今天,VPA举行了MYP发布会,正式地向大家介绍了我们下学期即将开启的中学项目。



孔博士亲自主持,向大家讲述维多利亚小学从1984年开始的历史故事。当讲到自己在上个世纪八十年代的美国当小学老师的经历时,孔校的脸上洋溢出一种难以掩饰的喜悦和自豪。



我们的副校长,李康迪博士,则是为大家介绍了MYP中学项目的课程。初中阶段,我们将延续小学的融合性课程、均衡性双语教学、个性化教学和多样性体验。



孩子们非常喜爱的UOI探究课将会分散成科学、设计和个体与社会(人文课程)等更具体的学科。这一变化将使学生们有机会更深入地探索这些学科领域,并从中获得更具体的知识和技能。



我们今天还迎来了两位VSA优秀毕业生——张国泽(David)和刘恩临(Eliam);David现在是一名香港大学牙医专业的大三学生,Eliam是今年的毕业生,即将前往牛津大学音乐学院。他们分享了他们在IB学习中的体会,展示了他们不同但都十分精彩的筑梦道路。



David从小在西安长大,就读的是当地的公立学校。升初中后,他认为填鸭式的教育方法缺乏灵活性和个性化,因此,他决定追求一种不同的教育体验。于是他报考了IB学校。



在VSA,他发现不仅英语环境非常充足,学习方式也十分丰富且有趣,学生们会通过各种活动进行学习,例如戏剧、演讲和辩论。老师也会鼓励他们自主探究,不断尝试。此外,在科学课程(生物、物理、化学)上,还有很多机会进行实验,让他感受到学习其实可以很有意思



在一次学校组织前往泰国的义工活动中,他意识到世界上许多地方医疗资源匮乏。于是,本来就热爱生物和化学的他,在申请大学时选择报考了香港大学的牙医专业,并在成为一名杰出牙医的道路上不断前行。



David讲到自己刚去VSA的时候,是一个一节课只能听懂一个词的200斤“小胖子”,他不断挑战自己,从一开始的英文只拿两分,到积极和同学们一起准备各种英文口头报告,学习使用学科术语撰写英文研究报告,到最后参加英文辩论和英文母语学生同台交锋,他勇于挑战,不断“倒逼”自己努力适应英文环境,最终蜕变成现在这个英文流利、成绩优异、自信满满的“帅小伙”。在座的家长和学生都不禁感叹David的励志,相信很多对新环境以及各种挫折有畏惧心理的孩子听完他的分享也能越挫越勇!



与David不同的是,Eliam从小就读于维多利亚,相同的是,他也在这里发现了自己热爱的事物。



学校的社团和各种有趣的课程给他提供了充分的探索机会和发挥空间,他在校期间制作了许多音乐视频、编曲制作,并参与了校歌作曲,将摄影和音乐相结合。由此,他意识到了自己对音乐和摄影摄像的热爱,最终顺利被牛津大学音乐学院录取。



他还在现场为我们演奏了一曲,令人震撼!希望他能在自己热爱的道路上继续发光发热!



当问到学习技巧的时候,Eliam特别提到他的任务管理小技巧。对音乐的热爱也给他的学习能力带来了灵感,他尝试在学习中找到节奏,将每个学习任务切成一块一块,就像乐谱中有许多个小节一样。他是一个有超强自控力且善于运用各种学习技巧让学习变得好玩的孩子,他将艺术与学业相融合,真正做到在玩中学、学中玩。



维多利亚和IB教育都致力于培养孩子们的内驱力、自控力、自主探究能力、批判性思维能力等各种受益终身的能力,并最终将他们塑造成拥有IB十大培养目标:

并且我们相信,他们会带着这些好品质走向更广阔的未来。



升学道路是家长们经常焦虑的问题,我们发现家长们总是问:“我应该为我的孩子选择哪条道路?”然而,这个问题是没有标准答案的,因为每个人都有自己独特的道路,世界更是充满了未知和变化,其他人是无法为他们选择的。



IB教育以及维多利亚学校一直在为孩子们做的就是提供多样的机会,让他们尝试不同的事物,教授他们应对未来种种问题的技能,以及培养学习上的好习惯,最终引导他们找到自己真正的热爱。


而那就是他们的道路。

VPA Middle Years Programme

Today, VPA held the MYP launch event, officially introducing to everyone our upcoming middle years programme that will open next semester.


Dr. Koong shared the historical story of Victoria Primary School, which started in 1984. When she spoke about her experience as an elementary school teacher in the United States during the 1980s, a sense of joy and pride appeared on her face.



Our Vice Principal, Dr. Li, then introduced the curriculum of MYP. During the middle school stage, we will continue to emphasize integrated courses, balanced bilingual education, personalized learning, and diverse learning experiences, building upon the foundation established in primary years.


UOI will become science, design, and other humanity courses. This change will provide students with the opportunity to delve deeper into these subject areas and acquire more specific knowledge and skills from them.


Today, we also had the honor of welcoming two outstanding VSA graduates: David and Eliam. David is currently a third-year student in the Dentistry program at the University of Hong Kong, while Eliam is a recent graduate who will be attending the Music School at the University of Oxford. They shared their experiences in IB learning, showcasing their unique and inspiring paths towards achieving their dreams.

David grew up in Xi'an and attended a local public school. When he entered middle school, he realized that the learning method lacked flexibility and personalization. So he decided to pursue IB education and applied for VSA.

At VSA, David discovered that not only was the English environment rich and immersive, but the learning methods were also diverse and enjoyable. Students engaged in various activities. Teachers encouraged independent inquiry and continuous exploration. Additionally, in science courses had many hands-on experiments, allowing him to truly experience the fun and excitement of learning. These immersive and interactive learning experiences have sparked his curiosity and passion for knowledge, making his educational journey even more fulfilling.

During a school-organized volunteer trip to Thailand, David realized the limited medical resources in many parts of the world. This realization further fueled his passion for biology and chemistry. When it came time to apply for college, he made the decision to pursue a degree in dentistry at the University of Hong Kong. Since then, he has been walking the path to becoming an outstanding dentist.


David shared his personal journey at VSA, recounting how he initially struggled with English comprehension as a 200-pound "chubby" student who could only understand one word per class. However, he continuously challenged himself to improve. Starting with a mere two points in English, he actively prepared various oral presentations with his classmates, learned to use disciplinary language in writing research papers, and participated in English debates alongside native speakers. He worked hard to adapt to the English-speaking environment and eventually transformed into the confident and fluent "handsome young man" he is today, achieving outstanding academic results.

Unlike David, Eliam has been studying at Victoria since childhood, but like David, he also discovered his passion here.


The school's clubs and various interesting courses provided him with opportunities for exploration and self-expression. During his time at school, he created music videos, engaged in music composition and production, and actively participated in composing the school anthem, combining his passion for photography with music. Through these experiences, he realized his love for music and photography, which ultimately led to his successful admission to the Oxford University Music School.


He also performed a live show for us, very impressive! We hope that he will continue to shine and excel on the path of his passion.

When asked about his study techniques, Eliam specifically mentioned his task management skills. His passion for music also inspired his approach to learning, as he tried to find rhythm in his studies by breaking down each task into smaller divs, just like the measures in a musical score. He is a highly self-disciplined student who excels in utilizing various learning techniques to make studying enjoyable. He seamlessly integrates art and academics, truly embodying the concept of learning through play and playing through learning.


Both Victoria and IB education are committed to cultivating lifelong skills in children, such as intrinsic motivation, self-control, independent inquiry, and critical thinking. They aim to shape students into individuals who possess the ten IB learner profile attributes. We firmly believe that equipped with these qualities, students will embark on a broader future, embracing greater opportunities and making a positive impact in the world.


The path to further education is a question that often causes anxiety among parents. We often hear them ask, "Which path should I choose for my child?" However, there is no standard answer to this question because each individual has their own unique journey. The world is full of unknowns and changes, and it is not up to others to choose for them.

IB education and Victoria Academies have always been dedicated to providing children with diverse opportunities to try different things, teaching them skills to tackle various challenges in the future, cultivating good learning habits, and ultimately guiding them to discover their true passions.


And that are the paths for them.
