Dear SIS Families,


At SIS, our primary students write everyday for different purposes and for a variety of audiences. As our students continue to discover and form their own ideas about the world around them, we encourage them to put these ideas in writing. Currently, our students are engaged in writing their opinions. During writing workshops, we support students in articulating their ideas, opinions, and beliefs in a structured and organized manner. This exercise encourages critical thinking, analysis, and effective communication skills, all of which are vital for their future success.


Here are some prompts or ideas that we see around the campus:

亲爱的SIS家庭,

在SIS,我们的小学生每天都以不同的目的和读者为导向进行写作。随着他们不断探索并形成对周围世界的看法,我们鼓励他们将这些想法记录下来。目前,我们的学生正在表达自己的观点。在文学写作中,我们支持学生以结构化和有组织的方式表达他们的思想、观点和信念。这种练习促进了批判性思维、分析能力和有效沟通技巧,而这些对于他们未来成功至关重要。

G4 Learns from Local Restaurateurs

四年级学生向当地餐馆学习

Grade 4 hosted a panel discussion with local restaurant owners from Shenzhen. Our guests spoke about their experiences and gave our young entrepreneurs some great advice. Grade 4 was fortunate to be able to learn from the owners of Il Faro, Backerei Thomas, Chef Table No. 51, The One Cafe, Wok-Inn, and Lon Food, who were gracious with their time and expertise. Our Grade 4’s were encouraged to be consistent, persistent and to believe in themselves and their ideas, while offering quality food that appealed to their target market. 


This week, our Grade 4 entrepreneurs also visited HH Bagel, where they learned all about the challenges associated with pricing items and opening a restaurant, the time-consuming nature of perfecting recipes, and the importance of having a signature dish. Our Grade 4’s are preparing to open their own restaurants on February 29th, and we cannot wait to see what they will come up with! We are grateful for all the professional advice we are getting from the community!

Nursery Welcomes the Year of the Dragon!

幼儿园迎来了龙年!

Dragons hold a special place in Chinese culture and are believed to bring good luck and fortune. In Nursery, students worked with a visiting parent and classroom teachers to create their own paper dragons. Afterwards, they all had a lovely time dancing along with their dragons.


Through these events, our youngest Geckos are introduced to: 


  • Cultural Awareness: Students are exposed to different cultures and develop an appreciation for diversity to help broaden their understanding of the world around them.

  • Fine Motor Skill Development: Nursery students refine their fine motor skills, such as hand-eye coordination as they engage in craft activities.

  • Social Interaction: Having parents visit our classes fosters social interaction and collaboration in our SIS community.


在中国文化中,龙被视为能带来好运和财富的特殊存在。在这个特别的时刻,学生们与到访的家长和老师一同动手制作了自己心爱的纸龙。随后,他们欢快地与自己亲手打造的小伙伴共度了美好时光。


通过这些活动,我们最年轻的壁虎们能够认识到以下几点:


  • 文化意识:学生们接触到不同的文化,培养对多样性的欣赏,以帮助他们更好地理解周围世界。

  • 精细运动技能发展:在从事手工活动时,幼儿园学生可以提高他们的精细运动技能,如手眼协调。

Engaging in Inquiry through Field Trips

通过实地考察进行探究

Our primary students continue to extend their inquiry this week by visiting local places around the city. Grade 5's unit on Where we are in Place and Time took them to the Shenzhen Science Museum. Students investigated the different exhibitions to understand more deeply how technology improves our lives and provides solutions to local and global challenges. They rotated through various divs of the museum, guided by a set of ‘Scavenger Hunt’ questions.  The trip included hands-on introductions to geology (rocks and formations), hydrology (water), physics (light and energy) and biology (life).  Students also learnt about China’s technology innovations and their contributions made to the progress of our world. Finally, they enjoyed a lunch picnic by the Shenzhen Bay Park.

本周,我们小学部的学生们继续通过参观城市周边的地方来扩展他们的探究。五年级关于“我们在时间和空间中的位置”的单元带他们去了深圳科学博物馆。学生们在不同的展览中做了很多调查,以更深入地了解技术如何改善我们的生活,并为当地和全球面临的挑战提供解决方案。在一系列“寻宝游戏”问题引导下,他们轮流参观了博物馆各个部分。这次旅行包括对地质学(岩石和地层)、水文学(水)、物理学(光和能量)以及生物学(生命)进行亲身介绍。同时,他们还了解到中国在科技创新方面所做出的贡献以及其对世界进步所起到的作用。最后,他们在深圳湾公园享受了一顿野餐。

Meanwhile, Grade 2 students explored the Nanshan mountain as part of their inquiry on How The World Work. The hike was focused on observing natural landscapes to help them in their investigation about various landforms and their formation.  Many parents joined this field trip. Thank you very much!

同时,二年级学生在南山进行了一次名为“世界如何运转”的探究活动。这次远足的重点是观察自然景观,帮助他们更好地了解各种地貌及其形成过程。许多家长也积极参与了这次实地考察,对此表示非常感谢!

Finally, Kg students spent a day in Evergreen Park to continue with their inquiry for the unit on Sharing the Planet. They are immersed in observing nature to learn more about the interaction of living and non-living organisms and our responsibilities in taking care of nature.

最后,K年级的学生们在青青世界度过了一天,继续进行“共享地球”单元的探究。他们沉浸在观察自然中,更深入地了解了生物和非生物之间的相互作用,并认识到我们对保护自然所承担的责任。


Kg Leads CNY Assemblies in Jingshan

In the month of January, our music and art classes were filled with enriching experiences as students delved into the concepts of being Tuneful, Beatful, and Artful. Their dedication and enthusiasm were evident in our spectacular Chinese New Year Showcase, where they demonstrated their musical talents and artistic expression.


As part of the "Who We Are" unit, our focus was on creating a nurturing and secure environment that fosters strong connections between learners and their community. Students had the opportunity to explore and appreciate music and art from various cultures represented within their class, providing a platform to embrace diversity and broaden their understanding of others.


We were excited to share the culmination of our hard work and collaborative efforts between our music and art classes. The anticipation was high, and we showcased the wonderful connections and creative endeavors that were cultivated through these engaging experiences.

一月份,我们的音乐和艺术课程给学生们带来了丰富多彩的体验。他们深入研究了“调性、节奏和艺术”的概念,展现出自己对音乐天赋和艺术表现力的奉献与热情。这种精神在我们壮观的中国新年展示中得到了充分体现。


作为“我们是谁”单元的一部分,我们致力于创造一个培育和安全的环境,以促进学习者与他们所属社区之间更紧密的联系。学生将有机会探索和欣赏来自不同文化背景的音乐和艺术,这为他们提供了一个拥抱多样性、拓宽对他人理解的平台。

FIP Prek1/2 Art Auction

FIP Prek1/2艺术拍卖

Our PreK1/2FIP class will host an auction event this Friday to celebrate World Wetlands Day. Our young artists have put in a lot of effort and creativity into their paintings, and we are looking forward to showcasing their incredible talent.


The auction will feature a diverse range of paintings, including stunning 3D pieces and beautiful canvas paintings. What makes this collection truly remarkable is that most of the artwork is original, born out of our students' own imagination and reflections on the books they have explored. Additionally, a few paintings have drawn inspiration from renowned French painters, showcasing our students' appreciation for different art styles.


Seats are limited so please scan the QR code below to join. The proceeds from the auction will go towards supporting the Shenzen Mangrove Wetland Conservation Foundation.

我们的PreK1/2FIP班级将于本周五举办一场艺术拍卖活动,以庆祝世界湿地日。我们年轻的艺术家们在他们的绘画中付出了大量努力和创造力,我们非常期待展示他们令人难以置信的才华。


这次拍卖会将展示各种各样精彩纷呈的绘画作品,包括惊人的3D作品和美丽的油画。最引人注目之处是,大多数艺术品都是原创作品,来自学生们自己对所阅读书籍内容进行思考和想象。此外,还有一些绘画作品从法国著名画家那里汲取灵感,并展现了学生们对不同艺术风格的欣赏。

James L (G5) is offering a fun and interactive Cartooning ASA in Trimester 3 for Grade 3-5 students. He has worked hard with Mr. Mathews & Mrs. Leda to plan this and is excited to share his passion with other students.

G1-2 Athletics Opportunity  SGA

If your child is interested in attending a fun morning of athletics at SGA, please scan the QR code for more information. Students will meet with other international schools to have fun running, jumping, and throwing in a track & field style event. SIS will provide transportation for students as well as SIS staff chaperones for the event. Registration deadline is Wednesday, February 21.
