LEH International School Foshan offers Pre-A Level Programme particularly to students who have not completed the two-year IGCSE programme. It acts as a bridge to the knowledge and skills required help for the 2-year A Level Programme and helps students to lay all important foundations of the academic language and learning practices.

Ms Sara Saavedra is our Head of Academics and Head of Spanish. She has been in the teaching and education industry in the UK and Dubai since she attained UK Qualified Teacher Status at the University of East London in 2013.
Ms Saavedra is a very experienced teacher of Spanish, and her last post was Head of Spanish and IB Coordinator in a well-regarded British international school in Dubai. She has worked in both IB and British curriculum schools and gained profound insights into IB and A Level programmes from which our students will benefit.
The Pre-A Level programme is a one-year course, with intensive English tuition, designed specifically for students aged 15 to 17 years old who wish to study for A levels but who need another year to be ready for the challenges that are ahead of them. The Pre-A Level develops student’s spoken and written English to a standard which will allow them to move on to A level courses and ultimately leads them to future success in university applications.

Q: What are the key objectives of this programme?
A: This is a skills-based programme where learners develop higher-order thinking skills that are essential to continue with their A level studies. It gives students the opportunity to work in a wide range of subjects while their English language improves. It also builds their research, reflection and communication skills.

Q: Do students choose the subjects they wish to study in Pre-A Level Programme?
A: No. The programme is devised for students to maximise their potential and include a wide curriculum where students will be able to learn different subjects that will inform their future career path and selection of subjects for A-level.
English Language Acquisition
English language is the key vehicle students need to access the curriculum in any subject. The programme offers intensive English tuition, designed specifically for students aged 15 to 17 years old and it is taught by English acquisition specialist teachers. The Pre-A level course fuels student’s English language acquisition and develops their academic and conversational English skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing comprehensively.
Q: How do we ensure students reach the language requirements after one year?
A: Their progress is monitored constantly, and the reduced class size allow teachers to give individual attention to students. Teachers provide students with the specific vocabulary they need to access their subjects and they learn how to write and communicate in a scholarly manner.
