Market Day

Welcome to Market Day!

At NCIC-Immersion, the Fifth graders set up their own Market Day as a reinforcement to the Social Studies class on last Thursday. They showed us what they learned about “Trading” through Handmade Products market.

Grade 5 students demonstrated their learning about trade, supply and demand, and price by participating in Market Day. During Market Day students used play money to buy and sell different products they created with their groups. They made their own products, booth posters and even the trading currencies. We are happy to show you some of the best-sell products.

1

Products

“With insightful views, a precise product positioning can be made as you know what your customers like.”

You can tell this from the products that the fifth graders sold on their booths: glue slime, crystal rocks, paper crafts, etc. The “bosses” have soaked all their efforts in making these products, which made customers unable to take their eyes off them.

2

Posters

“Each good product needs a better voice. ”

The poster is the signboard of each booth, so it is very important to make a poster that can not only show the characteristics of the products, but also attract customers. High saturation background vs. colorful patterns, eye-catching hand writing vs. promotion slogans… with these, students perfectly showed us their understandings and judgments of their products.

3

Trading

“ Actions speak louder than words.”

They learned the law of demand in class so they could quickly find out which products were more popular at the very beginning and how their competitors were selling. According to what they observed, they could decisively adjust their prices and explore more ways of selling.

As the saying goes, "Bargaining is also an art of life." On the Market Day, they also got the opportunities to be the seller and buyers so that they can experience the bargaining art. When their roles changed to customers, how to buy their favorite things with less money became a new challenge. However, it seems that at the end of Market Day, they have all became experienced bosses by knowing how to sell more with a reasonable discount while keeping a certain profit margin.

Service

Pay for the Service

Service is also one of the key considerations point for customer. On the Market day, "Bosses" applied their service philosophy that they learned from classroom and real-life experience.

Never heard of my product?

No worries. I can provide you with detailed introduction and answer all questions that you might have.

Buying too much?

Never mind. Here are some fancy bags for you.

Can’t find anything that you like?

It’s fine. I appreciate that you stopped by.

Sharing

“It was so much fun! My products were popular!”

Students demonstrated their understanding of trade, supply and demand and prices by participating on the market day, putting theory into practice, as well as their real life. Visitors were impressed by the eye-catching name of each booth, the well-made products and good services.

As for fifth graders, they participated the whole process of trading which allowed this remarkable experience to become natural and deep-rooted. By “transforming” the products they made to a pile of play money, they did build up a great sense of accomplishment and pride.

In NCIC- Immersion, students are encouraged to learn and consolidate knowledges and skills from various experiences. In a simulated environment though, they do own a true learning experience.

The journey of exploration continues, see you next time!
