Recently, ChatGPT, a large-scale conversational language model, came into the world splendidly, forming a storm that swept across the globe. Such kind of technology application is the advancement of science and technology undoubtedly. However, it also brings worries and thinking to the educational field. We try hard to cultivate and train our children, which may be weeded out by AI technology overnight. How should education change and respond? 


Mr. Phil, the Primary Principal of ISA Wuhan International School, discussed this topic with parents through recent live streaming and introduced how ISA implements holistic education with providing abundant inquiry-based classes and personlisized learning support to help children adapt to a rapidly changing future. The parents said they were enlightened.

Mr. Phil has more than 30 years of experience in education. As a senior educator, his view was that ChatGPT rapidly entered the application phase and generated a phenomenal performance. We should worry not only it may result in extensive academic plagiarism but also alert that it will replace repetitive jobs. We should review current education to find whether there are systematic deviations from cognition to practice.




教育并不能等同或局限于让学生记住事实层面的知识,教育必须超越知识帮助学生成为有批判性思维的终身学习者。教育工作者要重新思考教学方式、教学内容和教育的初衷。

Education is not equal to or limited in making students memorize practical knowledge. It must surpass knowledge to help students become life-long learners with critical thinking. Educators should rethink the teaching method, content, and the initial intention of education. 


The humanistic aspects are still needed, such as curiosity, innovation ability, humanistic care, personal awareness, and interpersonal communication. These features enable students to adapt and lead the fast-changing future. Mr. Phil explained that undertaking the mission of ISA, we hope to practice holistic education, enable children to dare to explore the world, understand caring for people and reflect, and nurture leading talents and pioneers for the future. ISA Wuhan International School adopts an IB curriculum system, provides a multilingual learning environment, and comprehensive academic research management based on inquiry-based learning. 


Mr. Phil introduced that the students and teachers currently come from nearly 30 countries and regions, forming a multicultural campus environment. It creates an immersive language environment and promotes their abilities to understand and communicate across cultures, which is also one of the goals for IB to develop cosmopolite.

Thematic inquiry learning of IBPYP is implemented deeply in the primary school of ISA. Except for subjects of six major subject groups, the school offers six interdisciplinary thematic inquiry courses per week, which help students promote innovation and exploration while learning knowledge. The school adopts teaching materials from different countries integrated with the IB framework, offers more than 40 co-curriculum, and ensures the course balance and students’ overall development.

Mr. Phil emphasized that the school provides the maximum personalized support for students in all aspects, such as class learning, homework, evaluation system, and family-school communication. According to different students’ first language, some subjects use the differentiated teaching method.
