佛山霍利斯语言学院回顾,沉浸式环境提升英文水平

佛山市霍利斯外籍人员子女学校首次开展语言学院项目并取得重大成功。语言学院是为期一周的强化式英语提升项目,在新学期前一周(2022年8月22-26日)举行,面向部分新入学学生和现有学生,提供精心设计的多学科课程和活动,并以全英文教学,目的是帮助他们更好地过渡到开学后的英式课程学习。

我校的英语教学支持(ELA)老师们也参与了语言学院项目,她们是经验丰富且合资格的语言专家,并将会在新学年继续帮助所有学生完成他们的个人英语学习计划,提升语言水平。





在语言学院,英语语言学习是核心,并围绕不同的学科课程和活动展开。我们很高兴看到学生们积极参与到阅读、写作、艺术、音乐、科学等全英教学的课程,从中建立和拓展个人的词汇库,提高学术英语能力。





语言学院并不只是课堂教学,而是一个完整的沉浸式学习体验,还包括了课外活动和寄宿,让学生们有机会在一个更加轻松和社交的环境中,发挥和锻炼他们所学到的英语知识和技能。


在语言学院,我们也照常开展我们引以为傲的课外活动项目。学生们每天都有两个小时参与学术拓展活动,包括公共演讲、体育运动、设计与技术,以及数学谜语和游戏。其中包括了许多动手实践和团队合作环节,让他们能够认识新朋友,提升沟通和团队协作技能,更加自信地使用英语进行交流。



在宿舍里,我们也鼓励学生们在日常交流和寄宿活动中使用英语,包括运动、游戏之夜(例如有Bingo游戏、你画我猜、桌球和桌上足球比赛)和电影观赏。课程其中一天晚上,舍监老师们也带着他们走出校门,到本地的公园散步。

LEH International School Foshan’s first Language Academy, was a major success. The programme, a week of immersive English learning, took place a week prior to the start of the new school year, from the 22nd to the 26th of August 2022, and provided new and existing students with carefully designed transdisciplinary lessons and activities in English to ensure them a smooth transition to our British Curriculum.

The Language Academy was fully supported by our qualified and well-experienced English Language Acquisition (ELA) specialists who will continue to support all students’ English Language Learning programme in the new school year. 





In the classrooms, English language learning was the focus in various settings, and students’ learning engagements expanded across a board subject spectrum. We were happy to see students enjoyed and fully participated in Reading, Writing, Art, Music and Science lessons delivered in English, meanwhile gradually developing their personal vocabulary and improving their academic English skills.





The Language Academy was more than lessons; it was a full immersion experience with extra-curricular activities (ECA) and boarding where students were given the opportunity to utilise their new language skills in a more relaxing and social environment.


We were proud to introduce our ECA programme to the Language Academy and offered students two-hour’s daily enrichment activities, such as Public Speaking, Sports, Design and Technology, and Puzzles and Games, with many hands-on practices and teamworks. It was a great opportunity for students to foster new friendships with their peers, develop communication and collaboration skills, and become more confident in using English.



Within the boarding house, students were encouraged to converse through the medium of English and engage in a selection of different activities. For example, we had sports, game nights with Bingo, giant Pictionary, pool and fuse ball tournaments and a movie night. And one night they even took an evening stroll to a local park.



Congratulations to all students on completing the Language Academy programme! Students attending the language academy and meeting peers and teachers before the beginning of term was a wonderful experience, especially for those new to the English curriculum. They are aware of what is to come at the beginning of the new academic year now, ready and prepared for the year ahead. We wish them future success in their learning journey at LEH Foshan.
