Dear SIS Families,


Over the years, there has been an increase in the use of smart technology device both at home and in school. At SIS, we take care in ensuring a balance in the use of device at school by monitoring their screen time and ensuring breaks during extended use. Additionally, we provide screeners each year and experts provide recommendations to each family. This year, this was provided for students in grades 1, 3 and 5. Thank you for following through on the recommendations.


Additionally, here are some tips we can promote to protect eye health:  

  • Eat well: Eating a healthy diet rich in fruits and vegetables can help protect your child’s vision. Fruits and vegetables have many vitamins and minerals necessary to maintain healthy eyes and vision. 


  • Limit screen time: Increased screen time can make uncorrected vision problems worse. Limiting screen time each day and having your child take frequent breaks when using any type of digital device will help to protect their vision. Taking frequent breaks is also a good habit to have when doing other kinds of near-vision activities, such as reading, writing, or drawing. 

    Opthalmologists suggest the 20-20-20 rule: Look up from the screen every 20 minutes and focus at least 20 feet away for 20 seconds. 


  • Get enough sleep: As we sleep, our bodies heal and recharge. This includes our eyes. Not getting enough sleep can affect how well your child’s eyes heal from everyday eye strain and irritants in the environment—like dry air, allergens, and pollutants. 


  • Spend time outdoors: Many children spend hours each day doing near-vision activities. Just like other muscles in the body, the muscles in the eyes need time to relax. Going outdoors allows their eyes to look at objects in the distance, which gives their eyes a chance to recover from eye strain and fatigue. 


  • Wear sunglasses: Spending time outdoors has many health benefits, but you must also protect your child’s eyes from the sun. Exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays over time can be harmful to the eyes. For the best protection, make sure your child wears sunglasses that have 100% UV protection. 


  • Use protective eyewear: About 90% of eye injuries can be prevented with protective eyewear. If your child is involved in sports or other activities, make sure they wear protective eyewear to avoid serious eye injuries. 


  • Get regular eye exams: When your child gets regular eye exams, their eye doctor can follow their vision at every stage of development. If anything changes, the doctor will be able to treat and manage your child’s vision quickly.

  • 使用护目镜:大约有90%的眼部受伤可以通过佩戴护目镜来预防。如果你的孩子参加体育活动或其他活动,一定要确保他们戴上护目镜,这样可以避免严重的眼部受伤。


  • 定期检查视力:当你的孩子定期检查视力时,眼科医生可以追踪孩子视力发展的每个阶段,一旦有任何变化,医生能够及时治疗和管理孩子的视力。


SIS 35th Anniversary Whole School Art Project

SIS 35周年校庆艺术项目

This week, the SIS Art department launched a collaborative tile installation that will bring together students and staff from nursery to grade 12 in an extraordinary undertaking. The tile mural that will be installed at The Bay campus will showcase our diverse identities, the significance of SIS in our lives, and our unique origins. Each participant will contribute their own tile that will represent their individuality and collective spirit.


This ambitious tile project is a wonderful opportunity for students to express their creativity while fostering a sense of belonging and unity within our school. We look forward to witnessing the talent and imagination of all our students as they contribute to this tile installation. G3's Field trip to Splendid China

三年级到锦绣中华实地考察

Our G3 students visited Splendid China this week. Students got to explore different aspects of the various minority ethnic groups in China and learn about their way of life , customs and how these experiences connect us all. It was a good closing for our Who We Are Unit of Inquiry. 


Students were very excited to also see the different monuments and famous landmarks that they had heard about. Enjoy the photos below.

本周,我们的三年级的学生们参观了“锦绣中华”。学生们探索了中国各个少数民族的不同方面,并深入了解他们的生活方式、习俗以及这些经历如何将我们联系在一起。这是“我们是谁”探究单元的一个很好的结尾。

PreK1 Inquirers Learn about 

Scientific Experiments

Prek1年级探究者们科学实验

To jumpstart our "How the World Works" unit, Prek 1 students participated in a science provocation led by the Moon Labs. Moon Labs is a company dedicated to nurturing young minds through immersive science experiences.


First, the Moon Labs’ representative Ms. Vivian and the teachers initiated a discussion that prompted students to ask questions, such as, 


  • Why does her volcano have more bubbles than mine?

  • Why did the bubbles stop? 

  • Why is my color different from yours?

  • They (vinegar and water) look the same. They look like water so are they not the same?

  • If I have more baking soda, will it give me more volcano?


Ms. Vivian demonstrated the volcano activity using a volcano mold, baking soda, vinegar, and a vibrant array of food colors. Later, our Geckos had their turn to use the materials provided to explore and experiment. Through this sensory exploration, PreK1 students gained new insights and knowledge about scientific processes of experimenting, observing, and asking questions.

为了启动我们的“世界如何运转”单元,Prek 1年级的学生们参加了由月球实验室领导的科学挑战。月球实验室是一家致力于通过沉浸式科学体验培养年轻思想的公司。


首先,月球实验室的代表薇薇安老师和其他老师们发起了一场讨论,鼓励学生们提出问题。例如:

We had a great time sharing in the celebration of  the Galette des Rois (King Cake) led by the French International Programme. We had a wonderful time baking and tasting, with each participating class crowing their own King and Queen.


The overall winning class with their amazing Galette des Rois is 1A!
The second prize goes to 5CBP!
The third prize is awarded to 3C!
