On Saturday morning SAIS was invited by Five Apples to give a presentation about the school to parents interested in Early Years education.

Ms Janet Stainton, our lead Early years member of staff gave the presentation to over 40 parents at the 5 Apples offices in Shekou. With 15 years experience of teaching early Years in China and herself being the mother of 5 boys she understands very clearly the concerns and dreams of parents as they look to choose a school for their children. 

Shenzhen American International School is focused on offering a broad foundation in the 4 key areas of child development: social and emotional, physical, cognitive and language. The temptation to have a child develop rapidly in narrow academic focus leads to too narrow a foundation and is not appropriate for our young people.

Ms Janet emphasised how SAIS offers a safe, inviting, interesting and warm environment to young children which helps them thrive as well-rounded people. SAIS encourages independence, confidence and language skills through theme-based projects based on US Common Core Standards. Although the projects are fun they have a serious side in developing much needed skills and encourage enquiring minds. As the first and leading Project Based Learning (PBL) school in Shenzhen some examples of Projects were presented to the parents. 

The emphasis on project based learning has resulted in SAIS having one of the finest early years programmes in Shenzhen. By the time they are in K3 students are speaking English confidently, reading and writing and able to manipulate numbers with addition and subtraction. As students are so relaxed in their learning, progress can be seen very clearly and we have many testimonials from our happy parents.
