Every child is like a ray of light, and the teacher is the one who can lead the students and brighten their future. ISA Liwan now have launchedthe 'Explorer' column. In each issue of this column, we will invite an elite member of ISA Liwan top faculty team to share their educational ideas and life experience, and help you better understand the real ISA Liwan.

In the third edition of 'Explorer', we invite Snober Sohail, the IB Diploma Programme Coordinator of ISA Liwan, who has been associated with the field of education for the past 19 years and is also a member of IBEN – International Baccalaureate Educator Network for the Asia Pacific region. She has worked as an IB Diploma Programme coordinator, pedagogical team leader and university counsellor in leading international schools in Pakistan and now China. She will share with us her personal experience in the field of education and how the concept of "holistic education" advocated by ISA Liwan can help students develop in an all-around way within the framework of IB.

Snober Sohail

IBDP课程协调员

- She is a qualified teacher for Theory of Knowledge, English B, CAS and is also an experienced University Counsellor, and also is an IB examiner for English B and TOK.

- She has also worked as a telephone counsellor with the NSPCC – UK (National Society for the prevention of cruelty to children) one of the largest charities in the world that work against child abuse. 

- She got her Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science from the UK and a Master's degree in Gender and Women study from Pakistan.


- 她是一名资深的知识理论课教师、英语语言B教师、CAS 教师,也是一位经验丰富的大学升学指导;

differences among IB, A Level and AP?

The IB is a high school diploma that teaches critical and independent thought. It’s an internationally recognized alternative to high school programs such as A Level or the Advanced Placement program. 


The IB Diploma programme is a world-renowned qualification for students who seek a broad and challenging curriculum that helps them develop all the skills needed for success at university. And it is different from other curricula because that encourages students to think critically and challenges assumptions.


Here are a few difference between IBDP, A Level and AP.


1.Breadth of study: Unlike A Level where a student must specialize down to three or four subjects, IB students are required to study courses from six different subject groups including Studies in language and literature, Language acquisition, Individuals and societies, Sciences, Mathematics and The arts. The structure of the IB program develops breadth and depth of knowledge and understanding.


2.Experiential Learning: Students pursue their own interests and skills through projects, clubs, community service, sports, and other co-curricular activities.


3.Freedom: IB students are encouraged to make links between everything they learn and to follow their own instincts. Connections can be made between something taught in the science classroom and something that happens out on the soccer field. This connection can then be made into a personal project of study, such as for The Extended Essay. Students are given the freedom to seek out what interests and inspires them.


4.Research Skills: The Extended Essay and the Theory of Knowledge component are two other elements of the IB Diploma. These components require students to develop advanced independent research and organizational skills – crucial for any student wishing to pursue higher learning or success in their future career.

在过去的19年里,我一直从事教育工作,并且曾在超过17个国家工作,这些工作经历帮助我了解了不同的文化。  


今年是我担任IBDP课程协调员的第7年,也是我担任大学升学指导的第10年。我非常理解IB的理念,作为一名合格的IBDP英语B和TOK考官,我有着帮助自己的学生准备这些科目的优势。我在过往工作中一直都与高中学生关系紧密,因此我对IBDP十分严格的育人要求之下学生的需求非常熟悉。我相信学生与老师之间需要相互信任,相互尊重,因此我和我的学生总是保持着非常良好的关系。此外,我对学生们也很有耐心,我相信我们会在爱莎荔湾营造一个令人惊叹和值得学生和家长们都信赖的环境,在这里学生们会感到自己能够被他人倾听,并以一种积极的方式为我们的学校社区做出贡献。

I have been associated with the field of education for the past 19 years and had the experience of working in different countries with more than 17 nationalities that helped me understand different cultures.


It is my 7th year as a Diploma Programme coordinator and 10th year as University Counsellor. I understand the IB philosophy quite well, being a qualified IBDP English B and TOK examiner give me an edge to help students prepare well in these subjects. I have been working very closely with high school students and I am quite familiar with their needs in terms of dealing with the rigor of IB Diploma programme. I believe in mutual respect and trust hence always enjoyed a very healthy bond with my pupils. I am very patient with students, I am sure we will build an amazing and trustworthy environment at ISA Liwan, where students feel heard and contribute to our school community in a positive way.

Being exposed to multiple perspectives, learning to articulate their own opinions, balancing academic work with co-curricular activities, learning through experience, researching and managing their own work – the level of personal growth that IB students achieve is reason enough for choosing this program.


The IB classroom features discussion and two-way communication between teachers and students. Every member of the class is encouraged to speak up and voice their opinions. This style of teaching produces students capable of original thought, who are confident in their perspectives and willing to listen and be informed by others.

There is no prerequisite for IB Diploma programme and we encourage students from any middle year stream to join our IBDP.
