Mid-Autumn Festival is held on the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar with full moon at night. The moon is the brightest and roundest on this day which means family reunion. On this day, people eat a moon-shaped desert, called a Moon Cake.

中秋节，时在农历八月十五，满月当空。中秋之月最圆最亮，象征阖家团圆。这一天，人们喜欢吃一种圆形的点心，像月亮一样, 叫做月饼

All the family members sit together, eat Moon Cakes, and fresh fruits and enjoy the sight of the round and bright moon.

中秋不只是吃月饼

The early form of the Mid-Autumn Festival was derived from the custom of moon worship during the Zhou Dynasty over 3,000 years ago.

中秋节早期源于3000多年前周朝人们朝拜月亮的习俗。

In ancient China, most emperors worshiped the moon annually. Then the custom was accepted by the masses and became more and more popular over time.

在古代中国，大多数皇帝每年都要朝拜月亮。后来这种习俗被大众接受，并随着时间的推移变得越来越流行。

据说，月饼作为一种时令食品最早源于南宋，在明代之后，中秋吃月饼赏月就开始成为民间流传的普遍风俗，流传百年至今。

在民俗中，中秋节的食俗可不只是吃月饼。

中秋吃田螺也是民间的旧俗，清咸丰年间的《顺德县志》记载：“八月望日，尚芋食螺。”民间认为，中秋田螺，可以明目。据载，田螺肉营养丰富，在中秋时节其肉质尤其肥美，是许多人热衷的美食。如今，在广东，中秋食田螺依旧是许多人的一种习惯，寓意丰收。

中秋还有吃芋头的食俗。如清乾隆癸未年的《潮州府志》曰：“中秋玩月，剥芋头食之，谓之剥鬼皮”。将“剥芋头”寓为剥鬼而食，则有辟邪消灾之意。
