As the first school of ISA International Education Group, ISA Tianhe International School of Guangzhou (ISA Tianhe) is located in the Zhujiang New Town of Guangzhou, providing IB education for students from early years to primary (2-11 years old). The International Baccalaureate (IB) is a curriculum framework available around the world for students from 3-19 years of age. It is taught in state, private, national and international schools spanning 160 countries around the world.

In 2017, ISA Tianhe officially received IBPYP school certification and authorized to offer the PYP of International Baccalaureate.

UK Standards

The UK National Curriculum of England and Wales, released most recently in 2014, is a set of subjects and standards used by British primary and secondary schools keeping consistency in content, subject specific skills and standards reached. It covers what subjects are taught and the standards children should reach in each subject.  

于2014年发布的英国国家课程是英国中小学使用的一系列科目和标准，以保证学生掌握同等水平的知识、相应科目的具体技能以及达到同等的标准。它涵盖了需要教授的科目以及学生在每个科目中应达到的标准。

The IB Framework acts as a guide to an inquiry-approach to learning and developing independence. We also adopt the UK National Curriculum Standards and content to ensure that students have superb academic level, strengthen their systematic English learning and improve their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. The “GIFTED AND TALANTED” proportion of students in GL Test for English and Maths is far superior to that in the UK.

ISA Tianhe offers a rigorous and balanced Early Years curriculum. The EYFS learning outcomes, UK standards and IB Framework are mapped across the academic year to ensure all areas of the teaching and learning is covered, aiming to enable students to learn and develop their own knowledge, concepts, skills and attributes, preparing them for the IB PYP (Primary Years Programme). This framework integrates the characteristics of English language curriculum and traditional Chinese culture. Our programme emphasises the personal, social, emotional, physical, and lingual development of our students. We use UK National Curriculum standards and concepts for lesson planning, whilst the IB framework acts as a guide to inquiry learning and developing independence.

ISA Tianhe Primary Programme fuses the International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme with the UK National Curriculum standards and outcomes. In daily teaching, the school use IB inquiry-based approach to encourage students to be independent thinkers and lifelong learners. Creativity is fostered in all areas of the curriculum, including academic, sporting and artistic disciplines. The UK National Curriculum standards and outcomes ensure students master consistent and standardised level in knowledge and subject specific skills. ISA Tianhe brings together a group of teachers from around the world, who are highly qualified teachers with average teaching experience of more than 10 years. As IB practitioners, they are proficient in inquire-based teaching and possess a high level of intercultural competence. Among them, the international teachers are from the UK, the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and other native English-speaking countries. The Chinese teachers and Associate Teachers are bilingual and selected from the international and national system.

Language is the basis and means of all knowledge learning. It plays a crucial role when students learn about and explore the world. At ISA Tianhe, we provide strong Language Programmes, including English as an Additional Language (EAL), Chinese and Mother Tongue to help students achieve a higher quality education.

Our EAL programme at ISA Tianhe is a holistic one. By ‘holistic’, we mean that our students are not treated as “learning machines” but as young individuals who need to be shown the connections between language and life and also between language and how it should be used within the environment of an International School. Apart from EAL, the school also pays more attention to transdisciplinary subject teaching of English to improve students' ability to master and use the language better.

Teachers of EAL focus on core reading and writing skills, including reading comprehension, writing, grammar, pronunciation, symbol and vocabulary, as well as giving students confidence in speaking. At the same time, teachers will help students finish the subject courses through regular support courses.

ISA Tianhe’s Chinese program uses Chinese textbooks published by the People’s Education Press (PEP), closely following the teaching contents of the local public schools. We provide four compulsory courses and four elective courses for students per week and conducts stratified teaching according to students’ Chinese level. Our non-mother tongue Chinese program, on the other hand, adopts the teaching materials for foreigners to ensure that children of different countries and regions can also experience the fascinating Chinese culture through studying the language.

By engaging in interesting inquiry learning such as animation demonstration, video appreciation, outdoor exploration and calligraphy competition, students are available to learn Chinese in a practical way and feel the Chinese culture with a long history.

In addition to weekly English and Chinese lessons for all the students, those students with a different “Mother Tongue” have several hours of language tuition.

All language is unique with abundant cultures and traditions. ISA Tianhe's Chinese and Mother Tongue Programme aims to help international students from other countries learn their mother tongues.
