过使用可再生能源,回收、减少材料和能源浪费确保生产过程尽可能做到可持续发展有了进一步的了解。课上,我们探究了几个课题如人口流动如何去塑造一个国家,科技园将如何影响当地日常,远程工作和视频会议使公司员工受益什么或受到哪些不利。通过广泛的课题,学生们对技术影响日常生活有了更深的了解,并讨论了可以评估这些影响的方法。他们赋予课堂无穷的活力与能量,在整个课程中都努力学习,做得好!

在IGCSE课程的第二年,十一年级学生开始感受到NEA(非考试评估)的压力,他们即将完成课程作业的研究部分。本学期,学生们花时间完成了所需的材料、设计风格和可持续发展的设计部分,详细采访了自己的客户进行初步设计项目研究。为了准备第二部分的评估,即夏季考试,我们花时间回顾了关于新技术和新兴技术课题,探索作为设计师应该考虑的环境因素,如道德、可持续性、文化,以及设计将影响到的群体。十一年级的学生今年在完成课程作业的方法上操作越来越成熟,为他们的努力鼓掌。

十二年级学生在设计与技术课程拥有良好开端,并真正融入学习状态。他们研究了设计受技术信息影响的不同方式,如人体测量数据;对关键设计概念有了深刻的理解,如形式大于功能/形式服从功能,以用户为中心的设计,以及各种各样的运动设计。学生们考虑安全作业如何影响制造产品,技术发展如何帮助和阻碍生产过程。最近,学生们一直在学习不同的质量控制和保障方法,亲自试验了其中的工具——如使用游标卡尺和通止规。十二学生们做得很好,你们已经开始了将来想要继续前进的道路。

最后,同样重要的是,十三年级的学生正在结束NEA的研究部分,并开始通过各种设计方法来完成产品。学生们一直在发展自身的设计能力,通过不同的透视方法传达想法,包括斜视、等距、单点和两点透视、第三角度正投影等等。学生们在项目中倾注了大量的心血,班上的每个学生都在设计工作上真正成熟起来,巧妙利用在校时间,以最好的能力完成。十三年级学生们,你们也做得很棒,要继续相信自己。

This term, Year 10 have been exploring the ways that new and emerging technologies have had an impact on people, culture, and society. Students have developed their understanding of the how we can ensure that our manufacturing processes are as sustainable as possible through the use of renewable energy sources, recycling, and the reduction of material and energy wastage. As a class, we have also investigated how demographic movement can shape a country, how Science & Technology Parks will affect the local area, how remote working and video conferencing can benefit, and disadvantage, the employees of a company. Through a wide range of topics students have grown their greater understanding of the ways that technology affects our everyday lives and have discussed ways that we can evaluate these impacts. The Year 10 have brought a fantastic energy to the course and have worked diligently throughout - well done Year 10!

In their second year of the IGCSE, the Year 11 are starting to feel the pressure of the NEA (non-examined assessment) as they are nearing the completion of the research segment of their coursework. Students have spent time this term finishing off all of their materials, design style, and sustainability divs and have been creating their own primary research in the form of detailed interviews with their client. In order to prepare for the second part of their assessment, the summer exam, we have spent some time reviewing topics about new and emerging technologies as well as exploring the environmental perspectives that should be considered as designers, including ethics, sustainability, culture, and the people that our designs will affect. The Year 11 are really maturing this year in their approach to work and should be applauded for their effort.

The Year 12 have had a fantastic start to the course and have really hit the ground running. Students have investigated the different ways that our designs can be influenced by technical information, such as anthropometric data, and have developed a strong understanding about key design concepts, such as form over function/form follows function, user centred design, and a wide variety of diverse design movements. Students have also spent time considering how safe working practices might affect how we manufacture products as well as how technological developments can both help and hinder the production processes that we use. More recently, students have been learning about different quality control and assurance methods and have experimented with a few of these themselves - such as using vernier callipers and go/no-go gauges. Well done Year 12, you have started as you mean to go on!

Last, but by no means least, the Year 13 are concluding the research div of their NEA and are beginning to actualise their products through a variety of design communication methods. Students have been developing their ability to convey their ideas through different methods of perspective, including oblique, isometric, one & two point perspective, third angle orthographic projection and many more. Students have poured their hearts into their projects and every student in the class has truly matured in their approach to their work, utilising their time at school wisely to complete this div to the best of their abilities. You are doing great Year 13, just keep believing in yourselves.
