Commedia Mask making

本周，DP1 的戏剧学生制作了戏剧面具，这是他们创作喜剧作品的一部分。Commedia dell'arte 是意大利的戏剧传统，也是 IB 研究报告的建议研究领域之一。

This week DP1 theatre students have been working on masks as part of their work on commedia dell'arte.

Commedia dell'arte is a theatre tradition from Italy, and it is one of the suggested areas of study for the IB research presentation.

由于戏剧演员是依靠他们的肢体而不是声音来交流与表现, 所以面具是一种非常有形态的戏剧道具。在过去，戏剧表演是在户外进行的，因此需要有很明显人物特征的装扮展现在舞台上, 而开发这些面具是为了更具体的描绘人物形象, 如眼睛和鼻子等, 具有夸张的面部特征。

It is a very physical form of theatre since actors rely on their bodies to communicate rather than on their voices. In the past, performances took place outdoors and so needed to be physically obvious. The masks were developed so that they depicted characters - with exaggerated facial features such as eyes and nose.

DP1 的学生在戏剧课上学习表演人物和戏剧场景, 为了帮助学生掌握角色的呈现，戏剧老师Nicola决定让他们创作自己的面具。

The DP1 students have been learning about the theatre from and acting out characters and scenes in class. To help them take ownership of the mask work, theatre teacher Nicola decided they should create their masks.

Nicola说:“制作面具是我在巴塞罗那演员空间了解到喜剧艺术时所做的事情”，然而，学生通过亲自动手制作面具, 可以更好的理解角色与记忆深刻。

"Mask making is something I did when I learned about commedia dell'arte at the Actor's Space in Barcelona", says Nicola. However, it is much more memorable for students to be hands on with the work and better understand it.

AIC的驻场艺术家 Mahdi 非常乐意提供帮助，并开设了一个面具制作工作坊，指导学生们用纸和胶水制作面具。

The Artist in Residence, Mahdi was more than happy to help and led a mask-making workshop where students created masks from paper and glue.

学生Eason Liu说“这个活动非常有趣, 因为我们可以创作自己独有的面具。此外，通过实践体会有助于开拓我们对戏剧的创造力。”

"It was enjoyable", said Eason Liu, “because we can make our masks by ourselves. In addition, it helps our creativity and practical understanding of theatre”.
