I am delighted to welcome you to the first-ever ISA Wuhan International School Academic Prizegiving Ceremony of 2023. I would like to highlight and celebrate with you the achievements of our school. 

It is impossible for me to cover all the triumphs of this past academic year. Every student here has made remarkable progress in their studies and extra-curricular activities. They have taken a leading role in making outstanding academic progress and actively participating in a whole host of events. Here is just a small number:

We have successfully passed through our IBDP Authorisation visit with flying colours. We have also been awarded with the CAIE exam centre status, which allows our students to take Cambridge exams externally assessed to measure their progress against other students from around the world. 

We aim to use this to show evidence of the outstanding education your children are receiving at the hands of our experienced teachers. Reading Month was a great success which impacted greatly on literacy thorough the school. 

It also made reading fun with various events held such as classroom door decorations, Book Reviews, Counting the minutes to go around the world, library visit, Pyjama Day- class reading, Character dress-up to name but a few.

This was swiftly followed by our Creative English Writing Month, which resulted in the powerful English Writing Exhibition. 

Our school community had the opportunity to put questions to our Primary students and learn the process of how our students created their works through research, brainstorming, planning, drafting right to the producing the finished product. Our Grade 10 students had initiated the Exhibition season with their MYP Personal Projects.

Looking over the year, it is incredible to recall so many diverse events, almost entirely educationally enriching being held on our expansive campus. 

The list is not exhaustive but some of the highlights include: the Grade 4 End of UOI Summary Events such as the exhibition on Explorers and the Market Fair; Parent Workshops on PYP (General Introduction, What is UOI?, Assessment in UOI, Maths, ManageBac, ISA Wuhan Primary School Overview); Weekly Mindful lessons in every class from Primary up to Secondary; our first ever campus-wide event: the Mid-Autumn Festival & Chinese New Year celebration events; Field trips completed such as the IKEA Mall Howow T-shirt shop, Yuan Boyuan Park, Wuhan Technology Museum, DIY Ceramic Shop among many more;

ISA Primary Sports Day; ISA Children’s Day Celebration- water; Grade 1 Mother’s Day Assembly to Parents; the Primary and Secondary Art Exhibition, the introduction of the English-only school environment, Daily Five classes and Guided Reading; the school production and our first ever KG and MYP graduation ceremonies. 

One chief highlight of the year has to be the ISA Festival held last month. This event brought together the whole campus community and gave our students a unique experience of performing to a thousand people in a packed auditorium, the largest of its type in southern Wuhan.

In short, we have had a highly successful year. None of this could have happened without the support of our school community. 

A successful school is defined by how well the parents and children work with the teachers. I am sure you will all join me in thanking the teachers for all their hard work and the great care they have shown our students.

But, both the teachers and students would agree with me that our parents have been highly effective partners to the school. Through your support of the school in your child’s learning, you have helped us make a significant impact on their educational progress. 

As Founding Parents, you have made the bravest step of all. For, you have joined a school that until the first day of term did not exist. It is that strong belief and courage that is the greatest example of all that can be shown to young people. 

Your conviction will be rewarded a thousandfold by my team and I, who will stop at nothing to give your child the very best education they deserve in return for the faith you placed in us. On behalf of the teachers, therefore, I would like to thank our founding parents.

Having awarded so many prizes to so many deserving young people, I would also like to thank our students. 

We are all proud of you and your achievements. You have been truly great role models to our younger students in Primary. You have deserved to graduate onto the next stage in your educational career. On behalf of all your teachers I thank you all for making our school a truly pure international school of the city of Wuhan.
