At LEH Foshan, we are keen to inspire the next generation of scientists and innovators in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) by providing our students with top-quality education along with a wide range of practical opportunities.
The school year 2021-22 saw many exciting progress and achievements of our students in STEM subjects, including Science, Computer Sciences, Design and Technology, and Mathematics. The school is happy to see all our students were bold enough to face and tackle new challenges, and fostered and developed curiosity, creativity, craftmanship, commitment etc, demonstrating the school’s 8C qualities and our school motto – Hope Favours the Bold.
In the following divs of the article, we would like to invite you to review the highlights in each STEM subject.

Everything was finally in place to make the best use of the superb facilities that we have. Since then, amongst other activities, bubbles have been counted (in both Chemistry and Biology); trolleys have sped down ramps; ions identified from the colour of their flames; the solar system mapped out; cells studied; fuels burnt and buzzers buzzed.

Class sizes have increased, and our first set of examination students will have sat for their IGCSE qualifications (and will no doubt be considering which Science A-Levels to study). Next year we aim to offer a broader practical experience and challenge our older students with the increased demands of the Pearson A-Level courses, while still engaging all students in these fantastic subjects.
I have had the great privilege of seeing so many new coders at LEH Foshan. The vast majority of students had very little experience of coding before joining LEHF but throughout this year we have all had the experience of visual and text-based programming languages.
Another big milestone for the Computer Science department was the introduction of the ‘Robotics club’ for juniors and seniors. Our Robotics teams are eager to enter competitions next year to really expand and develop their understanding further. We are continuing to enhance our resources that will allow our students to explore new ways of solving problems and begin to compete against other schools.

I have been most impressed with the enthusiasm of our students, sharing and discussing their code with me and their peers. There has been an amazing transformation in the digital literacy at LEHF which paves the way for a very exciting future!

Design and Technology
As many students have never experienced Design and Technology lessons before I have been incredibly pleased with the enthusiasm shown and how much pupils have enjoyed learning in the subject. Most year groups have followed a very similar curriculum this year, designed to close the gap in both practical and designing skills and it has been lovely to see the development.

As well as the academic lessons, students have enjoyed Design ECAs where they have built and tested solutions to problems set each week and although some designs have been more successful than others, I think that all the students involved have enjoyed the experience. Looking forward to next year, it is my hope that the department can go from strength to strength particularly once the new workshop is fully equipped and students can begin to make more exciting and complex products. I can’t wait to see what they create.
Head of Mathematics &
Computer Science Faculty
It is a great experience to study mathematics at LEH Foshan. The friendly and supportive environment in the department is the thing I always appreciate and enjoy both with students and with staff. The mathematics department emphasises the value of taking things into your own hands – from how you organise your exercise books to using textbooks, notes and online resources to fill the gaps in preparation for the exams and to enhance your learning.

Students have proved and continue to prove to their teachers, their parents, and most importantly to themselves that now they are well prepared and can handle any mathematics presented with an open mind and an excitement to solve the problem faced. I enjoy meeting many of you in my lessons where I have plenty of opportunities to witness your mutual support, intellectual resilience, and a disarming sense of humour. I can’t wait to watch your future progress.
STEM Collaboration
with LEH UK
In conjunction with our sister school LEH UK, our students have used an electron microscope to study the microscopic world, and, as part of the LEH UK Science Fair, have explored the galaxy and beyond with the aid of NASA’s latest telescope.
Either entering a higher-level study of Science and Maths or taking up new subjects like Computer Sciences and Design and Technology, LEH Foshan students have fully participated in each lesson, embraced challenges, learned from mistakes and proven themselves as dynamic young scientists, programmers, engineers, and mathematics, fearless in their outlook. We cannot wait to witness their future progress and accomplishments!
